    Pretty cool poster

That's the one! Frank McCarthy artwork, perhaps?

In The Netherlands, under the name ''Retro Collection'' Sony going to re-release (Only on dvd, not BD) 23 old (50-60's-70) movies with original coverart.

Include two movie's with Sean Connery.

    Robin and Marian
    9200000096969027_1.jpg

The Man Who Would Be King
    9200000096969031_1.jpg

Of course not worth the money. Only 1 disc releases with some of them with DD 2.0 tracks. There asking € 9,99 each.

Earlier this year i bough 3 keepcase boxset with three movies on BD for € 9,00, with atleast same extra's as 2 disc dvd. Even as single release you pay 9,99 - 12,99 for BD.

Might not be worth the money, as you write, @M_Balje - but that's some gorgeous looking covers! Wish they could stay away from using overly Photoshopped artwork and use stuff like this for releases of older movies.

To be honest as much as I appreciate good movie art I am not very good with the names of the artists.

Shame that Lionsgate/Belga Home Video deside to change artwork for BD/DVD release of The Spy Who Dumped Me in this

I prefer there based it more on this one, what there plan first

Mabey because of another movie from them ''A Simple Favor'' using a bit of same idea:

Might be why; the background colours more than anything are very similar. The poster artwork (without those two guys) is much better though, so it's a shame they didn't use it for the BR release.

Maybe they could have removed the flat background colours and replaced them with some nice environment shots from a couple of scenes?

The Creed 2 poster has a similar look to some of the Rocky III and Rocky IV posters which works thematically.

In the category of minimalistic movie posters, this is a good one. A nice throwback to the old Rocky movie posters!

Cool ones, but I do prefer the Saul Bass posters for Hitchcock's films.

A couple of minimalist Strangers on a Train posters, I like how in each poster key movie props take center stage.

Great posters @Thunderfinger and @Fire_and_Ice_Returns! Never seen any of those before, with the exception of the Rope one. That was one of the first Hitchcock films I saw.

Hah! "Bette Davis & Bette Davis" is quite clever! Never seen that poster nor the Yul Brynner one before, but I think I've seen a different version of the Dead Ringer one.

    Yep :)

(if you see rolled 70s/80s movie posters from Hong Kong on ebay , stay away....the originals were always factory folded and much darker in color , no glossy paper. The real ones are often found torn and/or missing pieces so to find one in this nice shape is wonderful)
Interesting info re. fakes, @Tracy. I only have a few reprint posters myself, but it would be fantastic to own an original one at some point. I guess the same would apply for European/American posters as well, with the darkar colours, matte paper instead of glossy, etc.?
  • edited February 2019 Posts: 1,637
Yes , there are fakes of those too : minty white Jaws insert , for instance

Still I feel safer with posters than autographs (now THAT is an area riddled with fakes !)

I havent seen any fake Singapore posters though so theyre safer to buy than Hong Kong ones

In Canada (for example Quebec) they were required by law to censor stamp the kung fu posters so that you could see they were OK-ed by film censors (note blue stamp in lower right corner of that Wang Yu poster , thats censor stamp)
Interesting info, @Tracy! Guess minty white posters are non-existent for older films at least. One would expect some yellowing of the paper.

Wouldn't feel comfortable buying an autographed poster/image etc. online, that's for sure. A lot of those got to be fake. The prices are high too.

Interesting fact re. the censor stamp! If searching for original poster artwork, stuff like that is very good to know. I don't know if there was anything similar here in Scandinavia at the time, but it might have been. Have never heard of fake Scandinavian poster artwork though.

Nice posters! Never seen those Nosferatu ones before; nice detail with the mic in the first one – and the second one has a The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen feel to it. Kinda reminds me of the work of Kevin O'Neill.

Looks like the artist, William Stout, has made more movie posters than just the Nosferatu one:

They are very similar! The films were made one year apart, so the similarity of the RRHS one might have been intentional to tap into the popularity of Animal House.

That Modesty Blaise poster is a great one! Wouldn't mind having a print of it framed on the wall. Have yet to actually see the film though!

I am a fan of 60's Spy films as probably most are on here, I saw the film when young though when channel hopping stumbled on it whilst at work. Its OK its a bit of a psychodelic spy spoof Monaca Vitti would have made a good Bond Girl I think.

I have no doubt she would have been great! As Tracy perhaps?
Will have to check out Modesty Blaise at some point. Like you, I really enjoy 60's spy films – and 60's films in general.
