Refreshing to see MR love my second fav film in the series at the moment. If you accept it for trying to be a fun over the top romp, you will have a great time viewing it. If you're in the mood for a cold war spy thriller, look elsewhere and come back to MR when you just want to relax and enter a fantasy

I think Barry's score helps MR. Hamlish's score doesn't distract but it's missing that spark

I think Hamlisch's TSWLM it's rather inspired and energetic, myself.

    SF slightly over LTK.
SP over DAD. And not because SP was all-that-good.

LTK edges out LALD. Both are great Bond films though.

LTK handily over AVTAK. AVTAK is fun and underrated, but LTK is simply superior in most ways.

Agreed. Dalton got a much better send-off than Moore.

LALD over LTK - LTK has a pair of things going for it in particular: Sanchez is magnificent and the tanker chase is the one of the best action sequences in the series, certainly Glen's greatest achievement. That said, LALD knows exactly what it wants to be, and LTK is way less sure. I prefer Rog's Bond here to Tim's take, the film looks amazing (everything from the colors to the costumes), it creates a totally spot-on atmosphere, and I dig Martin's non-Barry score more than Kamen's.

AVTAK over LTK - Along with OP, AVTAK stands above the rest of the 80s output. Beyond the effect of Moore's age on the production, the only grating item for me is the Beach Boys moment. I find AVTAK more tonally consistent than LTK (that decade's big problem), and also more iconic on the whole. Though lacking, the firetruck chase isn't as bad as it is often made out to be. Likewise for Stacey, who's comfortably the best Bond girl in the decade. Though I love Sanchez, Zorin can easily match him as a quality villain. Also the score is among Barry's best work.

LALD and AVTAK for me, although the second one was a close call.

While I do appreciate LTK (and Dalton) more than I did on first seeing the film back in '89, I'm afraid that I can't give it the glowing reappraisal that many fans seem to have done throughout the years.

LALD is just great entertainment to me and I'll always have a soft spot for AVTAK, despite its flaws, as it was my first Bond in the cinema.

First things first: LALD over LTK. No need to reason that decision.

Whens it comes to AVTAK, most of the film is quite good. There are some instances like the Beach Boys song, the warehouse brawl or the jacuzzi dialogue which are hard to witness, but the overall package is entertaining - something which cannot be said about LTK. Now I know this will be considered controversial, but I think that Moore gave a better performance at ~59 in AVTAK than Dalton in LTK. He also had a better (read: capable) cast to interact with. Don't even get me started on Lowell, Zerbe, Soto... *shudders*

    So yeah, AVTAK beats LTK.
