    You never know, she could have planted the seed - the germ of the idea could right now be growing in the minds of the studio, the producers, Debbie McWilliams etc.

    The main thing is that Pascal was an ally of Barbara Broccoli's, most recently concerning SPECTRE's budget (not a spoiler in terms of the storyline).

    Since this will most likely be the last Sony produced Bond film, it's of little concern. Their deal expires after Spectre and I feel that either MGM/EON will go solo on the next one, or another distributor will be brought in.

    No sympathy here. Most of us workaday folks would have been out the door without
    notice or a severance package. It doesn't take a genius--but then again maybe it does--to know you don't use company computers to send private messages, especially those that are derogatory. I wouldn't worry too much about her, I doubt you'll see her in the unemployment line.

    Good riddance is what I say. Anyone who starts spouting drivel about a black man should be playing James Bond, and thinking her opinion carries any weight, should be fired.

    Before all this, I was under the impression that she was thought of quite positively by Bond fans?

    Quite so and to be fair whatever came to light re the leaking of emails after Sony was Broken into is nobody's business but the people who are involved in those emails
    Let us not forget that Amy Pascal has proved over her time at Sony to be a great friend and a firm supporter of both MGW &BB and the Bond Films
    Many people including myself wish her well.

    Ludo you are right about Elba being too old and to be fair what some might Regard as being Crass is probably just being realistic Bond is a Business after all

    It's inevitable that they're going to start considering actors, you never know what's going to happen. Something may happen that means either Craig can't or won't return after SPECTRE - contract or no. Hiring actors in major roles is a long business that involves looking at a wide variety of actors. According to MGW, they initially looked at 200 actors to potentially play Bond in Casino Royale. Am I surprised that they're, however hypothetically, thinking about other actors? No. Daniel Craig may even be putting his penny's worth in on who he thinks may be a good potential Bond.

    You only have to read this thread to see that it's a popular talking point (over 1.1k comments)

    Do we even know the context of the e-mail that she mentioned Idris Elba?

    I understand they are starting considering actors, Craig is not getting any younger. Still, when SPECTRE has not even been released, I find it a bit crass to already say she has the one candidate to replace him. I understand she thought Elba would be fine when Craig's contract finishes. At which time Elba would be too old. Something Amy Pascal should understand.

    1. The likelihood of Bond 25 not becoming a Sony Pictures film increased even further with this development.
    2. Amy stepping down doesn't affect Idris Elba's chances of becoming the next Bond at all. (His chances were 0% before, and are 0% now...)

    We don't know the context at all. The Daily Beast wrote about the email. It only quoted the one line. She was corresponding with a former Sony executive who has her own producing deal at the studio. The Daily Beast didn't explain why the subject came up, whether this was a passing reference or if the entire email concerned possible future Bond actors.

    This is what I thought, until we know the context of the email (which I'm sure we never will), we can't say whether the e-mails were "crass" or whether the subject were out of line.

    The comments could have been tongue in cheek, could have been referencing fan speculation, could have been in response to another e-mail that we don't know about - it's all would have, could have, should have - without context, we can't really comment.

    Interesting that Pascal is being forced out.

    What about that a'hole Scott Rudin. He was the one who made most of the derogatory statements about everyone in the hacked emails but he seems to have survived (which I'm really not surprised about - I was waiting to see if they'd blame it on Pascal only).

    Hollywood has some interesting standards it seems.

    Maybe I am too harsh with her, but I always thought talking about the next Bond when SP is not even released yet and Craig still on contract for Bond 25 is crass. So was idris Elba's attitude about the whole hypothesis of his candidacy, until he acknowledged that Craig was a great Bond.
