    That is a compelling argument.

I don't know if I'll join everyone in stacking DN up against the rest of the series, but for the record, for what it's worth, I significantly prefer DN to FRWL.

Even though I rate FRWL objectively higher I completely agree with you.

DN is better. Some might realize...

Title Track: DN - The Bond theme. Say no more. I used to quite like All Time High but it's grown rather bland over the years. Coolidge an extremely underwhelming choice as well.

Title Credits: OP -The octopus motif a bit more interesting than the dots but both far from my favourite.

Main Villain: DN - OP has two fabulous villains but neither of them can quite top the good Dr.

Main Bond Girl: OP - A nice mature girl for an ageing Rog and her moral ambiguity is far more interesting than Honey's bog standard damsel in distress. Lest we forget it's she who saves the day by turning on her partners in crime and shooting the lock off the bomb.

Henchman: OP - Gobinda has some great moments and although I enjoy Dent he hardly does any proper henching in the sense of being a man mountain.

Overall Plot: OP - Corking stuff. A Cold War cracker.

Dialogue: OP - Dinner with the Dr is good but there's so much to live in OP - the auction, the backgammon, dinner with Kamal, in the train with Orlov.

Score: OP - Barry v Monty no contest despite strong efforts from the Bond theme and Jump Up Jamaica.

Settings: OP - Great combo of the grit of East Germany and exoticism of India. Everything you want from Bond locations.

Action: OP - Absolutely top notch. Exceptional work from Messrs Fornoff, Grace, Worth and Lombard.

Humour: OP - Rog at his absolute peak.

Cinematography: Tie - DN does give a great flavour of Jamaica but OP hits back with some nice India stuff and great work by the 2nd unit.

Benign Bizarre: OP - Metal hands, tarantulas and dragon tanks v yoyo saws, clowns climbing the Berlin Wall, knife throwing twins, octopi, tigers and leeches.

Suspense: OP - From Bond crossing into East Berlin it just keeps cranking up and up until Octopussy blows the lock off and you can hear a pin drop with 10 secs to go.

Minor Characters: OP - Fanning is a bit of fun and I do have a soft spot for Vijay. It's rare you have a sense of loss when the sacrificial lamb gets killed but Armritraj is so engaging in the role it really is quite dusturbing.

Glamour: OP - Personal mini jets, Faberge eggs, backgammon, sumptuous hotels and palaces.

Bond Performance: DN - Spectacularly good as Rog is at nailing the cinematic Bond, Sean still wins it for portraying Fleming's Bond so accurately.

    DN: 3
    OP: 13
    Tie: 1

Thought it would be closer but OP is fabulous way to spend 2 hours.

@Soundofthesinners I'm not sure what your plans are, but I hope that we run through the entire catalogue with each film, even though there will be more repeat matches with each consecutive round. Sometimes our feelings change in context, or just over time. Buy the time we get back around to SP, may feelings may have changed.

I actually intend to switch back and forth, and do Skyfall next, and then From Russia With Love. But by that point, we should be on to Bond 25, and it will be time to run that game. After that, who knows where the game shall take us?

As much as I'd like to vote in this, it's like asking which of my two children I love more.
    Dr.No or Octopussy...Octobenny can't do that.

Octopussy is good though some of the corny jokes go against it, a few moments removed really would make it a very good Bond film.

I agree. OP was always one of my second tier favorites being unique and often overlooked. But, having just watched it recently, the movie is totally undermined by those lame moments and there are many unfortunately. It has not aged well.

The serious moments in the film work for me, Sir Roger and Maud are great together. OP has arguably got more worst jokes in the series than any film, then I remember DAD exists. ;))

Title Track: OP (unabashed lover of the balads in the 70s/80s - love ATH)
Title Credits: DN (Binder's work gets a little tired here. I enjoy OP's titles, but DNs are far more groundbreaking)
Main Villain: OP (Khan is one of the three most underrated villains IMO)
Main Bond Girl: OP (Really nice turn on the Bond girl formula, Maud nails it)
Henchman: OP (Gobinda has a bit of an Oddjob rehash to him, but he has some humorous bits and Kabir Bedi plays well off Louis Jourdan)
Overall Plot: OP (For as ridiculous as OP can be in areas, the plot is actually quite reasonable as far as Bond plots go for the time)
Dialogue: OP (Some of Moore's greatest one liners)
Score: OP (Barry is consistently great his late tenure Bonds from OP to TLD are all great)
Settings: DN (India is used nicely in some areas, but I think they could have gotten more out of the locale)
    Action: OP (Easily)
Humour: OP (Some of Moore's finest, even though it stretches the limit at a couple points)
    Cinematography: DN (Slightly)
Benign Bizarre: OP (By a fair margin)
Suspense: OP (The bomb disarming takes down to the very last possible moment!)
Minor Characters: Tie (Quarrel is the best of the bunch, but OP has deeper set of minor characters. Too close to call)
Glamour: OP (More consistently glamorous, where DN's glamour mostly takes place in the first 20 minutes of the film)
Bond Performance: OP (Rog at his height, even if he is starting to age by this time)

    DN: 3
    OP: 13
    Tie: 1

DN & OP are almost back to back in my rankings, but by the formula OP nails it to a T.

I agree, OP is probably the most suspensefull Bond film which is bizarre when you think of all the campy stuff in the film. You have already mentioned the race against the clock but there are also the great post title sequence, Bond sneaking around in the Monsson Place, the assault of the Indian assassins and Bond's revenge on Grischka. The dark colours and Barry's excellent score support that feeling....
