For me FYEO is as average as they come. It's not bad film but it isn't very good either.

The good stuff includes its more down-to-earth spy story, the scenes with Cassandra Harris and Topol. I also like the raid on the warehouse. Roger Moore's performance is quite good too.

His attire is not. They managed to put together some of the least flattering collection of clothes imaginable. Bibi of course is downright irritating and Kristatos is Julian Glover wasted.

The film can feel a bit lifeless and short on energy. Much in the same way as AVTAK. But in 85 they had an unforgettable couple of villains, a thrilling Barry score and the best piece of action saved for the end.

As for Conti's score, there exists disco done well and disco done bad. TSWLM is an example of the former and FYEO an example of the latter.

In the end I always think of FYEO as an admirable attempt but a very flawed at that.

I just watched it last night. I felt the same way. The whole thing just felt bland to me, with the exception of the scenes with Columbo, the casino scene...well basically everything after Cortina. I know I mentioned my hatred for all of the music in FYEO, but it took it to a whole new level last night. Just horrible.

I tend to agree with nearly everything you've said. I do like Bouquet as Melina though and think she lifts the film considerably. I much prefer her wounded revenge seeking character to Kurylenko's similar Camille, and think she has pretty good chemistry with Moore. The cinematography is also very good (probably the best of the Glen era).

I noticed a hardcore age comparison between the two. It really looked like a father-daughter relationship. At least in OP, the relationship between Moore and Adams was believable.

I agree, but I think it sort of worked for this film (due to the revenge focus of Melina, like Camille), although it is quite jarring for those used to Moore's almost naughty antics in prior films. He's very well behaved in this film, with both Melina and Bibi.

I'd completely be ok with it if they didn't make love at the end.

Agreed, it felt a bit obligatory. Another similarity with AVTAK.

Yes. I agree, and perhaps they retrospectively realized that, which is why Camille/Bond only were allowed to steal a kiss in QoS.

It was just so they can fill Moore's shagging quota.

TSWLM at 23? The rest of your list is fairly rational! Even if you are being a bit overly kind to SP.
The last time I tried watching TSWLM was five years ago, and I just couldn't get through it. The last time I saw it in full was about ten years ago. To me, the Gilbert films feel so big, but still so empty. They fill me with apathy. However, I do have some time for Moonraker - not sure what the difference is with that one... I enjoy the villain and Bond girls, unlike in Gilbert's others.

    Worst:
    4.Die Another Day

    Bad:
    20.You Only Live Twice
    9.Octopussy
    8.Quantum Of Solace
    7.Diamonds Are Forever
    6.Thunderball

    Good:

    4.Live And Let Die
    3.Tomorrow Never Dies
    2.SPECTRE
    1.License To Kill

    Great:
    10. The Spy Who Loved Me
    9.Dr.No
    8.From Russia With Love

    6.On Her Majesty's Secret Service

    Best:
    5.GoldFinger
    4.GoldenEye
    3.Skyfall
    2.The Living Daylights
    1.Casino Royale

    Why?:
20.You Only Live Twice: because its so ridiculous, because of the japanese made me hate this film.
16.Thunderball: it is a pretty great film, but because of the cartoony tone and that water fight made me hate this.
15.The Man With The Golden Gun: some say it was the worst but for me, nah, The Man with The Golden Gun is the only bond film that is ridiculous that made me love it because of its cringy moments, also is not boring unlike You Only Live Twice and Thunderball, And of course Christopher Lee's Francisco Scaramanga made me love this film.

Milovy, you're not alone! I too dont get the love for TSWLM. I think all of Rogers other Bond movies are better. Spy has a boring villain, Bond girl, i hated the Jaws character, and the action is very meh!. Plus it has one of the most boring bomb diffusing scenes, the film grinds to a halt. Was never keen on on the score either! I argued, unsuccessfully on the best pre-credits sequence poll, on the much admired pre-titles scene being quite poor and only gets attention and tops polls because of one brief (albeit magnificent!) stunt scene! Much prefer MR!

I have also never understood all the admiration for TSWLM. I think it is an average Bond film, but not one of the best and Roger Moore is even my favourite Bond actor. But I never really liked TSWLM as well as Moonraker. Both are to OTT for my taste and I miss any suspense in the films (except for a very few scenes). Some sequences drag, especially the Liparus scene. In my opinion, YOLT which has a very similar plot is superior to both of these films. The same applies to the 1980th Roger Moore films which have a better pacing than Roger's 70s films. But I know that this is certainly controvercial on this forum.

I am happy for everyone who enjoys a particular Bond film, even though it is not one of my favourites. And as I said, I belong to the minority of people who don't find this film so entertaining.... Most people like it very much. But I must admit, I like Jaws in TSWLM.

almost :-) Well I don't count them anymore. It was a solid guess I think. As he said he was finally at least 400 years too old for the job but ok even that would not have been enough... to make so many films...
