    Dang! First one since 1989 to not release October/November, first to release in a year ending with 0, AND first with an American director?!?! This is wild!

    Who was it that mentioned Fukunaga on the "Bond 25 (and Beyond) directors you consider" thread (or was it a different one)? Looks like you'll get your wish come true!

    Love his work on True Detective. He co-wrote the screenplay for It (2017), too - so maybe he'll do some writing on the script as well?

    Well, those that were saying this film wouldn't make it's original release date were right and thanks to the likes of Deadpool and Black Panther studios are realising February release dates (which used to be a dumping ground) can be profitable.

    Not particularly as it's the same window Deadpool and Black Panther used. With a tentpole like this, dating only matters in terms of the competition, the old notion of a 'blockbuster season' is obsolete.

    And yes, global same day release is only way they could make that date work tbh.

    So you can take this with a pinch of salt - but Sony has a production centre at Pinewood where people like myself (content producers - for brands and agencies) can get their hands on new camera tech and do training etc...He was there apparently a few days ago with a large group of people touring one of the stages. One of the reps had seen him with some recognisable production faces. Sony's Digital Motion Picture Centre (DMPCE) is located in the main props building.

    Excellent news! Filming starts 4 days before my birthday. Seems like a nice, early birthday treat.

    Now, do we still feel it’s certain Craig will be playing Bond? Or will the next announcement be that he has stepped down & they’ve appointed a successor?

    Alright! Looks like we’re moving forward. While Fukunaga isn’t a household name, he does seem to have a decent resume both in the directing and writing department. I’ve been looking forward to Maniac too. I’m on board with this choice.

    Personally, I'm glad they made the right call and avoided household directors. They often end up directing their own films rather than directing films assigned to them, which I'd hate for future Bond films to happen.

    No way Craig is out. They would have mentioned it with this news. I’d be very surprised if Craig backs out. Of course, by all means, this one should be his last. And I say that as a big fan of him.

    From what I read he is writer/ Director/ Cinematographer as well which is going to be a big advantage on their part.

    He's actually an extremely progressive choice. He is considered a real rising star, you only have to look at photos of the guy and he always looks immaculately presented. This kind of eye/attention for detail in even minor aspects, I feel is a really good indicator of someone who is pretty much an auteur. Especially given his background along with credits beyond being just a director such as a writer, producer and cinematographer. This situation has for me personally gone from one of real sadness to elation. In relation to the date shift, it seems a really sensible decision. Big studios always want everything yesterday and it's great that some breathing space has been created to ensure everyone can bring their A-game. And like all the best things in life, I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

    Some on Twitter have been concerned about the fact that it's still P&W on script duties - I would be surprised if Fukunaga doesn't give it his own (credit earning) rewrite.

    DoP though, he could to it himself but a wise choice would be to reunite with Adam Arkapaw...

    Agree, it's one of the most memorable sequences I've seen on TV in quite a while.

    I mentioned Fukunaga! He's very talented, plus he's also a good writer. So he'll probably do the polish work on P&W screenplay, without hiring another screenwriter.

    Yeah. Competition wise it is, like with the original 2019 (US) date, one week after a to be announced 'WB Event Film' which many are currently speculating to be a DC one - either Suicide Squad 2 or Birds of Prey. Now that Bond have now stuck their ground first, we'll see how others who are yet to announce dates will react.

    EDIT: It's actually opening right against that WB film. So wise choice for WB would be to move that...

    He really is. True Detective had a drop in quality when he left - which was mentioned in several reviews of the second season. He kept the executive producer title, of course. Fukunaga is an interesting and sensible choice, IMO. Really looking forward to see what he can bring to Bond.

    Not as excited as I was for Danny Boyle. Let's hope he can compete with Mission Impossible.

    Just heard about the director being chosen on the radio. Surprising choice. Don't know him, but heard some good things about True Detective.
