  • Hi, don't want to open a can off worms over recent Bon wardrobe on here again but I just found this picture and thought wow and it really does point out how great Dan looks in suits Taylored rather than TF off the rack. But then I noticed, there is that hand in the pocket thing again!

Maybe he just likes playing pocket billiards?

Hopefully the negative reaction from the menswear community last time will result in suits that fit this time.
I really hope that Everest reprises his role as Fiennes tailor, had some beautiful pieces in Skyfall.

@doghouse is correct. Those awful Tom Ford suits should be abandoned and 007 sent to 'The Row' for a fitting.
IVNSHO (in Villieurs53's not so humble opinion) Craig, when suited, succeeded in looking like Pee-Wee Herman in SF. His pants look fit to split at any moment and those ill cut jackets would have been more appropriate adorning an estate agent.
Fiennes on the other hand looked splendid and going forward I'm quite sure that the new 'M' will want 007 to be correctly dressed and will dispatch him to Saville Row without further ado.
The question is to which tailor? They all have quite different house styles but considering Craig's stocky, muscular physique, Villieurs53 wouldn't hesitate to recommend the fabulous Anderson & Sheppard.
Over the years, A&S have catered to the rich and famous but more importantly to gentleman of great distinction and style. Fred Astaire was a stalwart and Bryan Ferry is a regular.
Their single breasted would be perfect for Craig, the way the jacket drapes gives a good height impression, is slimming whilst giving him great freedom of movement. In terms of detail they should be classic, two button, twin vented with two exterior straight flapped pockets.
His trousers should be either flat fronted or single pleated, have 15" bottoms, no cuffs and side fasteners (no belt loops) and his suit cloths should be 15mil or lighter.
Shirts could be from either Turnbull & Asser or Emma Willis and should feature a medium spread collar and single cuffs (double cuffs and links get in the way during fights) his shoes should be bespoke by John Lobb with re-enforced steel toe caps.
His ties should only be knitted silk from Charvet.
With regard to his overcoat, Villieurs53 thinks Bond should favour a dark pea coat in cashmere for versatility and as a nod to 007's naval background.
In terms of his casual wardrobe, Belstaff and Barbour should continue to be a good source of field jackets with Sunspel providing the best polo shirts. Trousers should be either chinos from Dunhill or cords from A&S depending on the climate. Jeans should be kept to a minimum but were appropriate Duhill will suffice.
Sweaters should come uniquely from A&S haberdashery. They have a great choice and Audie Charles will see him right.
Accessories should be kept to an absolute minimum. Bond is a spy not a dandy and he should ditch that crass, ostentatious Omega watch in favour of a plain stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual. Sunglasses are only acceptable when driving, skiing or in hot climates and should be from Persol.
Villieurs53 thinks this covers everything — any questions?

No questions from me. Great synopsis from somebody who really understands how Bond should dress.
Villieurs53 has it nailed albeit I think Oliver Peoples could be a better port of call for his shades.

@SirHilaryBray Thank you for that information, I'll definitely keep my eyes open especially on Zara. Hopefully I'll be able to find something identical!

Zara does have something almost identical. It's a shame it's not all black though...

    Great video Harris. :)

    Thanks Marcos!

  • Harris - Great video and nice to see the younger fans dressing so well.
You are so right about those 'crepe' soles. They are way too thick and quite ugly. Your Crokett & Jones alternative is just perfect.
As for the trousers - another good choice. You clearly have good taste and it's not always necessary to spend a fortune.
One small but important point. Bond doesn't wear "pants" he wears "trousers".
Pants are what Pussy Galore gets to see when 007 starts the action!

You could use Machine Dylon with the salt already added, I used it to turn my light brown Skyfall All Saints iggy chords from light brown to screen accurate bitter chocolate.

Try SuitSupply if you want to dress as well as Bond (they tailor IN-house for a very low fee) but not look like you're trying too hard. Zara is just another high street wannabe that uses sub-par fabrics.

I second this. Not only is Zara's quality suspect, but they try far too hard to be fashion forward with overly aggressive cuts and ornate details. By the time a year passes after you purchase, the items will already be dated.

@SirHilaryBray Will that dye work on denim? It says on Zara that jacket is part denim. Like the sleeves & the back.

    Precisely.

Fashion is temporary and fad-based. It is not smth a guy who wants to dress well need concern himself with (unless he has a genuine interest in it to start with, of course). STYLE is timeless & permanent and has nothing to do with the trends that Zara or any other highstreet retailer desperately try to follow.
Style is about arranging the cut, the lines, colors and fabrics so that they follow patterns that are pleasing to the eye and flatter the male physique. It's harder to get right than one may think.

    I couldn't agree more with Acehole's summation.
Fashion never - style forever: that should be the Bond mantra.
Looking through this thread, there are clearly two schools of thought:
We have those that think Bond should dress like a fashion forward numpty and they love those Tom Ford crutch splitters.
We have those with taste that prefer Bond to dress with more class.
Put me firmly in the second group. I think the fact that we are still saluting Connery's early look after all these years is a solid testimony to classic style.

Yes, I have dyed jeans from denim blue to black using dylon machine dye. The only thing it wont work on is synthetics.

I don't mind Zara suits as they fit well. Of course the material is sub standard though, it's a cheap £150 suit! For real quality you have to go to a tailer and pay circa £1k plus.

Nice watch but really, Bond should only ever wear a 1953 Rolex Oyster Perpetual!

Then I suggest you find solace in the novels because cinematic Bond has been wearing Omega for the past 20 years and that partnership isn't going to change any time soon. I'm just glad the Omegas Bond has been wearing are classy, beautiful and tasteful pieces and to be perfectly honest although Rolex will always be king Omega's line of dive watches are superior and have a much better movement.

    Quoting from that article:

"In Casino Royale, we introduced the Planet Ocean, which was a little bit due to Craig’s influence, because he didn’t want to have the same watch as the other James Bond — which we, of course, were 100 percent okay with. So they listen to us, but which watch is worn is not really our decision. There are usually three parties involved on their end. Daniel Craig is, I repeat, a watch connoisseur, so he has his opinion, a very strong opinion. Then there is the director of the film, Sam Mendes this time, who is not as detail-oriented as Daniel Craig might be, but he has the big picture in mind of what sort of watch he would like. He’s not going to say he wants a Seamaster instead of a Speedmaster, but in terms of the color and overall look, he has his ideas. And then, of course, there’s the owner of the Bond license, Barbara Broccoli, who has a say as well. She wants Craig to be happy and she wants Sam to be happy, so she’s pretty cool about it. And of course, I want them all to be happy. So that’s the name of the game."

That's funny. Apparently, he didn't want the Seamaster because the other guy wore that.

But he wore it anyway from Montenegro onwards. Craig is a well known WIS and the planet ocean is a superior watch on all accounts over the smp 300; which is why it's appeared in all of Craig's released Bond movies. The entire seamaster line of watches are all superb but whereas Brosnan only wore and popularised the smp 300, Craig is more in touch and conscious of the wrist watch his Bond is wearing. The Aqua Terra 8400 he wore in SF was created from his own request and specifications which has now ultimately evolved with the new master coaxial technology to tge 8500 which he'll be wearing for the early section of SP before switching over to the glorious SM300 master coaxial on a nato strap.

True, I'm sure the Omega CEO was being tongue in cheek, but I just felt it was an amusing comment from him.
