It sounds like the troubles of QoS. I hope it doesnt effect the movie if thye begin filming with no finished script. I mean, the fact some actors havent even been given a script this late to the shooting date is a bit concerning.
Why is that? My understanding is that there are productions where even during shooting every Actor gets only those parts relevant for his role.

Did you hear that Burns turned in a completed script @peter

You’re asking the same guy who argued persistently that filming would begin March 4th

You’re nuts; I never claimed the March 4 date (that was Variety @Pierce2Daniel), I said, and maintain, shooting will begin before March is at a close. But you know that already.

Also... Jamaica... five or six weeks before Baz mentioned it last week— but you know that already...
@peter, you´re arguing with the same guy who quotes uninformative speculation as real News.

Scott Z Burns leaves Bond 25; script still unfinished; will film make start date?

From the same reporter who announced Burns’s invovlement.

    Not looking positive....
This is the Universe punishing EON for firing one of Britain’s most talented filmmakers who was eager to do a Bond film. Barbara needs to go. Now.
@Panchito you´re unbelievable. You´re Hours late to the Party, and then you don´t even bother to take in the state of Affairs.

That does occasionally happen, but it's very rare these days. In most cases, cast and crew get the full script.

Yes, Barbara needs to go. I can't wait to see Star Wars Vs. James Bond: The Return of Hugo Drax, a Netflix production in cooperation with Disney!

Yes, because by 'firing' Barbara Broccoli and throwing the series in the hands of money hungry outsiders with an agenda, who aren't a part of the Bond legacy, everything will be solved.

PP will get his Bond film "in time", whatever that means, and those outsiders will definitely re-hire an artistic director like Danny Boyle.

Come now, children. Time to grow up.

This is the biggest crock-of-dog feces I've read in a while: the journo ASSUMES the script isn't done. Why??? Because Fiennes says he hasn't received his script??? Read about Nolan films, and a role like M gets delivered within just a few weeks (days) of shooting that role; same with the Marvel films; M/Fiennes doesn't need to see a script since he's not the star-- he knows what his role is in a film like B25, lol!

Burns was on polish duties-- and this was reported-- It would last about 3 to 4 weeks.

    That time is now.

He handed in his script. His finished. Polished. Script.

He has now moved on to his next project (as writers will do); he delivered his work on time, as was reported.

    Ridiculous....

I do find it fascinating that people here tend to pick and choose the pieces of news they want to hear.

Rodrigo Perez from The Playlist, is the same reporter who announced that the start date had been pushed a month to accommodate Scott Z Burns to rewrite the script.

Now, Perez isn’t immune to hyperbole. He labelled Burns’ rewrite as an “overhaul” and Variety countered this claim by suggesting Eon were happy with CJF’s work. So I imagine Burns was bought on to polish.

Now Perez is reporting that Burns has left the film to complete another obligation and the script is unfinished. Word that Fiennes has yet to see a script is insignificant.

Perez suggests he’ll have “more soon”. So till then we wait and see. However, if you believed Perez on the Scott Z Burns update, I think there is little reason to not accept the majority of what he is claiming now.

    Just my two cents

What was Perez' track record on scoops prior to breaking the Scott Z Burns and pushed start date story? Has he shown that he had reliable sources otherwise?

You can see that his second piece, about the "unfinished script," is 99% speculation based on his original scoop and an interview with Ralph Fiennes that aired on the BBC. Burns was always scheduled to direct his project after the four week window during which he could work on the script for Bond 25. That was part of the original deal, and I haven't learnt anything new by reading the piece.

And the other bit is that Fiennes isn't in the loop regarding his part or the shooting schedule. That's hardly news or worrying. His involvement is already secured. Fiennes is now being handsomely paid for being on a retainer. He isn't doing any location work. When they finalize a shooting schedule for the production at Pinewood, he'll get his pages, and that's basically it.

It could be that Perez was very lucky about the delay and Scott Burns story, but he hasn't received any other input on the production. Hence this follow-up piece that poses as insider stuff but is all speculation based on elements anybody can get.

There is a tendency towards mild sensationalism in the article. The author says

apparently, some of the cast have no clue what the movie is about or what they’re doing in it because they haven’t received scripts yet.

And then goes on to say that Ralph Fiennes hasn't seen the script - hardly 'some of the cast', more like 'one of the cast'.
And Fiennes has already told us this in the Lorraine programme last week.

He expects to film in May/June time which would be about right for studio scenes.

    Quick update of leaked info

So what we know so far...

Rami Malek 95% chance he’s the villain or in the film.

    Madeline probably dies.

CIA is involved in this movie, they have a male and a female agent.

There was a casting call for “two Bond girls”, plus we have Madeline so that’s three Bond girls?

I would say there’s also a really good chance that the male CIA agent is working with the villain he’s a mole.

Italy will be the Pre-Title sequence.

Norway is the scene after the Pre-titles, they are planning on blowing up a building that’s a cottage. (Madeline and Bond get ambushed, Madeline dies, Bond escapes).

    Alleged title is “Eclipse”

    [\spoiler]

What leaked info? You just repeated the stuff we already know!

You don't have to be mean. He's proving that Barbara Broccoli is doing her job.

Cannon believe people find qos a better made film than spectre. makes me laugh

    Believe it... ;)

Personally, from what I know of The Playlist, I think Perez's source is Scott Z Burns or Cary Fukunaga...

They are a renown indie film website and have very close links to both filmmakers from their ties to Indiewire. Perez is the founder.

Perez doesn't hide the fact that he's friends with both filmmakers. He was instrumental in reporting on their careers in those early days.

Again, I would like a straight answer from all the EON apologists: how much more bad news and delays would it take for you to say “ENOUGH”?

Would you keep defending EON if the movie was pushed back to the end of 2020? How about if the movie was pushed back to 2021 and the end result turned out to be a horrible mess?

Well said @FredJB007 there is too much negativity. Let things pan out, before everyone loses their minds. The film hasn't started shooting and for some it's going to be a disaster.

Never. I'll never turn to the dark side!
Thing is @PanchitoPistoles BB and MGW didn't just inherit the Bond series. They both earned their place at EON. MGW has been working on the films since 1964, and more prominently since 1977.
BB was working on the films from 1981 onwards. They haven't just been handed the series.
As a Bond fan, I wont give up till they do. EON could sell to Disney or anyone else, and only if they flush the character or series down the toilet would I reconsider. But that's unlikely. For now in EON I trust.
Bond 25 will be released. Patience is a virtue my friend.

What delay? That article says Burns completed his (as was reported in the original article) 3 to 4 week polish. He submitted his assignment on time.

There was only one person who said to expect more delays, lol (and now a few from the chorus continue to sing from that song book).

I can remember being really excited by the prospect of Yann Demange directing Bond 25. '71 was absolutely brilliant. That seems like a lifetime ago. I think the age of the internet is to blame here. Lots of films have very colourful and laboured productions; we just see more of it played out nowadays. We live in a time of instant gratification and lose sight of our own impatience. The gaps are frustrating, but only because we're so passionate. That's the common thing that unites all of us: passion for Bond. That's something we should be proud of and grateful for. We're a collective and we're bickering like children. Let's celebrate this phenomenon and appreciate it for actually existing in the first place. James Bond will return...

Comments such as this are inane.

Yes, we are all frustrated. But saying "enough" isn't a feasible option. Bond is not a democracy. Barbara Broccoli is not Theresa May. We don't get to elect a leader.

Theoretically, they don't have to produce a Bond film. Commercially, they have an incentive. But they aren't democratically compelled and we are customers and not part of an electoral mandate who get to decide when we want these films and how they are produced.

Also, I feel there is a certain toxic element on the internet where female executives are held to a high account than their male counterparts. Fanboys seem to be targeting Kathy Kennedy personally for the faults of the Star Wars series, and there is a weird anti-Barbara broccoli sentiment growing here. It's perverse and deliberate.
  • I think PP is referring to the bad news about 25 since the beginning. Delays, director quits, 'possible' script issues. On top of the gap, after Spectre. I know we would all love to hear nothing but good news. We do have the on set leaks in Norway, and imagine more to come soon once filming starts.

All I mean is, I think it's ok to be critical sometimes. I do believe the producers are doing their best.

Hard to imagine Norway filming begins next week. I just don't see how this is possible if the script still isn't finished. I apologize for being so negative, and I don't like being negative but good God already. This has been so painful. Between the time gap since SPECTRE, and the lack of significant news it just feels like this film is never going to see the light of day.

All I want is an official statement from EON that doesn't have the word "delay" in it.
