The man who will be the next Bond looks upon this thread with sadness, but knows that after everyone has had a refreshing libation, there can be optimism that healthy discussion is somewhere on the horizon...

Luke Evans would make a great Bond. If he was 5 years younger he'd be my top choice. The guy has a brilliant screen presence

Agreed, his age is a bit of an issue, but as Creasy said, even if he came in for just one, would be fantastic IMO.

    Marwan Kenzari

Worked with Guy Richie on Aladdin, so maybe they're a package deal? He's also in the current Black Adam movie.

Apologies if he's come up before/recently. He's 39 and technically Dutch, but he's been doing more English-American stuff. In regard to the last photo: I think he'd fill out a tux better today with his current muscle weight, that photo is old.

Maybe controversial but I actually loved the live action Aladdin. Way better than any of the other live action Disney adaptions... except maybe Jungle Book.

I could see it. Certainly seems to have the build and the killer's edge.

The first pic reminds me of Mo Salah lol.

EDIT: Just want to make clear I'm just having a little giggle at it and not trying to be nasty or put anyone's suggestions down :). I like his body but beyond that he doesn't really scream Bond to me. I've said to others privately that I think Sope has it for me right now but I love looking at the suggestions!

Sorry to belabour the subject but on the topic of live action Aladdin, let's get my celebrity crush Nasim Pedrad in a Bond film. Maybe Bond goes to Iran to take out a key figure in a regime they're trying to topple (ahem) and Pedrad plays an agent for the Iranian Secret Service (a quick Google says it's called SAVAK, which is awesome).

I think SAVAK is from the 70s or something. But I agree what a Bondian name!

Oh really? Fair enough, it was a very cursory Google search lol.

EDIT: Ah yeah it looks like it was dissolved in 1979. I wonder what they have now? Maybe she can be a SAVAK stay-behind? ;)

Hardly controversial to like a movie that made a billion dollars, that movie's success is the only reason I think Richie may actually still have a shot at directing Bond some day (not that I necessarily would request that).

I suppose, but Avatar also made a ton of money… and so did all those Star Wars sequels, and the Marvel films…
But I see your point. A lot of people went to see it. Anyways, it was awesome.

@LucknFate ... Why would I assume that anyone being mentioned as the next James Bond, would be a member here?

    Wouldn’t it be great though

Hm would it?. I'm an actor but don't even have an agent, though I have been acting for years, mainly theatre work.
I've never seen a member seriously dare to propose themselves as a candidate on here though!..

That's because this conversation isn't serious. 😉 I doubt any of us has a legitimate chance of ever being contacted by EON for an audition, although I could be mistaken.

It would be cool if they chose an actor who was unknown, and they turned out to be great for the part, and they just happened to also be a member here. ;)

Of course it's not very likely... lol

Hello all, I'm new to this thread but I'm curious...does anyone know what Broccoli and Wilson were saying about casting the next Bond after Brosnan was gone?

The reason I ask is that I've read varying accounts of how Broccoli had an eye on Craig for Bond since the late 90s (I think when he appeared in the film Elizabeth?). In her comments over these last few months, Broccoli has stated that it is "wide open" in casting the next Bond. Is that what she and Wilson were saying back then? Any chance it is a smoke screen and she has someone in mind now?

Also, they still went through the process of screen testing different actors for Casino Royale but Broccoli never wavered from Craig it seems.

Welcome to the forum! There were quite a few options back then for Bond. Many tested and genuine possibilities. As CR had been settled as B21 and a reboot in order they needed an actor who could play Bond at the beginning of his career, though still appear to be a veteran.
Big difference today, at least to me, is it really does seem all is up in the air......at least will until a script is greenlit and they're actually ready to recast.
At the moment, I really don't think Barbara and Michael are seriously considering anybody, though they're no doubt aware of all the suggestions made in the press.

Can't really help you, except that I remember a lot of silly speculation and some back-and-forth on Brosnan, long before the Craig penny finally dropped.

    1) The speculation
Okay, tons of names were dropped, including Julian McMahon, Ioan Gruffudd, and Clive Owen. Were they ever truly considered? No idea. Internet buzz was still a relatively young phenomenon back then. I am not at all sure that any of these actors were ever in serious talks with Broccoli and Wilson. At least I don't recall any statements made by them with regards to these and other names.

    2) The Brosnan case
If memory serves, there were some official statements about, and from, Brosnan. At times it seemed like it was a matter of money. Or they wanted him back but he refused. Or he was still available but Broccoli and Wilson weren't going with him anymore. Exactly which of these news bits, if any, were sent out by EON, I don't know.

We know now that Wilson wanted to do CR, badly, and since the rights had 'come home', he saw an opportunity to reboot James Bond, which automatically meant hiring a younger man. But, again, I have no recollection of any statements hinting at Craig before they officially announced him. (Didn't Craig's mom leak the news?) Then again, my memory circuits are a bit rusty sometimes. 😉

Thank you @ToTheRight (great name) and @DarthDimi for your responses.

To clarify, I vividly remember all the speculation surrounding the different actors up for the role back then (I was in my early 20s). I just can't remember if Broccoli and Wilson ever made any public statements or gave answers to questions about the search.

As for Brosnan, if memory serves correct both he and the producers agreed on exercising his option to do a 5th Bond film. However, after the negative reception for DAD and the positive reception for The Bourne Identity, the producers changed tracks. They now had the rights to Casino Royale and were more interested in starting over with someone younger. Brosnan said on the Everything or Nothing documentary that Broccoli simply called him and said "We don't know what to do..." and that is when he could see the writing on the wall. However, I think Broccoli knew what she wanted to do but didn't want to hurt Brosnan's feelings.

Elizabeth is indeed the film Ms Broccoli cites as first seeing Craig and thinking it could be him. Specifically a scene of him walking down a hallway with billowing robes. So if we take her at face value, that's how little is needed to at least get on the radar.

As for the timelining, it looks like Brosnan announced in February 2004 that he was no longer Bond and Craig of course was announced in October 2005. There is the strange little detail of Craig saying in an interview in May 2005 that MGM told him he had the part, but he never heard from Eon, so he assumed he'd be out of the running. That could all be misdirection on his part, of course.
Looking at the new film, if the quoted start for filming being summer 2024 is set in stone (which it obviously isn't at all), we'd probably get a director announcement in about half a year and an actor at the end of 23/beginning of 24. I'd assume they want to do a big announcement well in advance of the cast announcement event they do when principal photography starts.
As for the likelihood of that timeline: I still think they have to do a whole lot of behind the scenes grunt work only marginally related to the writing, directing and acting part before they get going. They need a shell company, they need to find a place to shoot (Pinewood is basically booked, isn't it?) and they need to sort MGW's and with that Eon's future out. Plus, MGM is in limbo as always. So I remain sceptical that a whole lot of news is coming in 2023.

It has happened before, so it's probable! I'm more of a researcher than a member lol... "We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps."

And with that, this playground is temporarily closed. We will be doing some talking behind the walls of this thread, remove the unpleasantness,
    and then reopen.

The playground is back open, with some simple caveats:

    - If you turn to personal attacks/name-calling/inciting arguments and baiting members, you'll get an official warning. If this continues, you're out of here.

    - And vice versa: if someone attacks you/calls you names/directs an argument at you or baits you and you choose to engage in the same way instead of ignoring, flagging and/or reaching out to a moderator, you will also be officially warned. If this continues, you're also out of here.

There's no reason why we can't discuss the possibilities of the future without turning nasty. This will be the only warning we're putting up about this. Hopefully we can keep discussions on track and mature enough to let this one stay open forever.

McGregor? Can't see it at all. He is rather bland to me and doesn't have the good looks of Roger, which made up for the lack of masculinity or even Pierce, who looked the part for many.

Clive Owen has THE perfect face for Bond IMO, but lacks expression, in short, he doesn't know, what to do with that face of his.
I would take McGregor over Owen. Even though I would take Lazenby over Moore, with him being dead and all...

I don't see him either, too young, same in the vein of Holland or Chalamet.

He (Garfield) needs to get matured enough, I could see him being similar to Brosnan's version of Bond.

40 or 50 years from now, when he doesn t need his pacifier anymore to stop him from crying, maybe.
