    3. Piz Gloria. Beautifully hidden away in the Swiss Alps, not to mention Ken Adam's brilliance in constructing it. The perfect mix of obvious evil and elengance.

    Ken Adam sat OHMSS out.

Well, then, whoever made it really outdid themselves. It's up there with Adam's best.

Piz Gloria was already being built as a restaurant before OHMSS began filming. Cubby/Saltzman offered to pay for the cost of finishing the restaurant if they'd allow Bond to film there. The restauranteurs wisely agreed and the rest is history.

  • 1. Piz Gloria (OHMSS): Pretty obvious, I'd think. There's scarcely a more beautiful place on earth than the top of a Swiss Alp. But it's not just the breathtaking scenery that makes Piz Gloria so great. The building's lighting (lots of reds, oranges and blues) is mid-century marvelous, as is the architectural design itself. Fleming himself could not have chosen or even constructed a more perfect setting for Blofeld's operations.

    2. Afghanistan (TLD): Not so obvious. But being a bit of a desert dweller, I'm naturally attracted to settings such as this. I simply love the expanse, and the towering mountains off in the distance. When watching this sequence, I really am transported to Afghanistan at the tail end of the Cold War.

    3. Las Vegas (DAF): If you're a devotee of classic, old Las Vegas, this setting is for you. If not, you can be forgiven for not appreciating it. As for me, I love the shots of all the old casinos and signage that have been imploded and plowed under in the name of "progress," the majesty of the Las Vegas Hilton, the splendid tackiness of the Palms Mortuary, and the remoteness of the surrounding area.

So many to choose, so many well-deserved mentions here. I will try to be original:

1)The Bahamas, especially Palmira in TB. A fancy house, plenty of space, quick access to the sea and shark pool. Villain's heaven.

2)The Orient Express, FRWL. Because it's a train and because it's not just any train.

3)The Buckinghamshire, in Thunderball. Because there is just something about English countryside. Incidentally, I live in Bucks.

    1. Sanchez' house in LTK. The white marble is stunning.

    2. Scaramanga's island in Phuket.

    3. Nassau, Bahamas (TB & CR)
  • I hadn't thought of the Orient Express as a setting, but it most assuredly is. And a dam' good one.

And I agree on Sanchez's house. LTK's visuals come in for undeserved grief, IMO.

Agreed on Sanchez's house, the Villa Arabesque in Acapulco. Stunning views. People are looking at the production values in LTK as opposed to what they are actually seeing.

If you've got about 29 million in spare change, you can own the joint. They showed just a small sample of the estate (the outdoor area shown was the 60 seat Poseidon Bar) in the film.

    2. The Orient Express
    3. Corfu
  • I actually enjoyed Saint Marks Square Venice (if you take away the Moonraker nonsense), or the Italian city as a whole, when they filmed From Russia With Love, Moonraker and Casino Royale. There was some great locations to be seen

Istanbul looked mysterious in From Russia With Love, or where Europe meets Asia, so maybe they could of focused a little more there

I thought Saint Petersburg, Russia, was a fun location in Goldeneye, although we didn't get to see much of it I'm afraid -only Brosnan running wild in his tank
  • this is pretty hard since i'm not big on landscapes

    1. Montenegro in CR-- I like the euro setting. It gives off a classy vibe.

    2. Shanghai in SF - I'm amazed by the beauty of the city lights at night or it was just Mendes' shots.

    3. Bahamas in TB- nice, relaxing vacation setting. it helped that the women are beautiful.

HUH what Skyfall did you watch? When Bond swam and followed Patrice from the airport.
