If the Bond 26 carries on where NTTD left off yes it time to give the classic Aston Martin a rest

I don’t see how Bond 26 can carry on where NTTD left off …
Bond died at the end of NTTD!

The most probable course of events is that the DB5 will disappear for 2-3 films and then make a glorious comeback. As long as AM are sponsoring the films, the DB5 will turn up again at some stage, while in the meantime there will be new AM models to be featured.

I don't really want old iconic cars back if I'm honest, the V8 Vantage as gorgeous as it still was, seemed a touch out of place in NTTD.

Going forward give Bond a fairly new Aston and he can have that for a few films and then maybe get the latest one at some point during Bond #7's run

Thank you for spoilering this...reminds me of when Cameron's Titanic came out, some people on message boards were bitterly complaining that some other posters had mentioned the sinking, thereby spoiling their suspense. Surely, one can't be too careful on this board regarding the ending of NTTD. :D

Did you hear about the Titanic? I just read about it in my dentist's waiting room. Terrible news.

This comes down to financial support from companies such as Aston Martin. Still, it can get ridiculous trying to wedge in anything - a plot line, a character, a weapon, a location, a vehicle - if it does not fit the story !

Wherever the DB5 goes I want to be there.

    September for me it's Chicago.

Thanks @RichardTheBruce ; just sent my wife the link. I think we will definitely make a weekend in Chicago out of it!

I am now of the opinion that every car model that has be used previously in the films needs to go. This even includes my beloved favorite Bond car:

    8-> Nope, nope. All gone.

I'm still down with having Aston Martins, but different models.

The DB5 doesn't have to be a Bond car in the next film. Just a nod is fine.

I could imagine Bond and a colleague sitting at an outside cafe. Across the street is another outdoor cafe and close by a DB5 is parked. Bond's colleague notices Bond has been staring across the street.
    Colleague: "Nice car."
    Bond: "Hmm? What?"
Colleague: "You've been staring at it for five minutes."
Bond: "I'm looking at the girl in the cafe."

I think the DB5 was overused in the Craig films, and needs to be left to have a rest.
Possibly for the entire run of the next actors tenure. Nothing to stop it making an appearance down the track, but for now, it needs to go.

They couldn’t, but Q could, and did, and gave Bond a little tsk tsk verbal slap to the wrist for good measure!

Haven we ever been given a reason why MI-6 keeps spending untold sums on rebuilding Bond's car?

No, but then we have also never been given a reason why MI6 would spend a million or more for every nonsensical late-model Aston Martin either, which typically sticks out like a sore thumb among normal vehicles. The only recent Bond car - disregarding the "gadgets" - that was in any way realistic was the 7-series from TND, a totally normal sedan in Hamburg traffic which would have allowed Bond to blend in. But then, nothing much else is realistic about the franchise either, and we don't expect a semi-documentary spy procedural, do we?

Chaps, let's not forget how Q won all those millions for his prototypes fair and square.

Yes, there was someone on another forum who suggested that it might be fun if Q Branch had run out of money in the next films and Bond had to pay for his expensive things himself, and I thought that kind of missed the point of the Bond films a bit. Excessive luxury with no concern about where the money is coming from is kind of part of the DNA. Indiana Jones lives on a shoestring and it's great, but not 007.

Interestingly, in John Gardner's Licence Renewed Bond actually pays for the gadgetry modifications for his Saab 900 Turbo himself. Gardner mentions that Q Branch was rather jealous of the "gee-whizz" technology Bond had kitted the Saab out with and were trying to get a handle on how it was done. I suppose it reflected Gardner's attempt to bring realism to Bond's adventures and explain how Bond could have the latest hi-tech gadgetry at a time when Britain was in recession and the public sector was watching its spending. It might be fun in a future film to see Q peeking in the window of Bond's car to see what it was kitted out with and Bond shooing him away. I agree that it might take a bit of the fun out of Bond's adventures though by showing too much behind the curtain.
