It's sad how since 2010 the long and reliable DVD format gets the short straw, not just from Fox/MGM but practically every studio now just to make the features on blu-ray "exclusive". I think Criterion is the only company that produces blu-ray and DVDs with the same content. CR and QOS originally came out like that (aside from the short lived "single disc edition" that every studio practiced).

The last time a re-issue with newer features happened was with the collectors edition for CR in 2008 by Sony. QOS was originally slated for its own, as Forster revealed that a commentary for such a 2010 release was recorded, but then MGM had its issues and stuff like the commentary has never seen the light of day. It's in the archives somewhere, so who knows if that will ever see the light of day.

QOS really should have got the upgrade with the Bond 50 set. It's the odd one in the bunch with menus that don't match with the set.

Why the hell FOX Home Entertainment and the official 007 Social Media are promoting these videos with cast interviews, if they won't be at the DVD/BD? :O

It's time for us to face that we'll never have a full set with matching menus/artwork. It simply won't happen.

Its ridiculous to think that but I really can't offer any evidence to say you're not right.

Maybe for the 100th anniversary they'll bring out a box set with uniform disc design, the poster art for all the cases not the shitty photoshop crap they are so fond of and a decent load of new extras?

Or not. Probably QOS will still have that same menu!

The problem with that is by 2062, movies on physical support will have long disappeared. So we'll probably only have the Bond films on streaming in ultra-mega-uber HD. And consider yourself lucky if the movie doesn't buffer a few times!

The other problem is that many of us will either be dead or too damn old to cause a stink if EON (if they are still called that) screw the pooch again for the big 100. I can picture @Creasy47, @Murdock, @DaltonCraig007 and I hobbling with our walkers over to Pinewood with malicious signs, which we'd try our best to raise up as our hands shook like tree leaves in a high wind and our breathing would grow more desperate with each passing minute. Have I just predicted the future? We'll just have to see in five decades.

Got mine yesterday afternoon from Amazon- could they have made a cheaper DVD package? Oh wait, they did, for Skyfall and QOS. Casino Royale is the only one that has had a respectable DVD release.

    This.

Very sad, very true. The only thing to expect when purchasing this movie in any format is the movie itself, and hopefully you're one of us that managed to enjoy it. It's lacking in a solid artwork/physical release, special features, just about everything but the movie itself.
Agreed. EoN are embarrassing themselves in terms of the content. I did however enjoy the Bond's Biggest Opening Sequence feature and the somewhat minimalistic packaging of the steelbook though. I just wish they'd gone for the title sequence design to go with the other ones that were released.

Yeah, the opening sequence featurette was slightly better than what I thought we were going to get. The said, just imagine if they had made a 1-hour long documentary on the preparation of the sequence. That would have been amazing. Alas, those days when we get really cool supplements are long gone I imagine.

Let's unbox the "SPECTRE" steelbook, and then we discover that it's actually one of the nicest designed steelbooks from the Bond series! It's simply, stylish, andddd it has some embossed/debossed effects (which previously only the "GoldenEye" and "Goldfinger" steelbook had). As you can see, the bullet hole is embossed:

Thanks for the video. Great looking steelbook. I debated with myself about buying it or not. Ultimately I decided against it. I just bought 9 Bond steelbooks last fall from Best Buy and they were a heck of a lot cheaper, to say nothing of the fact that this SP steelbook doesn't sport an image from the title sequence, which is what made the 9 other steelbooks so tantalizing. I have a sneaking suspicion we'll be getting another, cheaper steelbook sometime in the future, at which point I'll be more willing to bite the bullet.

Now the blu-ray is out, is there any chance someone could provide screencaps from the movie?

Yes. I pre-ordered it. It's a DVD with a few minutes of stuff. Not a whole lot honestly. Sam Smith's music video, The Shadow of SPECTRE, and a short video about the title sequence which is actually rather enjoyable.
  • I want the unseen ending from QOS where Bond travels to the Stately home of Guy Hanes an executes Hanes and Mr White. It is just a myth it exists however the QOS game is said to have been based on the footage shot scene by scene indicating it does exist.

Many pictures show that the scene was filmed but it hasn't been released.

Now that White's arc is concluded, hopefully we will see the original vision for his character. I now understand why EON held off on sharing it all these years: they wanted to use White later on after the original QoS ending hit the cutting room floor, and refused to show it for that very reason. And boy am I glad they did.

As short as the scene is, having Bond and White meet again, with the latter still hooked up to an IV stand gives me chills, recalling images to my mind of their dialogue in Italy after the PTS. I like how they used the character to represent to Bond the image of the kind of man he could grow to be if he's not careful. Jasper was put to good use, and I'm thrilled he agreed to return. With the connections SP was making to the past films, his presence was beyond vital to the drama.

Absolutely agree! As soon as I found out Jesper was in SP I suspected/anticipated a great scene like that!

I got my DVD from Amazon The Disappointing is they should explain how Chistorph Waltz got Oberhausen to the Bond famous enemy Blofield. Christian Jesper performing Mr.White for last time. Extras should be up to half an hour. The Video song Sam Smith Writing on the Wall.

Is it my imagination, or is the bonus material getting lamer and shittier with each film?

    Nope, it's a reality.

DISCLAIMER: Unhealthy levels of sarcasm ahead.

But hey, lift your head up, sport. You can buy over half a damn dozen different blu-ray editions of SP that are floating around out there, each with their own unique shiny packaging. What's that? So what if they add absolutely nothing to the movie watching experience. You can get a cool case with the bullet hole design on it. Then, if you save up your money, you can get another blu-ray with with the same bullet hole cover design, but this time *gasp* it's embossed! That's changes everything, right? And on top of that, you can get a bunch of mini poster cards in another release with photos from the movie on them that you can use as tea coasters, bookmarks for keeping your place in a novel you're reading, or to do some flossing in the morning. Totally useful and worth the money, right? Right? Not to mention the amazing bonus disc exclusive to Target (gotta love those exclusives), which contains twenty minutes of content we all should have gotten with the standard SP release. But hey, that's all water under the bridge, right? Right...

Err because that would require them to change the piss poor edition of QOS we've been stuck with for the last 7 years.

Don't know what you're moaning about. There's still all that fabulous new content from the 50th box set to wade through.

I for one never get tired of watching that disc of all the title sequences back to back that they class as 'over an hour of brand new content'!

Why don't they just make the Target exclusive edition the edition that is sold everywhere? I mean it's not as if there's much more on that anyway.

I guess it just boils down to the extra money it takes to produce the extra features. Damn it's such a shame though. Films of this quality deserve to have a proper Making Of Featurette. The stories behind the stories. I don't know, perhaps instead of wasting millions of dollars trashing tons of expensive sports cars on lame chases and stolen SUVs(Maybe they were insured), use that saved money to budget for proper special features. Plan to include the special features into the production budget from the get go.

I keep thinking that we will get an awesome collector's edition or special edition QOS, SF, and maybe even SP eventually, but those hopes are dimming with each passing year. It appears they are trying to cut the Bluray/DVD/ presentation down to a skeleton product. Not even a lousy commentary track though. That really grinds my gears. That should have been added to Mendes contract from the beginning. Require him to do a simple Director's Commentary Audio Track. Stick a mic in front of him and a couple of hours recording voila done. It's not like it has to be absolutely freaking perfect. Some of the most enjoyable commentaries to me were the unrehearsed ones like Sir Roger's personal commentary on most of his films.

On Sky Sports they used to do a thing where they would have a fan from each team doing the football commentary. It would be pretty cool to have a fans' commentary on a Bond film.
