From La-La Land Records on Film Score Monthly just now:

"Eon is looking closely at this release and it's pending success. If this does well, 2018 is gonna be looking up!"

I'm sure Die Another Day is going to sell like hotcakes anyway, but if you're interested in expanded Bonds beyond this one, support this release!

Yes, this could really open up several more Bond releases from from LLL. EON had no interest in these for so long, I wonder what made them bite this time.

I have the one disk CD verion of DAD and various other individual tracks from the film though being a completionist I'll definitely buy this version.

That's a great question. I suspect, given his hands-on involvement with this project, David Arnold has had something to do with convincing them.

I will be picking this up when it goes for sale at lalalandrecords.com next Tuesday.
You actually sold me on this, @Some_Kind_Of_Hero. I'll buy it.

And with some relief disc two isn't just Madonna remixes.

    The very best part!
  • Something potentially mind-blowing actually just occurred to me. Didn't Jon Burlingame mention in "The Music of James Bond" that pre-Madonna (not to be confused with "prima donna"), Arnold had been working on an original title song inspired by the phrase "James Bond Will Return" that appears at the end of each film? What if Track 20 of Disc 2 isn't alternate end title music but actually a mock-up or a demo of Arnold's unused song, very likely sung by himself as he's done in concert with his other songs? Maybe not, but then maybe so. I believe I just blew my own mind here.

@Some_Kind_Of_Hero I believe that track was called "I Will Return". I asked Arnold on Twitter whether it was completed and he said it wasn't. So, sadly, the piece was not materialized. I doubt they'll do it now.

But the song's main cues were incorporated to the soundtrack. @JMY remixed it himself.

Ah, thanks for clarifying, @ClarkDevlin. Now that you mention I believe you're right that it was called "I Will Return." That lessens the odds. Still, you never know. And if anyone would be a good enough sport to go ahead and record a mock-up just for a release like this, it would be Arnold.

    And sweet remix!

The music from the bank and casino scenes is also missing, as is the cue heard when Bond arrives in Kazakhstan (it was made available in David Arnold's website along with the ski music you mention). Also missing is the music heard when M uses the clock to signal her position in the Maiden Tower. There might be more.

There's also the music when Renard clutches the hot stone, and a couple of tracks at Maiden's Tower.

And that cool end credits music. And Dr. Warmflash's office. And rolling down the Dome. And the film version of "Welcome to Baku." There's quite a lot of unreleased music from The World Is Not Enough that hopefully will make its way to CD before long. Exciting times!

Oh, I love that cue with Bond rolling down the Dome. Short but great.

LLL are saying that they tried to include the song, but that Madonna turned them down.
  • I'd say they dodged a bullet there. ;)

Seriously though, I actually don't mind Madonna's song. But I also don't think its absence will turn anyone off from buying this.

Is this the way of bringing back Arnold to the front page...?

I wouldn't necessarily assume so. But it's certainly good that Arnold and Eon are in touch.

I've actually still got that Madonna single on cd that has like 5 remixes I think. I'm totally fine with that being left out of LLL's new soundtrack!

It's the score; I don't need the Madonna song. It brings a fairly standalone aura to the film anyway. A few notes of it--what few notes it has--have made it into the score, but nothing to get worked up over. Furthermore, you can, as @JET007 pointed out, find it elsewhere. If you want it in the score, just do some ripping, copying, pasting and merging. ;-)

I'm hopeful though that THE CLASH will be featured in the score, since I've always loved how "London calling" segues into Arnold's ominous orchestral piece.

@DarthDimi , I hadn't thought about The Clash being incorporated. That's a pretty good idea! Having not owned any of their music back in 2002, I did go out and buy a CD that London Calling on it, just so I could complete the DAD listening experience!
  • Quite certain The Clash won't be featured here. The track with Gustav Graves' entrance is only a minute and a half (not long enough for song and score) and I'm sure The Clash would have been credited in the track listing. Fortunately it's easy enough to obtain "London Calling" elsewhere and recreate the film edit on your computer if you have basic software like GarageBand. I'll probably do that myself.

    @Some_Kind_Of_Hero Will Return
  • I have quite a bit of experience with recreating film edits for my own listening pleasure, so I’m sure I can get it sounding virtually identical.

In the film, the Gustav Graves' Grand Entrance track has the electronic sounds removed.

I believe the rendition of the Bond theme heard in the first half of that track was meant to accompany the deleted preceding scene in which Bond escapes via the landing gear.

Oh, I see what you mean now that I've looked it up. If that's the version they've included I won't be able to recreate it like in the film.

I'd always assumed that part was meant for the scene in the plane instead of "London Calling". Thanks for the info.

You gotta love those chaps at LaLaLand Records! They are one of the great hopes for this universe!

I won´t be buying DAD, because I already got a limited promo release of the full score. I made myself a nice compilation of about 70-80mins I think. The score in its full runtime has just too many filler noises. But as I have it now, it´s totally incomparable to the official release, which takes singular tracks totally out of context and throws them without any love or respect together.

Besides, I just shelled out a little fortune for Lalaland´s expanded release of the Sky Captain soundtrack, which is so worth it! If they were to release full scores from TMWTGG on, I´d be happy to sell my car to support them.

The full soundtrack is nearly or about two hours long.

Probably not. The release I´ve got features the JB theme we hear when Bond sits in the 747 segueing into the part we hear when Graves makes his parachute jump.
