Thank you TWANEpod for being a more realistic observer of 25 years of Bond teaser posters:

No thank you to those fans whose 'craftmanship', is now in part responsible for all the media backlash. Over a teaser poster no less. This is what you get if you dwell in 'trusted' sources, knowing for certain a trailer is imminent, only resulting in backlash from the same fans if it's only a teaser poster that's being released on Global James Bond Day. Again, with so many wannabe 'Bond producers' at the helm, the Bond Fandom is quickly turning into the same negative, dire group of anti-ambassadors that the Star Wars Fandom is.

Not really; some of us are just interested in design. It's okay if you're not.

And even it they're not; there's no reason to be dicks about it. If there was no analysis, there'd be no thread. Most of the critiques have been pretty fair, I would say - from both sides. A nice change; arguments mostly in good faith.

However, it seems certain egos are unable to handle not being amongst the majority opinion and repeatedly wish for that majority opinion to simply cease because they don't like it.
I really like the teaser poster. The level of analysis is beyond obsessive. A bit sad really. I think this film will set the bar for future installments. I have faith in Cary and company.

    Indeed.

Case in point. You might think you're trying to promote a positive atmosphere but the truth is you really don't come out of it looking very well.

(I also have faith in Fukanaga and co. The film looks great so far. However the teaser poster, as a piece of work itself, is fair game for criticism in a POSTER THREAD.)

I don't really understand what this tirade is about. 'Media backlash'?

It's a slightly weak poster. No one is saying that the film will be awful as a result or that James Bond Died Today. It seems to me that the folk criticising the poster have a good sense of perspective*; those who see fit to criticise those people... not so much.

*Apart from anyone who says it looks like a five year old learning to use photoshop or any derivative of that! I'm not onboard with that :)

There's nothing wrong with any of the members here, who are for or against this teaser poster.
I don't see too much in the way of hostility towards other members. If there is, then please flag said posts. We're not all going to love all aspects of Bond. And if a teaser poster is enough to send anyone over the edge, then a Bond forum is maybe not the best place for them.
I have no issue with the poster. But I clearly understand why people do.

I dunno; I think it's definitely a shame to lose the blue: it's really striking. Works with the gold, too.

Agreed. This one loses what makes the poster standout in anyway and keeps what I personally dislike about it.

To be honest I almost wonder how it would look as per the front cover of the Skyfall making of book: a big slab of solid blue behind Bond with no detail at all. Nice and bold, like the type.

For what it's worth, a HQ version of the poster (2700x4000)

Not really. The 007 logo is still the iconography of the franchise even if this film has the position filled by someone else :)

  • Everyone complaining about the NTTD poster needs to understand that in films like QR, and QoS, Craig's defining feature of Bond was displayed. He's not the type to parody the character.

The pose on this poster is similar to what you would find in Fast and Furious 7 with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker in the pics.

The light blue background of an old wall looks like a remnant from what you would find in an abstract/independent Danny Boyle film.

There is a bit of indie-film in each of the better Bond films. You'll never find that anywhere in the forgettable ones which don't age well with time.

I'll happily take this over the Quantum teaser. I found that to be such a letdown after the outstanding Casino Royale teaser poster. Otherwise this is in line with what we got for Skyfall and SPECTRE - a glorified still shot of Bond. I know it's a coincidence because of the logo placement, but I do like how the "007" ends up being right over Bond's heart. How symbolic!

(I say in jest of course).

It's infinitesimal meta analysis that's just ludicrous. It amazes me that people harp on about such crazily minute details. I dissect aspects, but some people border on insanely small things. It's like pointing out that Roger Moore's shoelaces were 1 millimetre shorter on his left shoe as he walked through Paris in A View To A Kill. It's odd.

Yeah, those two examples aren't remotely comparable and such behavior cannot be surprising whatsoever on a forum dedicated to the world of Bond, no matter how minuscule the topic or conversation may be.

The Quantum one was ultra naff, it's true. It wanted to be stylish but it just looked a bit cheap.

Is it actually like that or are you being ridiculous? It's a poster for a James Bond film, this is a James Bond film forum. There's a massive auction of Bond posters happening very soon, the whole thing will probably net the owners something in the tens of thousands. Why don't you tell them that they're 'ludicrous' for being interested in that? It may be a shock to learn that some folk have different interests to you, but there it is.
Why not ruminate on the fact that some of us actually do this sort of thing for a living and have a professional opinion? What do you do for a job, by the way? Can I tell you you're wasting your time at that?

And it's not like shoelaces, no. Although some folks are very interested in the outfits Bond wear and, y'know what? They're perfectly allowed to. Because you'd have to be a special kind of miserable, nasty person to object to someone having an interest which doesn't harm you in any way whatsoever. So please, if you still don't understand it and you can't bring yourself to respect other people who share an interest of yours but only in a marginally different way, keep it to yourself.

    Excellent post.

Thanks @DrClatterhand . And you know what? I myself may sound negative too to others sometimes. But then there's some basis in it, I'm doing some research on it and write a lengthy article about it with arguments based on facts (like the finances and the business model behind the franchise).

But this is something else. We are putting a teaser poster under a....guillotine. Really? A t.e.a.s.e.r. Yes this is a forum, and I understand it's a big melting pot and all that. But I stay with my opinion that our 'fandom' is indeed turning as dark and negative as those Star Wars weirdo's...who manage to turn an actress into tears on the red carpet because they disagree with her role. Really? There are times I'm longing to the more organized societies of the past, when there was no Twitter and all other sorts of social media.

Can't argue with that last point, but @GertGettler, out of curiosity, who did the SW fans made cry on the red carpet? Never heard of it.

I hope for the main poster, we get a poster with all the main players. A proper James Bond official poster with Bond at the centre, with cool images of our new/old characters. It can still be simple and minimalistic if they prefer, but there's many ways you could incorporate the rest of the cast like they used to. Again I'm still a fan of our new teaser poster, I think it does the job, but the next one needs to be more representative of the film as a whole :)

It was Kelly Marie Tran who performed Rose Tico in "Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi". You just had to read some of the comments on the biggest Star Wars forum. It was actually disgusting and truly a step too far. It brought Ms Tran to tears, she even wrote a short letter to director Rian Johnson, who equally was despised by the fans (for continuously supporting her). If we, as Bond fans, become like that, then I hope some now guidelines will be adopted:

    itUE1jm.jpg

Free speech is one thing. But being responsible with words need to go hand in hand with free speech again more often. Let's hope Lashana Lynch does not get the 'Kelly Marie Tran'-treatment next April. Regardless of our criticism, let's not become bullies. Seeing all the critical comments, opinionated or not, I wonder how the actual designer of the teaser poster thinks about all this. I prefer to back, support the designer who made the official teaser poster. Sometimes supporting 'the elite' ain't all that to get back to more civilized debate and respect for those working their buts off on designing official imagery of the franchise.

Oh come on. The Tran attacks were disgusting, inexcusable, offensive comments. Here we are talking about an uninspired poster and people are legitimately free to say that is awful without someone that consistently try to make them look like some kind of potential bad weirdo because that’s ridiculous.

But I share your concerns regarding Lynch and hopefully she won’t get the Tran treatment.
