I wonder if Purity got called off or delayed a year or two when Craig decided to do Bond.

As @jake24 points out, 2019 could be the earliest B25 comes out, meaning filming would start in December '18/January '19. Craig signed for Purity in summer 2016. Which doesn't explain why in the last 13 months since Craig joined Purity absolutely no development happened on that project.

    Directors worthy
Duncan Jones (Moon, Warcraft, Source Code)
    Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty)
    Paul Greengrass (Bourne franchise)
    Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond)

Paul Greengrass would never agree to directing a Bond film. Have you heard his Bourne audio commentaries?

No can't say that I have. Enlighten me?

Infact I just read an article there “Speaking personally as a filmmaker I think encoded in Bond are a series of values about Britain, about the world, about masculinity, about power, about the empire that I don't share,”

Well clear paul Greengrass is a Corbyn voting, socialist left nut.

Possibly. Let's wait till early august, though.

I think it goes without saying the Fleming novel adaptations have made the best films. Other than TMWTGG the films stay true to the words and concepts Fleming created. No Surprise that TMWTGG faced it's criticism at the time.

With the arguable exception of Goldeneye in Modern Bond terms, most stories have lacked real imagination, been over zealous and far fetched (invisible cars, Blofeld being Bonds brorther) or carried large plot holes.

The simple truth is you can not polish a turd. If you do not start with a solid written piece and a cast iron screen play then you don't have much of a chance of delivering a top film. This re-writing scripts during filming just leads to mass story holes and contradictions. I appreciate what Mendes tried to do on Skyfall and Spectre, however they were self indulgent. I find it entirely shocking that during production and even in to filming they decided to add further input from Jez Butterworth. Filming should not commence until you have a solid story and the dialog and balance is right. Martin Campbell is fortunate enough to have experienced both worlds, adapting Fleming and working with a Non Fleming script so it can be done. It is imperative EON stave off any Studio time pressure to rush to Production until the above is ready in order to get a solid film.

Yes, in general. And part of this is because the films were set in the era they needed to be: the Cold War.

I thought CR did a masterful job of resetting the story in a post 9/11 environment.

There is always talk of where Bond should go...I contend that placing Bond in the late 50s/early 60s and leaving him there is the way to go after DC leaves. Imagine Nolan directing Hardy in a Bond film set ca. 1958, with the cars, the music, the London of that period? yeah, I am salivating over those prospects.

I maintain this is the worst idea possible and I'm 99.9% convinced EON would never entertain it. Kiss goodbye to Bond if this ever happens. He's a man of the moment, that's his appeal. I don't get what's so hard to grasp about that.

Because the era is still commercially viable. No, this would not kiss Bond goodbye at all.

Man from UNCLE and Bridge of Spies both showed how fascinating that time period is/was. Movie audiences would embrace a reboot with Bond in his old haunts...and as a result he comes more timeless. It won't happen. But it should.

'Man From UNCLE' made $109 million World Wide. Those numbers for Bond would be the end of franchise within 2 films.

Heard from a friend that an announcement is due the beginning of August for Craig's return and the distributor.

The oracle has spoken. Maybe you can find 100 links to the same story you can spam entertain us with?
No story. I have a friend who has confirmed this. This is what happens when you build relationships instead of always looking for a fight on a internet.

Just don't scan for excuses when the first week or so of August passes with no news.
    That won't happen.

Unfortunately though you know as much as the rest of us.

Those are incredible numbers, though, if they're aiming for a $5 budget!

When's the last time we got an update on 'Purity' anyway? I knew a majority of it was supposed to shoot this year, but it's almost August, and a Google search returns articles from 2016, nothing terribly recent.

The most recent mention of 'Purity' was from a Variety article from May 2017:

"Curiously enough, Lazenby isn’t the first James Bond actor that Greenbaum has directed. That honor belongs to the series’ current star Daniel Craig.

“I’ve been very fortunate to work with Daniel Craig twice,” says Greenbaum. “He was in my first commercial about a year or two ago. And then this year I directed with him in a charity commercial sponsored by Omaze and Aston Martin.”

While shooting the most recent commercial, Greenbaum couldn’t resist mentioning “Becoming Bond” to Daniel Craig. “Between takes I saddled up to him and said, ‘By the way, I’m working on this other film about George Lazenby.’ And to my shock, he already knew about the film!”

It seems that a gaffer on Craig’s new Showtime series “Purity” had also worked on “Becoming Bond” and shared some info about the documentary with him.

“When I got over my surprise, I asked Daniel if he’d ever met George before. And he said, ‘I’ve never met him, but I like him.’ And that didn’t surprise me at all, having been around Daniel.”

@Red_Snow, many thanks, was having a hard time finding something from this year about it. Curious why they've been pretty mum regarding production and there still doesn't seem to be any updates.

The only other mention I've seen was on a resume that passed through our office from a writer's room PA on the show. They listed their start date as June 2016 - Present.

    No, June 2016.

The Variety article indicates filming is/has taken place. I can't think of any other reason why an actor and gaffer would be around each other, unless they are personal friends.

I wish Daniel Craig would come out and say something...he is the common denominator in all these mysterious issues.

They all seem to be concerning and revolving around him.

He won't be able to avoid it as he does the Logan Lucky press rounds. We'll know by then most likely.

It is impossible that a single day of filming on Purity has been made since they don't have any actors to film. Isn't it odd that we have zero confirmation of any one apart from Craig appearing in Purity? There aren't even any articles anywhere on the internet about rumoured actors for Purity. I can understand false information about certain actors being attached, but how can you explain the absolute lack of any news/evidence/proof/rumours?

Purity is a Scott Rudin creation (he of the Sony leaks infamy). If it's Sony again for one more film with Craig, I can imagine he would put Purity on hold for it. They can always go back to Purity later as he's pretty tight with Craig from what I recall seeing somewhere. The delay could be because they were all waiting on locking down the distribution deal, which in turn would impact when pre-production on B25 would begin (which presumably would take up a bit of Craig's time).

This, and we must not forget that Babs will be promoting Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool later this year.

Which in itself would be an embarrassing state of affairs for EON, but as I already said, I don't think he has even been asked.

From Grace Randolph the creator and host of Beyond The Trailer on YouTube:

Yes, I do find it odd that not one single candid, BTS photo of 'Purity' has dropped online yet. I don't think filming has commenced, but who knows.

If it had commenced then there would at least be press leaks about the actors involved, but so far only 1 actor is revealed or even cast ...bizarre stuff !!

When will that start? Having said that? Unless their is something official announced before then? It's highly unlikely DC is going to say anything?

Even if he's technically got nothing to add, people will ask regardless and he'll have to come up with some response that could be rather telling in the scheme of things.

It's released in the US on August 18th so just under a month away. He may of course try to act coy if nothing is announced, but we can always infer based on what he says (or does not say). I think he should know what he wants to do by now and the only question is whether distribution has been finalized with him in the picture or not.

Remember, it doesn't matter which way round they are, I don't think Craig will be interested in filming Purity and Bond back to back either way. If he is shooting Bond in early 2019, that means pushing back Purity until 2020 at the earliest .

Agreed. If a Bond film is tiring him out that much, then there's no way he's doing another one (especially since he's a few years older now) AND a television show at the same time.
