Where would you rank SPECTRE? (no spoilers)

    To extend @talos7 's point perhaps, they basically had too much to use for Spectre: the clean slate, Blofeld and Spectre, and also the fact that they had already competently set up Quantum as the new Spectre and Mr. White as the new Blofeld. If they had taken their time over a two to three film arc (Craig's Blofeld Trilogy, perhaps?) they could have used all of these things in concert together to tell a great story. Instead, they crammed all of these things into a single film, as well as tried to make it a sendoff to Craig, and it collapsed under the weight of it's own hubris.

    Wow- just reading the beginnings of this thread when Spectre was released: people on this forum were ECSTATIC about the film, many ranking SP in their top 5 Bond films.

    For me, I have Spectre hovering around 10 or so in my rankings. I’m certainly not a fan of trying to tie together the Craig films, or the whole broFeld thing. However, when you remove your own bias/emotion, it’s quite a fun romp. So much potential wasted, but somewhere in that mess there’s a pretty decent film. I would love to see a re-edit one day where they just cut it down by 15-20 mins - remove the whole “author of your pain” BS and the overlong ending. There’s a good film hiding in there somewhere amongst the bloat...

    It is interesting to look back and see how enthusiastic we were! Personally i had it at number 7...it now resides at 15!!. Big fall.
    But I still enjoy a watch of SP, scenes that i originally liked, i still do!

    I had it in my top 10 when it came out, but it's long settled around the #14 slot, sandwiched comfortably between LTK and QOS. Haven't seen it in a couple of years though... been waiting for NTTD's release to catch up with it just before going to the cinema.

    I can perfectly understand why lot of people here kinda hate it, on the other hand.

    Upon release it was right in the middle for me, but over the last couple years it's shockingly risen to the top spot.

    None of the frequently alleged flaws bother me anymore, not even Brofeld, but I do see why they can put people off. For me I just love it because they nailed the tone I was hoping to eventually see after Casino Royale as EON tiptoed back toward Bond movies that feel like Bond movies.

    And at the end of the day, the biggest thing for me with Spectre is that I just love every scene. If I go to the fridge or toilet while watching, I have to pause it. The film may be less than the sum of its parts, but I sure love the parts. Even sort of weaker scenes, like the C stuff, still has greatness in the frame. In the case of C, it's having the incredible Ralph Fiennes around.

    Thats it really. Despite its flaws, it still feels more like a Bond movie than SF!
    Theres a lot that could have been done better, and a shorter running time.....but you could say that about a lot of Bond movies!

    SPECTRE gets lower and lower each time I watch it.

    It started at #15 when it came out. Now it's like 21. Wouldn't be surprised if it falls to 23.

    Spectre falls into my “flawed but I love it and has many great moments” tier along with FYEO, TND, and TB. Roughly smack in the middle of my rankings.

    Spectre is mid.

    As in somewhere in the middle of the last and 3rd last place.
