I vote for henchmen or villain's death. We just need to ensure that the voting starts at a smaller number. 77 was a bit extreme.

Henchman for me. With Bond girls and villains done, its a logical choice.

    @jobo has a good point!
  • It looks henchman's the favorite to replace whichever one ends first. Any objections?

Take it easy man! Almost twenty people voted last time if I don't remember incorrectly. Let's leave it for a while... one day at least...

Fair enough. Maybe I should have said "early favorite".

I would like Henchman and Title sequences as well.

For -2, +1 votes, it would make sense to start with at least 50. -2 can lead to some very early eliminations without everyone having time to weigh in. I thought 77 was fine, though perhaps a little excessive. Everyone knew LALD and DAF were going for down for the inevitable bottom 2. But if we only started with 10 or 20, there could easily be eliminations before a 24 hour period which would not give everyone in the world an even chance at seeing and partaking.

Here are the votes so far. Feel free to copy, paste, and edit it as more votes come in, if I'm not online before voting concludes.

    Henchmen - IIII
    Villain's Death - I
    Gunbarrels - I
    Main Titles - II

It seems like the rule of thumb is let the game host decide. I would suggest doing it by character so Jaws counts as 1. However, does Wint and Kidd count as 1? Are we doing a limit on henchmen per movie or only the major ones. A lot of little nick nacks (pun intended!) for the host to decide over.

Logically I would use this as the template for a Henchmen elimination game.

    1. Professor Dent.
    2. Undecide. (For me personally I'd insist on Red Grant or Klebb.)
    3. Oddjob.
    4. Fiona.
    5. Hans.
    6. Irma Bunt.
    7. Wint and Kidd. (They work as a single unit. A duo of Murder.)
    8. Teehee.
    9. Nick Nack.
    10. Jaws.
    11. Chang.
    12. Kreigler.
    13. Gobinda.
    14. Mayday.
    15. Necros.
    16. Dario.
    17. General Ourumov.
    18. Stamper.
    19. Renard.
    20. Zao.
    21. Another Undecided since there were many. I'd leave that up to the one who leads that game.
    22. Elvis.
    23. Patrice.

To be honest @Birdleson, she slipped my mind completely. I haven't watched GoldenEye or any Bond film for that matter in about a year. I agree with you about Xenia.

As for FRWL we could go with Kronsteen since he's the man behind the plan.

CR...Is the most difficult. LeChiffre is the main villain for sure, but so many arguments could be pulled towards the names you mentioned But I'd lean towards Mr. White. He pretty much oversaw everything. Mollaka, Dimitrios and Carlos to me feel like disposable pawns rather than full blown henchmen, but that's what makes it so complex.

Main titles, soundtracks, and set designs intrigue me the most.

If you do go with henchmen next, I think Red Grant has to be chosen for From Russia With Love. I've never seen him as anything but the henchman and am still scratching my head over why he appeared in the main villain competition when Rosa Klebb is clearly his superior/the Emilio Largo type in SPECTRE.

For Casino Royale, I'm not sure I would categorize any of those three (Mollaka, Dimitrios, Carlos) as a henchman in the traditional sense. For some reason, they felt more like what I would describe as supporting villains/antagonists, perhaps because we see so little of a connection between any of them and Le Chiffre (though Le Chiffre and Dimitrios do get a scene together). I guess it wouldn't really matter who makes it though; I don't think any stand much of a chance against the "titans." ;)

Would Mischka and Grischka or Baron Samedi qualify? Of all the "secondary" henchmen, they strike me as the biggest contenders. At least on par with Moonraker's Chang, I'd say.

First of all, my vote goes to the Henchman Game.

Some alterations I'd like to make to @Murdock's list.

    2. FRWL: I would say Grant. I'm still at loss about Rosa Klebb's omission from the villain game.

    5. YOLT: I would use Helga Brandt, as she fits the femme fatale role and has much more screen time than Hans (who basically has a short fight with Bond, and that's it).

    21. CR: I would let the host decide which of the three (Mollaka, Dimitrios and Carlos) to use. Mr White has few scenes.

I suppose an argument could be made for Emile Leopold Loque as well, for For Your Eyes Only.
  • Since we didn't do Klebb for the main villains game, we should put her in the henchman game; there's no sense leaving her out. Dimitrios also seems like the best choice for CR.

    I vote for main titles.

Agree that whoever came up with the +1/-2 voting system deserves a Nobel Prize. Or at the very least a statue erected. Start with 50 points the next time though, if the method is copied. Some people are tired of these games.

Henchmen need be physical I think. They battle Bond on a physical level.
Jaws and Oddjob being the two iconic, most recognizable henchmen, not to mention arguably most formidable, almost superhuman, unlike the others.

With that in mind, I'd go with Grant for FRWL, the forerunner of the Aryan Grant-knockoffs that would follow eg Hans, Kriegler, Necros, Stamper.

I'd go with Hans for YOLT. Helga is femme fatale.
Onatopp for GE obviously, she is as physical as any male that Bond battles.

I think we could reasonably exclude DN. I don't think Dent qualifies as Henchman. He's bad but not terribly threatening. He is not physical.

CR is lacking as well. A lot of bad dudes but none that fit henchman. Closest might be Clemens Schick as Kratt, Le Chiffre's right hand thug, but he doesn't engage Bond in battle. He's more of a threatening presence. He is henchman but he never engages Bond.

QoS has no strong candidate. Elvis is closest as Greene's right hand, but he doesn't engage or threaten Bond.

But Kratt and Elvis do qualify. They do play henchman roles.

I'd been inclined to leave out DN for lack of a suitable candidate, other than maybe Milton Reid as Dr No's guard foreshadowing his future 2nd banana, henchman role as Sandor in TSWLM.

Fiona in TB doesn't engage Bond physically (not in a violent way at least ;) ) but she is a killer bent on his destruction, but so is Helga in YOLT. They are both killer femme fatale, but minus threatening physicality.
I'd be inclined to go with Vargas instead. He is most formidable of Le Chiffres henchmen, and Bond does eventually have to put a spear in him.
Like Hans, he is more henchman like.

OHMSS, I'd go with Grunther. He fits henchman mode moreso than Bunt who is more partner in crime.
Tracy does have to battle him and he is a threat to Bond, once Bond was exposed.

I do think henchman require a threatening physicality, be it male or female.
Mayday and Onatopp are the obvious female "henchmen"

I don't think Renard is henchman either. He is arguably co-lead villain. He is a boss.
Elektra does have her own henchman though, the big hulk Gabor, played by John Seru.
Bond doesn't actually engage him, unless he shoots him (can't remember) but he is henchman, no doubt about that, and lead muscle for the lead villainess.
Another secondary henchman ( to Zao) in DAD if more than one, per movie is allowed is Mr. Kil who henches for Graves.

My 2 cents on the henchmen battles within films:

YOLT: Mr. Osato had the biggest impact to the story.

FRWL: Red Grant. Blofeld is the top dog, but Kronsteen and Klebb both held a share in the project management here. Grant was recruited and carried out to do specific tasks which is a henchman in my book. That being said Grant was in the villains game and Klebb should not be omitted completely.

LALD: I'd be fine with either Tee Hee or Samedi. Both memorable, though Tee Hee probably fits the definition of henchmen more.

GE: Onatopp for sure though Ourumov is fantastic.

    My List for Henchmen:

    1: Dent
    2: Grant
    3: Oddjob
4: Vargas (regrettably; I hate Vargas with a passion)
    5: Helga
    6: Bunt
    7: Wint and Kidd
    8: Tee Hee
    9: Nick Nack (paddywhack?)
    10: Jaws
11: Well, as tempting as it is to put "Stupid Jaws", I'll agree on Chang
    12: Locque! Come on!
    13: Gobinda
    14: May Day
    15: Necros
    16: Dario
    17: Xenia
    18: Stamper
19: Ehh, I'm gonna say Bullion.
    20: Zao
21: Tough one. Dimitrios gets taken out too early and Carlos is a mere lackey. I'm gonna say Mollaka.
    22: Elvis
23: Oh, wow, well I guess it has to be Patrice. But again he gets taken out too early.

You know what Elimination Game would be really cool? Decades '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s and the '00s. It's not really fair or worthwhile doing the '10s at this point.

    That's actually quite a good idea @Birdleson.
Let's add it to the list.

Now it seems unlikely that the PTS game will last through the day, so should we close the vote and declare the 'Henchmen game' winner? And is @SuperheroSith ready to prepare it for kick off as soon as the other game finishes?

Got my list sorted. Going to include Klebb instead of Grant, as Grant was used in the villains game.

Superhero Sith posted the last vote update:

    Henchmen - IIIII
    Main Titles - III
    Bond Decades - II

Should we revote now that Henchmen are going and Title Song should be coming to a close. Personally I wouldn't mind an Ally game, it's a nice compliment to the Henchmen game.
