I am pretty sure Malek is Blofeld. He had plastic surgery on his face, skin, hips and personality to go from Waltz to Rami.
    Lord have mercy.

Most stuff on the surface - cast, cars, locations, etc. have all looked very good. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little worried about the story details after what we got the last film. Hopefully something surprising in a good way.

There could be many other reasons. For example to prevent that he spills the beans.
Besides we know that there are twists. Maybe the "kidnapped" scientist is working with Malek all along. Would certainly be a typical thing for Dencik, who's used to playing a turncoat.

Indeed. They couldn't have found many actors that fits the bill playing clever yet treacherous characters as much as David Dencik does. If he turns out being a bad guy, I wouldn't be surprised at all. I'd actually be a bit surprised if he doesn't play a turncoat!

A Bond villain (or any cinematic bad guy or woman), with a strong agenda, only kidnaps a person with scientific knowledge for a very good and specific reason. Simple as that.

Cloning, in the current stage of it, still very much feels like a sci-fi element and I'm not sure I want that introduced in a Bond film. It also opens up a whole can of worms. The producers must know that a vast majority of the audience would reject it; that Bond doesn't play in the Marvel universe. The facial transplant thing from DAD was mocked; this would be worse. We're not ready for this yet, not at all.

Hear hear! Words of wisdom from @DarthDimi.

I have been wondering if they are going to go this route since Malek was announced. Maybe they may even go for a double fake-out with Waltz Blofeld in jail, who had secretly cloned himself and changed his appearance sometime in the past.

How about cloning Bond while we're at it?

The pretitles begins with bond looking for the murderer of Madeleine, finds (waltz) Blofeld at a clinic, undergoing genetic change into Malek, Bond drowns him in one of the hotpools. Later in the movie there are at least two Maleks. Bond kills one with a cat that doesnt have a leather studded collar while the other Malek dresses in drag and gets in a car. Yeah I think face change/cloning will work.

Yes, but that reason is not limited to acquisition of knowledge. There could be other motives.

If Blofeld was going to clone anything, obviously it would be that bloody cat. It almost got blown to pieces in SP, couldn't have has one true companion hit the dust.

Have we suddenly descended into the smelly sewers of television soap series? Unless people are joking about this, I'm sure we can all agree that cloning and more secret relatives are NOT where we want to take the next film. Facial transplants I can handle. Somewhat. Not a big fan but okay. Other than that though, pleaaaaase don't let this insanity ruin the next Bond film. Please!

I’m not crazy about the idea of cloning being a plot element, but the Bond films have frequently been a step ahead when it comes to technology. Cloning may seem like science fiction but it’s not; the cloning of animals is done frequently and human cloning is absolutely in our grasp, if it hasn’t already been done.

I agree. I think, if Malek's character is experimenting with human cloning, it will be handled in a smart and realistic way. We won't be back in MR or DAD territory; they will make it fit with Craig's Bond. I love The Boys from Brazil, both the film and the Ira Levin novel, and, even though that was way back in the '70's, the filmmakers approached the cloning premise in a very sure footed, scary and (within context) plausible way.

I was thinking of the Boys from Brazil as well.

So with a composer all but confirmed? How soon would he begin working on Bond 25? Following which when would a teaser trailer hit our screens?

They’re, for the most part, unrelated. There are companies that specialize in creating trailers. More often than not the director, composer, etc. are not involved.

I’m still not convinced it’s a young Madeleine. Firstly, Malek was on set in Norway and I have trouble reconciling him being in a flashback.

Why is that? We've touched on it quite a bit above. If this is a flashback that shows events that occurred in the late 90's, Malek's character would be roughly 20 years old. If you look at pictures of him through the years, he looks virtually the same at nearly 40.

It doesn’t add up to me. Especially given the pursuit we’ve seen. Like you say, Occam’s Razor.

Malek's character is, as far as we can make out from the few details we have, exploiting illegal genetic experiments and I suspect the girl (the Madeleine look-a-like) has something to do with that - after all it seems the child is the target in the ice-lake house assault. Just a guess, but I don't think, like RC7, she's Swann's daughter, but they cast a young girl to resemble her... join the dots.

So, SPECTRE gets its hands on cloning technology and they decide to use it to clone...Madeleine Swann?

    Of course! Madeleine Swann!

i don't think Arnold was ever the problem. Unless it was his decision reduce one of the series most iconic elements (and one of the most iconic movie themes).

This is incredibly exciting. That V8 really suits Craig. It's amazing to see him back in action, it's as if no time at all has passed since 2015.

Totally agree about the V8. Its just one of the coolest Aston Martins.

It is, but I just can't see it and not see Dalton. If they wanted him in a classic car rather a new one then there are plenty of options that could have been cool (personally I think it's a crime that we've never had Bond in an E Type, or if it has to be an Aston why not one of those big beefy 90s vantages?) without coming across as "hey guys, remember this?". The tweet says it all really. "First seen in a Bond film in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS". All caps. Look at us guys. Remember this? That was a good film wasn't it.

I know how you feel. It's the car of Dalton:Bond.

But i'm looking at it from the view of it being a sort of acknowledgement of the Dalton era. When GE acted like TLD and LTK didn't happen ('9 years ago' oh how convenient), I like to think that the V8 Vantage appearing in Bond#25 is making up for that.

    Here’s my two theories.

    Bond and Madeline get married.

    She dies.

    Bond moves to Jamaica.

Felix comes to find Bond claiming she’s alive.

    He has to save her.

MI6 has the new black female agent. They bring Bond in saying he’s retired he’s a civilian and to stay out of this.

Bond obviously doesn’t stay out of it... Full license to kill type story. He’s doing this off the books.

    Second theory. (Most likely).

Flashback to Madeline killing Rami Maleks father. Blofeld tells Malek who killed his father and they kill Madeline. Bond being Bond manages to kill most of his men but Malek escapes.

The CIA shows up. They say “Okay you want revenge, you are retired this is off the record, we will give you the resources to kill Malek.”

Cue kidnapped scientist + evil genetic warfare plot.

Bond just wants to kill Malek he doesn’t care about anything else and is racking up a body count.

MI6 has the female agent on the case and they are working against Bond.

Bond eventually teams up with Q, Moneypenny and the female agent.

Ending, Bond drifting away on a raft/boat with either Ana or the female agent.

Whilst the cloning speculation may seem like sci fi and too far fetched, the truth is cloning is actually a lot more common than we might think.

    https://7news.com.au/the-morning-show/couple-spends-35000-to-clone-their-deceased-cat-c-192468

If people can clone their pets, it's not too far to stretch the imagination to wonder what an organisation like SPECTRE might do, or be capable of.

Absolutely @MajorDSmythe -- always hated that. Disrespectful. Dalton was a tad too angry for my taste, BUT, he's perhaps top three-- he went back to the source material and took it seriously... To ignore what he brought to his two films (with more command than his successor), is a black-mark on the series, IMHO.

Regarding the possible cloning element of the story, I’m surprised I haven’t seen a mention of Agent Under Fire. The 2001 Bond video game featured a villain’s plot to kidnap the members of the G8 Summit, replace them with clone replicants that would do her bidding, and effectively take control of the world. I certainly don’t expect a plot this far fetched to make it into an actual movie, but it shows this isn’t the first time the Bond universe has dealt with cloning... and Cary is a fan of video games.

Oh my god, I almost forgot that was the AUF storyline! I’ve been sitting here wondering why this whole cloning plot (if that’s the route the film chooses to go) sounded familiar, and not at all weird. I wouldn’t mind the cloning angle, as long as it’s not leaning too far into sci-fi territory. If done right, it could be good!

While I’m willing to entertain the possibility that the young girl being chased is a clone, I actually still think that the sequence is a flashback, the girl is Swann. and one of her pursuers , whom she shoots and scars, is Malek’s character .?

I don’t recall if anyone has.
One of the main bits that has lead people to think that it’s Madeline is that the casting call specifically included that the actress should resemble Léa Seydoux.
But, your idea did make me think, what if the girl is not his daughter but the product of the kidnapped scientist experiments? 🤔

Yes. It is the most reasonable explanation for all of this.

If she is indeed Madeleine's daughter, it may not change the fact that Malek's character is after her father. It only begs the question of why. It is quite possible that fans everywhere are assuming that the "kidnapped scientist" is also involved with the dangerous technology. He may not be. Read carefully:

Recruited to rescue a kidnapped scientist, globe-trotting spy James Bond finds himself hot on the trail of a mysterious villain who's armed with a dangerous new technology.

I foresee a scenario in which Bond is called into action because Madeleine has been killed and now learns that her ex (a scientist of acclaim) and daughter have been taken and used as ransom. On the surface, that is the simple side of the plot. Turns out (per EONs description) the villain is involved in more nefarious matters.

I'm sure this is closer than the cloning idea, although I wonder if Madeleine actually dies in the pre title sequence as everyone is assuming. At the end of Spectre she wanted to walk away as she didn't want that life (only to be dragged back by Blofeld). The rumoured DB5 car chase sequence might come as a warning to her and Bond and they decide to split. This means we wouldn't have yet another dead woman on Bond's hands, and he can still go about the film behaving like Bond, yet still be a little wounded about having had to split from someone he cared about. Remember in the Norway sequence with the Toyota there is a stuntwoman with the man and a girl who could be doubling for Madeleine.

Why would Madeleine and her family be involved at all?

Could be either she was unlucky enough to marry a scientist who works on a new technology that can be dangerously manipulated (a stretch, but then Spectre....), or even after splitting from Bond she is still identified as a way to inflict pain on him.

Other point I would make is how would the film end if the cloned Madeleine is saved, but the real one is dead? Does Bond take her to Scotland and raise her as his daughter??? Jane Bond Jr perhaps......

There is none per-se,i just mentioned it a few pages back as a suggestion re Bond capturing Blofeld.
