    Same. I just don't see the improvement over Lynch's that many seem to. From a "telling the story more coherently" point of view, Villeneuve's Dune felt like it had the same beats and scenes, just with more time to breathe since it was a Part One.

    Visually and creatively speaking, I much, much prefer Lynch's Dune. The set, creature, and ship design of the new one in many ways felt obvious to me and what I would expect from a modern Hollywood interpretation, if that makes sense. The 1984 one felt more original, with more soul to me, if only just due to some of the outlandish creatures, effects, and Lynch-isms.

    I suspect the best version of Dune was unfortunately the one that we never got to see, from Jodorowsky. That would have been a true epic in my opinion. It had incredible potential.

    I can see he is a good director his films look cinematic though I find Villeneuve's films incredibly flat at times and one note, The Arrival for example I found incredibly dull and boring, I know Lynch did not like his version of Dune though I find the film visually interesting, compelling and outlandish in a great way.

    Just watched it for the first time last night after seeing the trailer for Part 2 and finding out it's just on Prime here. Very good film. Very atmospheric. (I kind of see @TheBondFan's point that the design is... ...obvious? I like it, but yeah it's not really alien at all)
    There's still a few things I'm not totally sold on, like the hand-to-hand combat and generally the idea of Chalamet turning into a charismatic leader to the Fremen, but that's more of a Part 2 problem.
    Maybe it's because I know the book, but I don't get the "boring" critique I've read from some people. I felt it moved along at a solid clip and there was always something going on..

    Just been looking on Amazon, I am considering purchasing Part One in 4K though it may be better to wait for the boxset. The digital version of Part One is currently £4.99 on Prime I may get that for now.

    Do we know how many Part's Dune is being split up into?

    Interesting, I do have the DVD boxsets of both TV show adaptions may give them a rewatch to refresh my memory of the larger story, i just tend to revisit Lynch's film.

    Warner Bros. Pictures
    Warner Bros. Pictures has delayed multiple films on its schedule with the big one being Legendary Entertainment and Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated sequel “Dune: Part Two”.

    The film, which was to open November 3rd, is now being pushed back to March 15th 2024 due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The film will also play in IMAX on its new date.

    I'm bummed that it's shifting but not terribly surprised. Meanwhile, it seems films releasing only a few weeks later in the year are keeping their release dates for now, so expect more delays.

    A new posting has revealed that Dennis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated sci-fi epic “Dune: Part II” will be the director’s longest film to date.

    Gavin in Cinema points to a screenshot from a Japanese film regulator named The Film Classification and Rating Organization which has reportedly classified the film as having a runtime of 166 minutes (2hr 46min).

    That’s eleven minutes longer than the 155 minute first part and three minutes longer than his previous longest film – “Blade Runner 2049”.

    I honestly don't like the fact they've shortened it. There's so much story left to cover and I don't want them to rush it. If a movie is good I don't mind it lasting three or four hours.

    I won't be surprised to hear the first new project announced is the Edge of Tomorrow sequel/prequel/whatever it ends up being.
