    I still cannot understand when people put Spectre above Skyfall. Both films have a similar style but all in all Skyfall has a much a better plot...

    Keep in mind that I actually like ALL the films in one capacity or the other. Also, after the top 10, the listing can be very fuzzy.

    PS. I find Goldfinger to be overrated, but it sure does live up to the legend.

    Quite a number of changes there but I’ve been ranking (on enjoyment only) during my watching of them all. Only a handful (if that) have remained in position, while DAD moves up one from the bottom thanks to the soap opera goings on of TWINE.

    @Shark_0f_Largo--an admirable top 10! Had to chuckle at the thought of Karl Stromberg and how to my ears he says "Mr. Bund". Stromberg--one of the best bad guys in the series--being German (or Austrian) always helps I think. I wonder if there's a thread on tallying the countries the bad guys (or bad women) are from. Oh--I loved Curd Jurgens in Smiley's People (not to mention some other Bond film co-stars in it)!! Man that is some good spy entertainment, that BBC miniseries, but even more to my liking--Tinker Tailor with Alec Guinness and company.

    I've always loved it, can't imagine how high it may sit in my rankings if it had a Barry score and a couple scenes were altered/omitted.

    A Barry score would automatically have it in my top 10, but thanks to Bill Conti, it sits at 23.

    My thoughts exactly! It's bad, but I don't think a score could be so bad that it would drop it over a dozen rankings.

    It does. It's a fine film no doubt, but the score ruins a lot of the great moments for me such as the ski chase. Not to mention, I despise Easton's theme song in which the tune that is played throughout the film makes me cringe. It is why I love the warehouse raid, because no music is played during that, at least not in my memory. It's been a long time since I've watched FYEO.

    I agree that FYEO would be a tremendously better viewing experience without Conti's disco score during the action scenes. The slow bits are just fine, but his action scoring is far beneath Bond films of that era in particular, and more in line with the garbage we've been getting for the most part since Barry left the franchise.

    Never has a score weakened my enjoyment of a film as much as Conti's FYEO score has.

    I can't deny a Barry score would vault FYEO into the upper echelon of Bonds. However, I have to say I find Conti's score provides an element of energy and fun that reminds you its Moore's Bond, which I find oddly appropriate considering the heavier tone.

    Edit: Especially during the action scenes with the nod and the wave to the bobsledding team with the disco music in the background (one of my favorite parts of the movie). A moment like that can't really be made so easily with Barry's style.

    In terms of what it does great, I think the dock raid is one of the best action sequences in the series, Locque's death is one of my favorite, darker Bond moments, and the finale is Top 3 for me.

    The ski sequences are great and you can tell that they had this set up for a new Bond actor, with the Tracy/ Blofeld throwback at the start and the blue ski outfit (à la OHMSS) during the chase.

    I agree, and I've also never been a fan of the Neptune sub section with that geek in the other underwater contraption, before Melina and Bond are captured. I found it awfully slow and sleep inducing, apart from the Submarine score at the start. It's thankfully redeemed by the magnificent keelhauling sequence afterwards.

    Forgive me if this is already commonly known, but is Carole Bouquet dubbed in the film? Something definitely isn't right, it's as is her voice doesn't compliment her actions or something.

    Edit: She was, and it is a simply terrible dubbing job. It spoils parts of her performance for me.

    Ok so I admit that I am a big fan of the underwater scenes in FYEO. I like them even more than the underwater scenes in TB (that I still admire). I find the slow motion in the FYEO underwater fight really tense. It also feels much more dangerous because of the higher depth and that diver really scared me.

    For me FYEO is as average as they come. It's not bad film but it isn't very good either.

    The good stuff includes its more down-to-earth spy story, the scenes with Cassandra Harris and Topol. I also like the raid on the warehouse. Roger Moore's performance is quite good too.

    His attire is not. They managed to put together some of the least flattering collection of clothes imaginable. Bibi of course is downright irritating and Kristatos is Julian Glover wasted.

    The film can feel a bit lifeless and short on energy. Much in the same way as AVTAK. But in 85 they had an unforgettable couple of villains, a thrilling Barry score and the best piece of action saved for the end.

    As for Conti's score, there exists disco done well and disco done bad. TSWLM is an example of the former and FYEO an example of the latter.

    In the end I always think of FYEO as an admirable attempt but a very flawed at that.
