I'd've thought it was pretty straightforward why Ireland was off-limits to Bond for a long time, tbh. Even now, it'd probably still be problematic to show an agent of the British State defeating an organisation of Irish bad guys, so I don't think EON will go that route any time soon.

@007HallY There is much in London that is not appealing, but I suspect that is true of all cities. Personally, I don't find London a horrid city.

It'd be nice to see Bond in the Antarctic; I'd echo that call.

Add me to this list too…

Me three. Maybe take some inspiration from Icebreaker.

I envy you. It's not an uninteresting city to be fair.

Anyway, as I said, I like when it's depicted in that ever so unflatteringly light with Bond. That greyness, that slight sense of coldness hammers home Bond's relationship with the city in the novels/films, at least ideally.

The bad guy doesn't have to be Irish, though. Bond could only be in Ireland because he's tailing the villain through there, like how he intercepted Patrice in Shanghai.

    Or like Kamal in Octopussy.

What types of classic/stereotypical Bond scenes do we want to see back? I can name two immediately…

    - a dark, noir(ish) Hitchcockian sequence like the one where Grant is stalking Bond from the train in FRWL. More of that!

    - a ski chase (We are long overdue)

I would like to see more emphasis put on spying and espionage over just action. Bugs, false passports, secret codes, cover names, extortion, etc. I'd like to see Bond get dressed all in black again to silently infiltrate a secure building.

I'd also like Bond to have a bit more class next time around. Get him back in English suits for a start, and have more of the lifestyle moments; Bond commenting on wine, food, etc.

@George_Kaplan Speaking of suits. I absolutely did not like that wrinkled beige mess Craig wore to visit Vesper's tomb. Most likely it was a designer outfit, but it looked cheap and unflattering. Craig has done casual much better than that.

I too would like to see Bond the connoisseur again.

Heaps of classic Bond scenes, like the hotel room bug sweep, disguises, night time stalking, ski chase, scuba action, dinner with the villain, henchwoman, Bond playing sport.

I agree, just be careful with who you put the code names with, Franz. EON shouldn’t be calling Goldfinger, Mr. Money as a cover name.

I would love the next Bond film to start with some sneaky Bond, him all in black, alone in the field trying to avoid detection.
Some of my favourite PTS's have that in common, Goldfinger, The Living Daylights and Goldeneye.

Yes I was pretty disappointed with NTTD sartorially. It kind of looked like Craig went into a room full of Italian designer stuff and picked out what he liked without considering if it was right for the character. That long corduroy coat he wore in Norway was a particularly strange choice. Seemed more appropriate for a western.

Agreed. With the exception of the MI6 and Belmarsh scenes, I thought NTTD got it wrong with Craig's clothes. The Matera cemetery/chase outfit and the Norway duster were particular misfires for me. I know Dan will have had input, but it's probably not a coincidence that NTTD had a different costume designer. I hope it was a one-time job for her, tbh - I saw an interview with her and she was really approachable, friendly, helpful, gave plenty of insight, etc, but I just really disliked like her choices and wouldn't want to see more.

To be fair there have been some odd fashion choices in many of the films. Personally I find things like Lazenby's frilly ruffled tuxedo shirt or Moore's flared trousers much more strange.

Also, one thing I've noticed about Craig's Bond films is that he wore braces quite a lot with a number of his Bond outfits (for Americans/Canadians these are straps that go over your shoulder and are attached to the trousers - I think they're called suspenders over there). It's something that always stood out to me as other Bonds don't tend to wear them (the only exception I can think of is Dalton with his tuxedo in TLD, but even then he often wears his jacket over them), and Craig not only seemed to wear them quite a lot as Bond, but also when he played Benoit Blanc. I do wonder if that was a personal preference Craig had over a belt that was incorporated when he had his costume fittings.

Mind you, Dan's sporting something uncomfortably close to beige flares when he gets off the helicopter on his return from Miami in CR - now those pants were weird, man!

For me, at least what I've found strange and un-Bondian looking in their outfits:

Actually Dalton's suits are both also strange looking to me, not spy looking, and Bond in the books was also a fine dresser, but with Dalton's suits, they looked like an 80's Action Police would've likely to wear, yes, sorry here folks, but more like something out of Miami Vice, especially in that scene with Pushkin in his hotel, that's strange or when he's in the Hemingway house in LTK.

Brosnan's suits are more like those of the executives, more like corporate, doesn't looked Bondian either.

Even Connery's outfit in DAF PTS when he dispatched Blofeld, that's kinda strange looking, and of course, who could've forget the pink tie? 😅

In Craig's tenure, what I've found the most strange in his outfits was the Polo Shirt he'd wore in Skyfall, that looked out of place for him.
Actually, the Madagascar polo shirt in CR was too unfit too, Idk, it looked funny for me, he's wearing that Red Polo Shirt, that's not just fitting for me.

And in NTTD, now that's in the different league of being strange (outfit wise).

I thought Dalton's shawl-collar dinner jacket was cool.

Appreciably going off topic quite a bit here, but yes Bond’s wardrobe in NTTD is all over the place. It’s not as consistently strong as QoS through Spectre.

    Hits
    - Blue Connolly Gubbino from Matera
    - Jamaica Tommy Bahama
    - Garage RGT Jacket and Jeans
    - MI6 Tom Ford PoW Check Suit
    - N Peal Tactical Jumper Outfit

    Misses
    - Matera Massimo Alba Sloop Suit (just urgh)
    - Jamaica Sailing Outfit (too small)
    - Cuba Tom Ford Tuxedo (its nothing special)
    - Blofeld Interrorgation Tom Ford Suit
    - Norway Outfit with Massimo Alba Trench Coat
    - Henley and Braces Tactical Outfit

The suits are my concern when it comes to him, no problem with the dinner jacket/tuxedos, but the suits.

It's also my same problem with Pierce Brosnan, his suits.

I LOVE that outfit, along with the Sunspel navy Riviera top. To me this was the coolest Craig ever looked as Bond.

Yes, who can forget Connery's pink tie with the very wide Windsor knot (Fleming would have had a field day with that one) and white suit combo?

One of things I find interesting about Dalton's costumes is that there seemed to be less of an attempt to make him look 'trendy' in the way that was done with Moore, Connery and Lazenby (again, there are some very dated flares, frilly shirts, and light coloured suits in there). I suspect it was part of Dalton's attempt to play the character closer to the one from the novels, but you get much darker suits and more muted colours in his wardrobe. I suppose it makes sense - Fleming's Bond was a sharp albeit simple dresser, but it wasn't a sort of 'in vogue' fashion sense for the time necessarily (ie. he only seems to have two dark blue lightweight, single breasted suits even though heavier material and double breasted suits were more the trend back in the 50s).

It's tricky dressing Bond in these films. So much of it is intwined with brands and the trends of the time.

Just as well. At least Craig never wore this monstrosity in his films (speaking as someone who actually likes darker velvet tuxedo jackets):

Yeah I was watching it this weekend and it is hard not to notice those. What are they, boot cut or something? They're very odd.
It's a shame because the polo shirt is perfect.

The interesting thing about Dalton is, in Living Daylights he was cast so late in the day that they didn't have the time they usually have to make the suits for the actor playing Bond, so I think I'm right in thinking he's the only Bond to have worn off-the-rack suits. One of his dinner suits in TLD is actually from his previous film I think, Brenda Starr.

Bootcut, which was fairly trendy at that time. I had a few pair of Levis in bootcut back then. I still think they look cool now (but then I have a soft spot for retro looking stuff).

That's a really interesting thought; certainly his Blayden outfit is perhaps the least fashionable Bond had been for some time with all that tweed (although Pierce would give it a run for its money with his Alan Partridge-esque cravat and blazer looks in Monaco in GE :-& )
Dalt's looks in LTK have certainly always felt quite Fleming-inspired; especially his look in Key West at the beginning.

I made this record of The Living Daylights :)

I'd say it was more late 90s/very early 2000s, when men were wearing long sideburns and things. I thought it had gone by '06.

I think it's just because my memory of Craig's outfits in CR were that they were more tight fitting (which is probably more a feature of his later films). Honestly, I really like the casual wear that Bond has in that film.
