That's because you suck. I have SPECTRE at 24.

    That's because you blow. ;)

Spectre can still grow on me. Actually it has some good elements. The cinematography and the humour were quiet good. I also enjoyed the Spectre meeting scene and the Scene in Tanger. But all the action was rather boring. I mean a car chase in the empty streets of Rome? What is great about that? I would have expected some traffic there. Bond has even time for a telephone call. This is not very tense. And is there anyone who really likes the ending of the film? Is it just me who thinks it is a big anticlimax?

    too
I think TND is a very solid Action Movie. But for me it was always very unmemorable and uninteresting. It is a very generic action movie. It has in fact very few flaws but it also has not very many good elements, too. The villain is overacted, the henchman Stamper is forgettable, the locations are boring (I mean as a German I am happy to have Hamburg as a Bond location, but they just filmed in a garage and a hotel room, you see nothing of the city itself). The score was quiet good (but no Barry). The Bond girl was kick ass but I missed the character and the chemistrry with Bond. I only liked Dr. Kaufmann. I think he was very funny but he died way too fast.

I really don't dislike the film. After another viewing it may be 5 to 10 places higher on my list. I have noting particular against it.

  • The ending of SP was okay, a run-of-the-mill Bond ending. Kinda capped the descent of the story throughout. The first half of this story deserved better. Is it awful? Nope, just mundane.

TND needed just a little more glamour/class in the female dept, and a bit more romance. and I'd rank it much higher. As I said somewhere else, Bellucci (as rumoured) would have clinched it.

It was near perfect as-is... I feel sorry for all of you who aren't reveling in the glory of the best Bond of this century... ^:)^

Every time I check on IMDB (which is basically meaningless terms of quality, but it does reflect public opinion, which is what I'm getting at) it seems to have fallen a few more points.
Wharever- I'm as happy as I can be! The only hard part is going to be not letting myself over-watch SPECTRE now.

I do think that SP is a much better film than TND, a film that lost whatever good stuff it had going on during the Hamburg party scene.

It lost it from the start.

I liked the Hamburg party actually. It had a bit of class to it. "I'd be lost at sea... adrift." I didn't particularly like much after the Halo scene, although the bike chase was very well done.

I have yet to see SP since the theatre and need to before I can determine a rank for it. I think I'm going to end up ranking it similar to TND after I see it, which is middle to lower of the pack. They are both action driven Bond films for me (a little light on plot), but I think TND may actually do it better than SP on that score. At least the action was class leading for 1997.

I'll know for sure after I pick up the blu.

@GBF, AVTAK first? It used to be my second a long time ago...wish that was still true, but FYEO is now my favourite Moore outing.

For me, TSWLM, FYEO, and LALD are my clear-cut favorite Roger Moore films. After that it's a bit of a drop.

Nice to hear that it is one of your favourites. Yes your nick name makes me believe you are an AVTAK fan. I don't know. It is probably the bond film I saw the most. It was very often shown on German TV when I was young, like all the other RM Bond films. I also noticed that the German version is probably the better one since Stacey is not screaming that much, at least it's not that loud and annoying :-)

I also like FYEO. I really like the funny car chase with the Bill Conty score and the suspensefull underwater sequence. I only found the ending not that good and the villains a bit unmemorable. And I still don't know why they had the figure skater in it :-) She was in the film for no reason :-) But I also liked Columbo, Luigi and Melina.

I honestly like most Bond films and RM is my favourite Bond actor. I always wondered why people say they like Roger but they dislike AVTAK. It has less campy elements than other bond films and some very good incredients like the score, the villains, locations,...

Probably it is Roger's age that makes many people dislike his last film.

For me, this is a big part of it. I notice it here, but not so much in OP, where he seems to have more drive and energy. Also, as I said, I just find the location use a bit pedestrian. Not glamorous at all in that larger than life Bond way. Just me though.

He actually looks younger and trimmer in AVTAK over Octopussy. But the use of stuntmen is too often and too obvious in the action scenes.

You are correct, but at the risk of offending Moore fans (of which I am definitely one) that loss of weight exposed his age more. I think it might have been better if he had kept some of the pudge. I'm uncomfortable saying that, but it's just the way I feel about it.
  • Oh well here's my list now with post blu-ray watch of Spectre. For me its one of those half and half Bond films, the first portion really kills, its paced very well, a lot of good interplay between the characters, but it falters a bit in the second half. So I guess its appropriate I've put it at the exact halfway point on the list.

    1. Casino Royale
    2. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    3. The Spy who loved me
    4. For your eyes only
    5. Licence to Kill
    6. Goldfinger
    7. Skyfall
    8. You only live twice
    9. The Man with the golden gun
    10. The Living Daylights
    11. Moonraker
    12. SPECTRE
    13. Diamonds are forever
    14. Die Another Day
    15. Octopussy
    16. Dr. No
    17. The World is Not Enough
    18. Live and let die
    19. A View to a Kill
    20. Quantum of Solace
    21. Thunderball
    22. From Russia with love
    23. Tomorrow never dies
    24. Goldeneye

I'm new here. And think it is time for a somewhat different ranking:

    01. A View to a Kill
    02. The Living Daylights
    03. From Russia with Love
    04. Casino Royal
    05. For Your Eyes Only
    06. Goldfinger
    07. Golden Eye
    08. The World is not Enough
    09. Skyfall
    10. Live and Let Die
    11. Octopussy
    12. On her Majesty's Secret Service
    13. Thunderball
    14. The Spy who loved me
    15. You only live twice
    16. Dr. No
    17. The Man with the Golden Gun
    18. Licence to kill
    19. Diamonds are Forever
    20. Moonraker
    21. Tomorrow never dies
    22. Spectre
    23. Quantum of Solace
    24. Die another day

That's quite a good list. The only obvious problem with it is Specter at 22nd, much too low in my opinion.

Your list is the most interesting by far. I completely agree with your top-2.
What I find must intriguing is you have DAD not only at 14, but also the best of the Brosnan era, and Goldeneye as dead last overall. Care to explain?

Sure! DAD I find to be mostly enjoyable, and there's a sense of fun about it that isn't really there in any of the other Brosnan films. Yes there are terrible moments in it, but the action is good with the swordfight and hovercraft chase, Brosnan is giving his best performance, and its energetic, unlike the dreary soap opera drama of TWINE. (And I actually thought I would have TWINE much lower but on a recent watch I came away with a hey, this isn't that bad kind of reaction).

Goldeneye, yes it's my least favorite Bond film. I just find to be...dull. 90% of it takes place in decidedly un-exotic grey, dour, dreary locations, the Euro-bleeping score is terrible, I find Xenia Onatopp to be the most embarrassing character in the entire series, Brosnan is trying way too hard to be Bond, the "it's what keeps you alone!" attempts at psychology are awkward and out of place, Bond slaughters entire platoons with a machine gun, Alan Cumming is too silly...etc.

Nice explanation sir- one I don't happen to share, but I understand. It's not my top Bond either, but I like it more than you do, even though the "I am INVINCIBLE" nonsense grates terribly.

I think Octopussy might have a chance to pass TMWTGG and TND on my list. Maybe. I'd like to do another full Bondathon soon - maybe next month. FRWL might move up. It seems every time I do a Bondathon a couple things change at least, but the majority remains the same.
