I don’t see Strong as Blofeld, other than a parody, and I’ve no real interest in SPECTRE as a recurring villain. The two things make me cringe, in fact. We already moved on and when we went back it was royally ballsed up.

Happy to see a fleeting glimpse/mention in future, but they can’t drop the ball again.

The idea of standalone films with intriguing one-off villains is where I’m at.

Couldn't agree more. If SPECTRE is to inevitably return in some capacity, save it for the next era.

And that next era is pretty much here, with this being Craig's almost certainly last film.
With Blofeld and Spectre as omnipresent, you potentially get the best of both worlds.ie Bond vs Blofeld & Spectre as desired or standalone villains as tentacles of Spectre (Spectre Octopus motif) with Spectre only in the background
I would cast the new Bond in the Craig continuity but with the Craig-Bond past only obliquely referenced, and only then if desired. This would be a soft-reboot.
Anyway this is getting way ahead. The much more intriguing matter at hand is what final adventure lies in store for Craig's final turn.
I am wide open to the possibilities.

Why would a return of SPECTRE and Blofeld kill the franchise? Bad CGI and a lousy Madonna cameo didn't kill the franchise.

Bond in space didn't kill the franchise and neither did Bond in a clown suit or Blofeld in drag.

This franchise is perfectly resilient. And audiences can take it; some even crave it. One really great trailer is enough to get people excited, with or without Blofeld.

For SPECTRE to make a comeback, they will have to outline a whole arc (doesn't mean the films have to have a tight continuity) and plan the storylines well a la MCU. Otherwise, they shouldn't just bother.

The main issue is that the general audience don’t give two s**** about SPECTRE. Actively employing them serves no real purpose other than to piss off the hardcore fanbase if it’s mishandled. So when you say, ‘as desired’ I can only feel that applies to a very, very small minority.

It’s no real surprise to me that GF is still the default ‘Best Bond Ever’ for general audiences, or perhaps CR or SF for a younger generation. Despite SP’s efforts those newer entries and the latter are all viewed as self contained pieces.

Rumour: French film journalist claims Jodie Foster could be cast in 'key role'

    A female Blofeld then? :)

    Just kidding.

We'll see... Though I guess many are lured to a project involving Danny Boyle and Craig's Bondian swan song.

Oh definitely no. I like Jodie okay, but I don't want her in a Bond film. My instincts are just really NO.

Joe and Tilda - both make me feel UGH. I don't think I'd enjoy them in a Bond film, no. I especially don't think Jodie would fit. Anyway, we shall see.

Probably lost in translation - if I had to guess.

The francophone author/film journalist posted his tweet insinuating that he merely heard of this rumour (i.e. not an exclusive piece of info).

A quick search and I found an article posted prior to his tweet which features the same photo as he posted. The article talks about Strong's likely involvement re Bond25 AND features a rumour regarding Foster's casting in some TV show. This article quotes 'The hashtag show' as a source of Foster's story and it mentions nada concerning Bond 25.

No idea why this rumour is spreading so fast.

No, it's true. I'm sure many here would be very happy with Strong playing the main villain, but in more sophisticated spheres of society him being cast as the main villain would be seen as an incredibly lazy and uninspired choice.

I don’t agree with you often, and there are not many actors I hate, but I absolutely despise Mark strong.

Me too. A new Blofeld and a new Irma Bunt? Just to keep continuity, they'll bring back Jeffery Wright as Felix Leiter and Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx for one big finale! Fingers crossed for this!

Jodie Foster is certainly a more appealing name than some of the others, and I have wanted Mark Strong in a Bond film for some time he is a very good actor.

The Jodie Foster rumour is to be taken with a large pinch of salt. However if it came to be that she was cast, I'd be very happy. Brilliant actress.
Far better suited to a Bond film than the likes of HBC or Tilda Swinton. Jolie would be an horrendous choice imo.
