    Perhaps this is better for another thread, I'm probably even more confused now...so you don't think Bond films should look good? I'm curious as to what aspects of cinematography are 'Bondian' and what are not.

    I will say this, the overtly modified color of Spectre takes me right out of the film. I liked it when Deakins said cinematography should not take you out of the film; rather, that it should assist telling the story. Certainly for QOS and SP, I feel there are some moments of 'being stylish for the sake of being stylish.' For me, it worked in QOS, but not SP. Skyfall, however, is stylish with a sense of purpose all throughout the film.

    …and I might agree on those being the best looking. While Skyfall is probably the more objectively superior and beautifully shot film, I would still choose QOS cinematography. Why? …because I believe that’s how a modern Bond film SHOULD look. I just works better for Bond in my opinion.

    I can see why not everybody likes Roger Deakins' cinematography on Skyfall that I consider sublime, and possibly the best of the series, but the frantic editing of QOS simply never let me enjoy the efforts by Roberto Schaefer. A total waste of perfectly good film stock.

    The villa and Tosca stand out in my mind as featuring some incredible cinematography. There's some Perla de Los Dunas stuff as well. The bell tower in Sienna...

    (A bit snarky perhaps, but I do think the cinematography of QOS is more flawed than is being made out, and I think the editing gets much of the blame for how difficult to follow some of the sequences are over the camerawork by members here. It's certainly not the worst cinematography of a Bond film though, but these flaws are not completely due to the editing).

    You could say this about every film in the series thus far.

    Indeed. That's why I say it means little that the cinematography of QOS - and arguably any film - gives good stills. A film's cinematography can be pretty, shots composed well, but it can still fall flat when the actual movie is watched. Perhaps something about it takes viewers out of the film for some reason, it doesn't convey the right emotion for the scene/story etc.

    Honestly, Skyfall will always have the best cinematography so far for me, even if we were just basing it off the China sequences alone.
