Did anyone genuinely believe the blu-ray would be open matte?

I didn't think they would but other high profile IMAX films (Nolan, BVS) have released with aspect ratio changes in the film. Maybe it'll be like BVS when in a few years they'll release an IMAX 4k of it.

    Maybe.

I don’t like those blu-ray titles because of the shifting aspect ratio.

The only one I’d be up for is a release for SKYFALL because at least that would be opened up from start to finish.

No worry, it probably will show up on IMAX on streaming (or fully opened up for the IMAX scenes and cropped for the rest).

Blu-ray.com has their reviews up for both the 4K and the blu-ray, with the former being infinitely better in quality (which, surprisingly, isn't always the case):

Same, been checking once or twice a day in hopes it'd drop sooner rather than later.

I'm hoping my 4K arrives in the mail by release day but Target has it listed as arriving the 22nd - 27th, which really sucks.

Best Buy has my steelbook currently listed as arriving on release day, so I'm hoping that holds firm so I can have it before Christmas! In my experience, even with the holiday season, Best Buy is pretty good with shipping things early enough to meet those dates.

I was going to go with that one but I really didn't care for the cover art. That inside imagery, though, is fantastic. I'd say screw it, cancel my Target order and go with that, but it'll be nearly $10 more and isn't even available to order now, simply listed as 'Coming Soon.' I'll just bite the bullet, save some money and hope Target doesn't screw me over. I've gotten pre-orders from them in the past that have arrived on time (if not early) so fingers crossed.

My delivery from amazon.de is also announced for December 16. As I haven't seen NTTD a second time since September 30, I'm looking forward to it.

My last viewing was in late October, so a two month break should be real eye-opening for a third viewing.

I'm with you on the cover art, but I decided in its favour to at least have another Bond steelbook for the collection. I wish the Target exclusive with the IMAX poster art was a 4K release instead of standard Blu-ray - that edition would have been a clear winner for me!

After the uninspired, cheap-looking yet pricier SP steelbook, I've gotten out of the steelbook collecting game. I don't look at them enough to justify the extra price, though I will shell out a bit more in rare instances if the cover art absolutely demands it. At the end of the day, I just want this movie on 4K and I want it as early as possible. I'm fine with the regular 4K cover-art, it's a good enough poster (but I do wish that Target exclusive edition came in 4K too, at least to get that art book).

My 4K says it’s supposed to be delivered on the 21st. Hope that’s the case because I’ve been wanting to see this again after only being able to watch it twice at the theater.

In the US here. Best Buy has my 4K steelbook still on "Pre-ordered: A release date for your pre-order has not been announced. We'll email you when it's ready."

Best Buy seems the only retailer without a release date listed.

Also I really hope it doesn't arrive damaged.

With how underwhelming the steelbook design is, I'd rather they have gone in this direction tbh

This would've been a lot better. I do love the inside cover art but the steelbook cover itself is pretty unimpressive and not worth the extra $5, I'd say. Got my standard 4K version in the mail yesterday and that's good enough for me.

So I got the 4K edition just for the being james bond documentary and it came on the 18th from Amazon so fairly early! What's really weird is that the blu-ray doesn't have any of the special features!! I can't play the 4K because I don't have a 4K Ultra HD player so this is really frustrating anybody else experiencing this problem?!

It seems some of the blu-ray editions are missing special features, for whatever reason that is. It could be because of the 4K edition being the only one with the features in a given set, but I've heard others picking up the Special Edition from Target and having a similar issue. Yet another bungled release in the special features department, it would seem.

I bought the german edition of the one with the booklet inside. I was surprised that the Craig documentary wasn't included. But this isn't a big issue for mem I've seen the documentary on TV and was a bit underwhelmed (good beginning but the rest was standard "Craig is so talented" bla bla; yes he is great but give me more background information please)

What I don't like about this booklet Bluray.: The cover doesn't feature the title on the side. This means that you can't read the movie when it is standing on the shelves...strange.

Yup. I just checked my 4K/Blu-ray combo. The blu-ray is barebones.

I assume the stand-alone blu-ray release are supposed to have the special features, but the copies that are supposed to be in the 4K sets were mistakenly put in those blu-ray releases.

This is actually the first I’ve heard of barebones blu-rays in 4K bundles. Typically, all Blu-ray discs are identical. I don’t know why Universal would go through the trouble of making two different Blu-ray discs.

Same here, can't say I've ever heard of this before. Pretty foolish of them to do. Not including an already recorded commentary is one thing but this is something else entirely.

First it look like USA be only one where Being James Bond doc going to mis with 2 disc BD , but there deside to change it. There was first backcover picture of 2 disc BD from a German release who confirmd that (Picture was later removed). All extra's are on 4K disc if you buy 4K/BD combo because 4K disc is 100 GB and feels as 2 BD's, you don't need extra disc. But i think it have been better to at that bonus disc too, even with extra's already be on 4K disc. Now the BD with movie is only at so people it in (difrent) BD player and for people who later whant to use 4K disc but already whant to see the movie like BD/DVD.

That there release BD/DVD combopack limited edition digibook in USA without bonus disc, that is very weird. There easly can have at bonus dvd from 2 disc dvd.

For Dutch release in February 2022 there first plan 1 disc BD (Movie with no extra's), 2 disc digibook limited Bol.com exclusieve include bonus disc and 4k 2 disc Steelbook (4K include extra's + BD with no extra's). Later there changed there minds and standard keepcase BD wil now be 2 disc BD. Also wil not include slipcover whyle in UK it get slipcover. Also DVD release wil be 2 disc set with extra's on dvd.

Later somewhere when Bond 26 going to be released i expect there take make new Bonus disc (name it updating the old bonus disc) with Being James Bond and more extra's and at this new created bonus disc with new disc 1 (with commentary) as new 2 disc DE (NEW BD+New Bonus disc) and also at to new 4K disc (with commentary) as new 3 disc DE (New 4K, New BD, New Bonus disc) and mabey 3 disc DVD.

With Casino Royale the name first DVD release also CE (Besides that there also release 1 disc release) and then in 2008 before release of QOS there release new 3 disc DVD Deluxe Edition with update disc 1, old disc 2 with new disc art and new bonus disc as disc 3 (with same subs as disc 2). At same time 2 disc DE BD with extra's.

In France, NTTD won't be out before february 16th 2022. Reasons are the regulations regarding the number of months before a movie is available in DVD/Blu-Ray after it finishes its career in the theaters. But some stores have it already on import. I've seen it last week, but I will wait for the french edition (or the complete 25 movies set, if and when it's out).

Good stuff, @M_Balje, thanks for laying all of that out. It’s funny because the film’s special features are already incredibly lacking and barebones, so the fact they’re included in a “Collector’s Edition” (a laughable enough buzzword for a rather standard release) but removed from certain blu-rays is all the more bizarre.

I bought a copy of the 2-disc Collector's Edition NTTD Blu-ray tonight from Tesco for a £13 Clubcard price, down from the £15 usual price. So not too bad price wise for a newly released Blu-ray. They had DVD and 4K copies too which I might try to pick up later but the Blu-ray will do for now. I have to say that I was rather disappointed to see that the Being James Bond Craig era retrospective was not available on the Blu-ray or DVD versions of NTTD but only on the 4K version. Now I know they're obviously trying to push the 4K version but I thought that was rather mean spirited of them, especially as most people still don't have that technology. Luckily I have seen the documentary on ITV when it was shown, but still...

I still have to write up my long-awaited review of NTTD so having a physical copy of the film to analyse should help further crystallise my views on it! :)

No, there are on the second special features disc, just not the Being James Bond documentary unfortunately. You have to get the 4K to get that as well, at least in the UK.

Ohhhhh, I didn’t realize the blu-ray release is a two disc set (a third disc being DVD). Now it makes sense.

Anyway, looks like the iTunes digital copy does not have special features. The previous 24 films have special features.
