Skyfall is one of the least entertaining films in the series for me. I probably find DAD more entertaining, as it takes the awfulness to previously unknown depths. So bad it's good kind of thing. Ultimately I just find Skyfall a bit dull. As someone said above the plot is basically about a weirdo stalker bothering an old woman.

And? The story of Casino Royale is basically about Bond playing cards.

Exactly. You can sum up the synopsis of literally any film this way.

There's a 3 hour movie about a guy named Lawrence wandering around the desert.

No, the story is about Bond being fucked over by the only woman he truly loved.

Silva stalks M. Bond stalks Severine. It should be called Stalker, if the title wasn t already taken.

As for Bond playing cards, it is more entertaining than him playing solitaire. Not talking about LALD here.

Likewise you could easily say Skyfall is about Bond finally confronting his own personal demons.

Ah, Stalker. That's a proper movie. One of my favourites.

SF has some really outstanding moments, and it looks amazing, but basically I agree with you. There are about 20 other Bonds I find more enjoyable.

SkyFall gives M far too much screen time.

I'd classify myself as a senior @patb and @bondjames, being 53, and much prefer QoS over the turgid SF, plus I know many people the same age who felt the same way as me. So no, it's not an age thing.

I'm two years older than you, kid! But I agree.

And that's the key. It's all a subjective thing, a matter of taste.

Personally, I enjoyed SF (for the same reason I love TB) in part because it is a little slower-paced...it's like sipping a fine wine. No need to down it. Just sit back and savor it. But that's me.

Skyfall is a more complete film, but over time and repeated viewing, I agree QoS climbs and SF falls...

If QoS had a better ending than the whole hotel sequence and fixed the part where Green is introduced... the dock scene is basically explaining the whole movie through two conversations instead of showing us these bits being discovered by Bond as the story develops... I think it could be a great movie. Even with hyper editing and the unnecessary dual revenge plots and Fields.

Good lord, it's not tequila...but then, tequila fits nicely with QoS.

I think SF is a better made and more even movie but QoS just has something that can keep my engagement. I suppose QoS feels like a concept movie that explores interesting things but doesn't quite execute it fully and clearly.

QoS is actually the one Bond movie that I find improves with every viewing. When I first saw it, the editing threw me, but the more you see it the more you appreciate it.
Skyfall, I came away quite underwhelmed, and that opinion hasn't changed, after seeing it many times.

I enjoyed "QUANTUM OF SOLACE" very much, despite the rushed pacing in the film's first half. I despise "SKYFALL" for its major plot holes and sexism.

While Sexism was a part of Bond in the past, they certainly set the "new" Bond up differently in CR and QOS.
The sexism in Skyfall is glaring and one of the many things why this era is so uneven.
It almost feels like a totally different character in SF compared to CR or QOS.

Well to be fair, CR and QOS take place in 2006 with Skyfall taking place in 2012. We can certainly change over time. I'm not the same person I was 6 years ago. Our tastes in things change over time too.

I rate Skyfall higher of the two, in overall quality.

Skyfall has super slick production values. The pacing is pleasant, James Bond and the characters are somewhat complex, but never convoluted, and I love the bits of humor sprinkled through out the story. The cinematography is wonderful. It has one of the most intriguing finales in the series. Also, the main theme tune by Adele is resoundingly spectacular!

It's not really a reason for me disliking SF, but the women are all depicted as pretty useless. M is depicted as an incompetent, arrogant old woman. Moneypenny is an incompetent, young woman. And Severine is a former child prostitute who is used as a shooting target.

What I actually dislike is how everyone at MI6 is really bad at their job - M, Q, Moneypenny, even Bond. It just doesn't sit well with me. It suggests an organisation that is amateurish and stupid. That's fine in John Le Carre but this is Bond.

@Getafix, not only is that true about Severine, but she's a former child prostitute who Bond goes out of his way to have sex with before her inevitable torture and demise.

Non of this bothers me. But yes the incompetance of MI6 isn't great......M is a fool in SF.

I've argued about the entirety of MI6's incompetence in SF quite a few times. Always bothers me.

Agreed. Tanner comes across as weak too. Q also allows the 'hack to occur'.

They haven't been competent since Robert Brown to be fair.
