    It's a toss up between MR and DAD. DAD has the invisible car, that car that out runs the sun, halle berry, the whole change his face and dream machine.

    While MR has the double take pigeon, all of Jaws moments, the fact that an astronauts passes out at 9-10 G's but Bond walks off 13!

    Nonetheless the film sets us up for it and thus I can at least accept it. Some of the other quoted Bonds give us scenes that defy their own ambitions. OP, for example, tries so hard to very serious most of its time and so when Bond goes Tarzan, it completely feels like something from a different film altogether.

    MR is just too awesome to be taken as a joke. Sure, it's silly, but it's highly entertaining camp. Awesome Moore is awesome, so are the superb Barry score and Ken Adams sets. MR is just pure spectacle. Really, grab a drink, have some popcorn, bring some friends, turn the volume up, and just make yourself comfortable in your couch, and MR should be a thrillride for you. And Moore... his performance alone makes this a top 5 outing for me !!

    I have to agree, Moore's performance in MR is very good,and it does have some good spying moments,considering it used to be #22 on my list and is now at #16 speaks volumes for how it has gone up in my appreciation of it.

    Moonraker is good entertainment but it really does have some "oh please" moments in it. Many of which have already been mentioned. The Jaws falling in love scene is just...cringe worthy.

    This is why I'd call it one of the "silliest" entries in the series. In regard to DaltonCraig's comment about the film "being too awesome to be taken as a joke", is there really any other other way to take it? Heck, the film often treats itself as a joke *cough*double-take pigeon*cough*

    @BAIN123 I tend not to analyze MR as cringe-worthy, but as extremely amusing, exciting and entertaining stuff. The key to enjoy MR is really simple - laugh with the movie, not at it. If you can relate to Moore just having the time of his life, and just enjoying himself, you'll really connect to MR. MR is not a serious outing. I think it's that the line of laughing at or with the movie is very thin. Either you have a thrill ride watching MR, or you just find the movie utterly stupid, and worse, cringe-worthy. I'd say - the next time you feel sad, watch MR, it should really lighten your mood big time.

    I agree with you DC, you are certainly meant to laugh WITH the movie. Don't misunderstand me, I do enjoy MR but the fact that it doesn't take itself seriously doesn't detract from its overall "silliness".

    i agree... that is how i feel about Diamonds Are Forever... it's a Bond film that knew exactly what it was setting out to be - just fun romp... Moonraker, while the integrity of the film is thwarted by the last 20 minutes in space, it's still an "enjoyable" movie, for the same reason as DAF - because it had intentionally dumb moments... but i feel the difference (IMO) between MR and DAF is.. is that DAF knew exactly what it wanted to be, while MR had a bit of an identity crisis at times - it didn't know if it wanted to be serious, goofy, stern, or silly.. so they threw it all into a blender and just seemed go "whatever comes out comes out.." ..

    DIe Another Day on the other hand - was a film that was trying (with every tiny muscle in it's being) to be a serious film, while paying homage to 40 years of Bond history... and what we got, was something that was so over the top, so silly, and at often times, so dumb, that it offset everything that it was trying to be... the movie felt like a bad video game, and not a movie... i wonder if it really tried to play dumb - as many critics here in the states bashed The World Is Not Enough for having "too confusing of a plot" - i found it easy to follow - maybe those critics took one too many bathroom and popcorn breaks??.. either way... Die Another Day pushed the envelope about as far as it could reasonably be pushed, and what we got in return was a pretty embarrassing effort..

    I think both MR and DAF knew that they were "silly" films. MR may have had some more serious scenes (the dog attack and the centre-fuge scene) but these were easily out-numbered by the "sillier" moments.

    DAD (I think) wanted to be both a serious film (the grittier, drab looking first half) and a fun comic book adventure which paid homage to the last 40 yearsof 007 (the OTT second half).

    In all honesty I don't hold any of those three particularly highly in my rankings however.

    neither do i.. but i certainly rank DAF higher than MR and DAD.. based on my personal perference of course..

    MR was obviously too silly but DAF is the silliest in my opinion. The plot is just terrible to begin with and the oil rig scene makes no sense at all.

    and about all this movies you all mentioned it all depends how you watch the movie i think that MR wanted to be funny,they did it just cause it was popular at that time

    If I had a top 4, it would be Moonraker, Octopussy, Diamonds Are Forever and Golden Gun.

    But the only film mentioned of those four with any merit is Octopussy....the rest are bottom barrel Bond.

    I would have to disagree on DAD. While it turned out looking really silly, I get the feeling the producers thought they were doing somethingspectacular, yet it turned out so bad it became silly. Where on the other hand MR is self-aware of it's own silliness. So MR gets the silly award.

    Yet Cubby stated clearly that he was making a film that wasn't science fiction but rather science fact. Though this doesn't necessarily influence the silliness of the final product, it certainly feels as if Cubby took it seriously enough.

    I am torn between the snowboarding scene in TSWLM to the tune of California Girls and the gaucho ride across Brazil in MR to the tune of the Magnificent Seven. Grow up people. Fleming would never put that kid stuff in his books. (Yes, I read the books and prefer the worst of them to scenes like the 2 I just mentioned.

    I was about to say Moonraker but then I just thought of DAD. Bond surfing that tidal wave, ths invisible car...is just ridiculous. Moonraker would have to be the second silliest but it is my favourite Roger Moore Bond film. It has many great things in it.

    I don't see what is so silly about GG. Besides Pepper what is OTT? It feels pretty serious to me. Moore is serious, he smacks around his main Bond girl, shoots down Scaramanga in cold blood, does some spy stuff. Nic Nack? That the silly part I'm missing?

    I would pick DAF. Blofeld in drag probably puts it over the edge, but the whole film is pretty out there. Blofeld clones, a weird freak show with a woman/gorilla, the moonbuggy, Jimmy Dean, gay henchman....It's just all over the place.

    That said, I don't dislike the movie. It's trying to be OTT, and I can appreciate that.

    I feel like it's different than DAD, which at many times tries to be serious and largely fails, and TMWTGG, which is very silly, but fails to entertain me.

    DAF works, somehow....

    Moonraker for me. The Production design and effects team deserve praise. The writers should be shot. IT WANTS TO BE (said nerdy) STAR WARS!

    DAD a close second. Well the invisible aston could happen in 10 years, my problem is the really bad CGI, the jaguar with a SMG to big for it and the whole third act

    YOLT and TSWLM are the classic ones so why are they here

    I Know this is for films but the video game: Nightfire?

    If the question is silliest: Moonraker (a lot of fun in the right mood, though). If the question is worst: Die Another Day. Diamonds does have some great dialog ("Of course you are") and is a sterling example of Bondian High Camp.
