They've just started airing the fourth season of Grantchester over here now, and even though he's only had limited screen time with the two episodes that has been aired, Tom Brittney (who I think we've discussed briefly before) has caught my eye. He has a bit of that Henry Cavill kind of look, and he's the right age.

Aidan Turner will be another Jason Isaacs if they don't choose him at some point, @JeremyBondon and @barryt007. I agree on both being superb choices.

Yes wish Isaacs had taken over in 95.

I'm afraid I don't think Turner has the look. Take away the stubble and he's rather ordinary looking.

I'd put money on it not being Turner. I think also they will go much younger next time. Probably go full origin story.

Turner isn’t very old and he’d be the first Bond that’s actually younger than me. I’m for a bit of a younger Bond and Turner would be perfect. I mean...

Where was Jason Isaacs when they cast Brosnan as Bond?

He looked like this in 95, so yeah, pretty much a Bond type.

Bond needs a cruel mouth. All of the Bonds had it, just like the Bond from the novels. Hardy has a baby puffy mouth. Also, really bad hair. And no, wigs are not a thing anymore. He's too short and too bulky. And if you watch Layer Cake, you instantly think that the blonde fella with the killer eyes is Bond and not Hardy. Not that he's a bad actor, no, not at all, I think he commits himself to a role religiously, although I find him overrated on the thespian matter of things. Only Locke showed me he wasn't a one note brute. But I'm tired of the brute Bond. I really want a savvy intelligent suave and also dangerous Bond. So no Hardy for me, I'm afraid.

But this is just an opinion on a thread full of opinions ;) So don't shoot me, @Risico007.

    Great story.

I too like Isaacs a lot. He's been a round a long time, and you don't continue acting, in supporting rles like that, unless you're really good.

Isaacs showed a little off his Bond capabilities on the U.S. series "Dig."

The problem is he usually plays an American and has to loose that lovely accent and deeper voice. Dig, The OA,..., he's been a presence in many tv series, and has aced those roles every single time. Still wish he had been Bond. Although I'm also a Brosnan fan.

Reminds me a lot of Gerard Butler.

Ashamed to say I've seen a fair bit of Corrie and Eastenders over the years thanks to my wife and I've never thought of him as Bond before, but y'know what he could actually be good.

Not sure how viable it is though because how many soap stars ever manage to break into other TV work, let alone films. Tamwar from Eastenders getting the lead in Yesterday is a recent notable exception but most of them who leave seem to end up just fading into irrelevancy or coming back when they can't get any other work outside of panto. So yeah, not a bad choice but he definitely won't be on EON's radar imo.

@barryt007 - great minds think alike! As for the accent - he doesn't need to lose it. After all, it's not like having a Scottish accent hurt Connery as Bond is it? :)>-

As far as I know he can drop the Scottish accent,in Corrie don’t forget ,he was sent to Scotland as a young boy so he plays it very strongly.
    I like him .
He has all the credentials including being over 6’ tall and the perfect age in a year or two.
Also he plays a lawyer so you won’t see him in any fights atm.
He should definitely be a candidate big time.
    Great actor.
He isn’t on Twitter but has a fan page on FB ,I don’t have Instagram so I wouldn’t know.
I sent his fan page a question they are passing on to him re dropping the Scottish accent for a neutral English one .

I genuinely wouldn't mind him keeping his Scottish accent to be fair. Connery seemed to give up on attempting an English accent after his first couple, so there's prescedant, and since Bond is meant to have gone to school there, I think it's actually a lot more justifiable than Lazenby's Aussie accent or Brosnan's weird transatlantic one.

This reminds me, any of you ever seen the James Brolin screentest? We came very close to having a Bond with an American accent. Now that is a scary thought.

Sums up my problem with Turner too. He wouldn't be a bad choice of some didn't tout him as the second coming of Dalton Christ and over hyping him as if he MUST be the next Bond. All that fanboying from Turner fans seems to be attempting to drum up hype for him, but it has the opposite effect for me. The more they cheer for him, the less I want him to get the role. Mention him once, fine. But constantly badgering on like he's Dalton 2.0 just makes me role my eyes.

I'm 100% for Cavill for the next Bond but I don't bump the thread demanding he must be the next Bond actor or overhype him. I'll share some fan art every now and then but that's it. I throw my hat in the ring and be done with it.

I wouldn’t describe myself as a Turner fanboy. I tend to prefer him over many of the others people put forth for the next Bond. I don’t see him as the second coming of Dalton; there’s only one Dalton. I still prefer Fassbender over Turner as well though I worry about his age a little. I’d be fine with Cavill I think.

One could say the same about Cavil (or possibly Hiddleston) being the second coming of Brosnan christ. ;)

Personally, i'm still backing Scott Adkins. So no Turner fanboy here. And I agree with @Thunderball, there is only one T-Dalts. Too powerful to be replicated.

Craig - second coming of Connery, as would've been Jason Isaacs back in the day.
Turner - second coming of Dalton, (or would Isaacs have been?)
Hiddleston - second coming of Moore (or Brosnan, or both)
Cavil - second coming of Brosnan (same?)
Hemsworth - second coming of Lazenby

eh eh, I guess we all like what we like.

Personally, I stopped being a fanboy the day I saw Pierce Brosnan singing Abba. Oh wait, or was it way back with Zardoz? Dalton didn't look that good in green pantyhose either. And Moore, well, the guy was flawless, wasn't he? I'm a Dalton fan and I don't think Turner is his second coming. Guy's not even Welsh. Nor does he have a theatrical background. But I do think he'd make a great Bond. But fanboy I am not. Not even of Craig, like many members here are ;) To tell you the truth, I actually miss being a fanboy. But I guess that's old age for ya, creeping in, with all its cynicism :(

I like Turner because I've seen Poldark, The man who killed Hitler, and And there there were none. He's practically the type, physically, has a good commanding presence, a deep Bondian voice, when he does an english accent, that is; and he would jump from tv to film with verve and the stamina the role needs. He has shown commitment to a character for a long time, and that's important.

The day of the second coming of Dalton, all your drug-related maimings will be avenged. All your doublecrossing Soviet generals will be placed in diplomatic bags.

All your problems will be eliminated.

    All hail Dalton.

Couldn't agree with you more @Peter. I've never seen him without stubble. And as you say every image I see of him, he's posing.
Have a shave, get your hair sorted and pose normally.
I don't think he's the worst candidate, but I want too see what he might look like as Bond. Not Aidan Turner thinking he's Bond.

I actually agree with that. Stubble and curly messy hair does not a Bond make ;) And that zoolander posing is straight up Brosnan from 1994/95.

Still a Turner supporter here. But I do get what you guys mean.
  • I think we should look a little younger......I have been impressed with Harris Dickinson from the new Kingsman trailers. Having looked online, it seems he had a lot of buzz for his performance in Beach Rats. He is only 23 currently, but would be around 27 when Bond 26 is released.

He looks like a film star, so perhaps he is someone to keep an eye on.

Well Sarah Lancashire, Suranne Jones and Michelle Keegan have successfully broken from Coronation St in recent years. Anne Reid was on that show for years in the 60s, and is still a successful leading actress in her dotage. As was Arthur Lowe. Coronation St to Dad's Army.

As for this fella we are discussing. I've rarely seen such an emotionless actor in all my days. I'm a great defender of soap actors. For them its almost like live theatre, with no rehearsal and one shot at a scene. It's not until you see a plank of wood like this lad with his one note line delivery do you realise how good some of the others are.

Ladies and gentlemen I have crawled through the darkest caves and endless dungeons to find a decent photo of Aidan Turner sans stubble. Thus~

BTW, whoever the next Bond is, they should bring smoking back. The literary Bond smoked quite often and the last movie Bond to smoke was Dalton. I guess it’s not PC. I hate smoking myself but it’s just something Bond does.
