    It seems more and more likely the reason they are clinging to Craig this much is that they have already decided to sell the franchsie (or at least retire from it) after Craig is gone. MGW will probably exit the franchise after Bond 25 anyway because of his age, and it's entirely reasonable to believe that Barbara Broccoli has no interest in producing future Bond movies without Craig.

    This is a new dark age, but remember, the night is darkest just before the dawn. Bond will rise again.

    Or the exact opposite.

    Babs could feel like it is her responsibility to carry on the torch from her father, and to pass it on to her children, and MGW's.

    There is no evidence of Eon selling, beyond wishful thinking. There is evidence that Eon keeps a tight rein on its IP, which frankly is why Boyle is gone.

    Daniel Craig is a complete nobody in the Hollywood system. He's hardly employable. Why are Eon so desperately hanging on to him? He's done.
    Replacing Craig is not enough. A new, fresh approach to producing Bond films is needed, with a new writer. How excited would you be about the prospect of a Bond film starring a new actor, but written by P&W?

    I agree with these entirely. As I've said before, new people is a slight risk that EON needs now! Put the slightly familiar things in there, but have different voices put their stamp on it.

    For the umpteenth time: MI6-HQ has confirmed last year that the rumour about Barbara Broccoli and MGW thinking about selling the franchise after BOND 25 is more than baseless speculation.

    Hindsight is 20/20 but they have mucked up Craig’s tenure. His third film should have ended the CR/ QOS trilogy and his fourth film should have been the retirement angle skyfall style film. We should have been getting skyfall now, it’s the film we need now, as the future of bond seems uncertain

    Funny how the infantile amongst us, seem to think that relieving DC of his Walther means we somehow get a new Bond and whole new story in the same time we would get a slightly delayed DC film.

    We were promised a Boyle directed film with a Hodge script for 2019. That's 4 years after the previous film. Why? The lead actor and the producers said they needed a break. The only one who they could get to do it that satisfied him was Boyle (even though he had expressed doubts about this kind of project before), due to his great 'creative vision' or 'idea'. So they threw everything away to wait for his writer to get something together. Then they made the pitch to the distributor and got it locked. Now this. Why? Who knows really, but from what we're reading, the reasons are somewhat pathetic.

    It was Craig who wanted Boyle according to Baz. It was Craig, by his own admission, who wanted them to wait for Mendes. We know the man was a reluctant and spent force after SF (he should have left on a 'high'). It was Craig, by his own admission, who wanted to inject more 'Moore' (as he called it) into SP. This resulted (imho) in one of the worst performances by a Bond actor on film. It was Craig, again by his own admission, who needed a break. It was EON who didn't clean up his 'wrist slash' comments, that had unfettered play in the media for 2 years, day in, day out and created a narrative which lingers to this day while he's the lead.

    I'm sure they're trying their best, but it's not good enough. They can certainly do better. There's no doubt about that. Especially after the SP fiasco, a more hands on and controlled approach was necessary for this film. You don't go to Boyle if you want that.

    As I said, I measure on results. Get the film out on time. Make sure it's good. If the actor gives you any more demands at this point, sack him and get on with it.

    I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s time for a unknown to take over the franchise. If it’s a 5 year wait we’re looking at, keep Ralph Fiennes as M, and Ben Whislaw as Q and reboot it. They have a lot of material to look at, not just “original” screenplays by Purvis and Wade.

    New writer - Well, I expected someone to come on board to polish Hodge's script. Of course Hodge is gone with Boyle. I'm not panicking over the news on the writer. Slight delays doesn't bother me, either. I think this will get smoothed out and progress continue this fall. So many dire predictions flying around everywhere (not just here).

    At this meeting, it will be announced when the rehearsals will resume (scheduled for September the 3rd) or filming will resume (scheduled for December the 3rd).

    A date or a postponement could be announced.

    Russian television REN TV also echoes the news and adds an interesting detail: the actor and former MMA fighter (mixed martial arts), Oleg Taktarov, would have made a test a month ago for a villain role.

    My question is why would Eon/Boyle start screen-testing Russian actors if they were unhappy with the so called "modern-day cold war" story? None of this makes remote sense.

    Personally, I think Vallee is a far more exciting name than Boyle and much better suited to Craig's era. He could even bring in the brilliant Gillian Flynn to retool the script.

    While it is far less sexy based on everything I can bet a million fake dollars the pressure just got to Boyle and if I am right they will likely do the same idea but bring in a new director to put his (or her) spin on the material and we will still get the film in November

    Star Wars, Star Trek, super hero fans... maybe. But I think that no one ever really cared about us - Bond fans, not even EON. At least that's my impression.

    Damn. We got barely any news for months and now there is a new twist nearly every hour! I have completely stopped looking forward to Bond 25, but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy all these twists since Boyle departed.
