    Detailed post @InTheWind. I enjoyed reading it, and I like your ranking too. Nice variety, and as a fan I'm always happy to see some TMWTGG love.

    I completely agree on your point about even the lowest ranked Bond films having positive attributes. We are very fortunate to have such varied styles (among the actors and among the films) within the Bond oeuvre. It gives one a lot of choice when looking to put a film in, depending on one's mood on that day.

    I agree completely. I loved GoldenEye as a child, as did everyone born in the late 80s did, I assume. I just did my Bond run for the first time and was surprised at how little I liked GoldenEye this time. It's Brosnan's worst performance as Bond, easily. I also don't appreciate the unbridled murder. However, Trevelyan is slightly above average for Bond villains and the ending, as is commonly the case, is great.

    Same. I just finished my run, which I chose to jump around, but finished with Spectre. I think Spectre is a good movie, though I appreciate its criticisms. I'd rather they not continue with the meta-plot, though. I'm not sure how many people actually cared, or even remembered, the plots from the previous films to be very interested in the whole Spectre mastermind conclusion.

    I found something to enjoy in every movie, and I tried to focus on that when considering the movie overall. For example, Denise Richards is stiff, but I don't think she's bad. Carlyle, likewise, is one of my least favorite villains. Fortunately, though, there's plenty of other qualities to WINE to appreciate (not least of which is Marceau out-shining Carlyle).

    I'll confess that TWINE is a film which I normally find little to appreciate in @InTheWind. Having said that, I have softened on Brosnan's performance it in (which I used to be highly critical of in the past) and upon one of my last viewings, I actually thought Richards wasn't all that bad either. It's true that Marceau (who really hams it up deliciously at the end) outshines Carlyle, and now I think that's a good thing. There's no doubt about who the real villain is in that piece.

    Agreed. Plus, it has three awesome actions scenes: office fight, incredibly well-done boat chase that actually takes place in London (a setting almost entirely ignored until Craig despite its being the franchise hometown), and near-drowning experience. There's nothing like aquaphobia to make a tense scene.

    The boat chase is another sequence that has grown on me over the years. I disliked it upon first viewing for some reason but think it's very well shot these days. You feel as though Brosnan is in that thing at speed. I also like the finale in the sub.

    Come to think of it, I may have to give it a viewing soon.

    Spectre is completely under-rated. I remember finding it average when I saw it in the theater, but now that I've watched it again (and last, after the other Bond films in my run), I really appreciate it. I love Bautista in general and, more to the point, his continuation of the Oddjob and Jaws line. He's terrifying. There's nothing like a villain who simply won't go down. There are too many great set pieces to count. The Austria scene is gorgeous and tense, in particular. Even the desert train station is beautiful in its simplicity, matched with classic cinematography. Oh, and the meeting in Rome has good tension too. The plane/car chase is weird, but so are a ton of Bond chase scenes, when put into perspective (it also reminded me of 1080, for you all who were also addicted to the N64). And Seydoux is excellent, easily in the top half of Bond girls.

    I love all the Bond films to varying degrees and different reasons, so although a film may be 20th on my rankings i still like it!

    Your top ten is solid and it's nice to see some appreciation for the masterpiece that is Daylights.

    GE used to be in my top ten. Alas, no longer.

    The great thing about the Bond films is that there’s one for each possible mood (fearless adventure, spy vs. spy, romantic melancholy, etc.). In other words, all of them are enjoyable depending on my mood and each has merit on some level. With that in mind here are my top 10:
    1. OHMSS
    2. FRWL
    3. GF (my late mother would kill me for not having this at #1)
    4. CR
    5. YOLT
    6. GE
    7. SF
    8. FYEO
    9. TSWLM

    I imagine you mean you like my list :-) Your top two are brilliant choices. And while I don't completely agree your top 10 (minus QOS) ain't bad either. Though I'm sad to see Goldeneye, Octopussy and Dr No so low.

    The pacing issues you mention probably apply to most old movies, Bond or not. Having said that, OHMSS's pacing is fine apart from the middle section, and Spectre.

    I know exactly what you mean by *should* be a favourite. Thunderball is my big one. Great film and funniest in the franchise dragged down by the pacing.

    Also, highly unusual to see someone put Lazenby as favourite Bond. His fight scenes are among the best

    While my top ten has remained fairly steady over the years, YOLT has always been the toughest to rank. A flawed film on several levels, YOLT is, however, is all about giving us larger than life spectacle. And it does that very well IMO. The volcano lair, for example, is perhaps the single most famous set piece in the history of the franchise. To this day, my jaw drops when I realize that Ken Adam and crew actually built such a set (no CGI back in those days)!!

    To paraphrase the authors of “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang!”, YOLT goes right up to the line of the absurd – but never crosses it (unlike MR, for example).

    Kara is one of my favorite Bond girls who I would take over the 24th Bond film SPECTRE any day.
