So to clarify you rate the likes of Stromberg, Kristatos, Koskov, Whitaker, Carver and Elektra above Dr No and Goldfinger?

That is what you're saying right? Or have I just had a brain haemorrhage and am currently lying on the floor, my oxygen starved brain imagining all manner of preposterous universes - including one in which people prefer the guy with the webbed fingers who sits pressing buttons all the time or the bloke who does comedy karate kicks to two of the series most classic Fleming villains?

That is always a possibility, you would have to tell me. I would indeed rate all those you listed as being better than Goldfinger. Cue dramatic chipmunk...

As for Goldfinger, oh god, like the film itself, he's the stock Bond villain. Or to put it another way, he's immensely overpraised as a Bond villain.

Tbh, I rarely see GF himself getting the villainous praise he deserves. The film itself is overrated but GF as a character is an utter joy to watch. My favourite Bond villain.

Apparently not. Hes just a stock Bond villain.

Koskov and Carver really push the villainous envelope with their comic buffoonery in a way in which Frobe, in an almost perfect embodiment of Fleming's writing, does not.

You really couldnt make it up.

I agree with @TheWizardOfIce. I mean, yeah personal taste and opinion and all but seriously, Dr. No? He's THE villain, THE icon, even the Blofelds were modelled after him. He has charisma, depth and nuance, and he was performed brilliantly by Joseph Wiseman. Julius No is not just the first Bond villain; he's arguably one of the third best in the series. In a way, he is what Bond villains are all about.

    Still not convinced?

With 'Comic buffoonery', I think someone just did. Koskov was a little worm, but I still would rate him a better villain than Goldfinger, even if the latter was a Fleming character. Not that is the be all and end all. I mean, I could like the character in the book, but not the film. Take Scaramanga, I think Christopher Lee is fantastic in the role, he plays it so much better than how Fleming wrote him in the book. Just because an aspect of the films is connected to the books, doesn't mean that it's above criticism. Should The Spy Who Loved Me (book) get a free pass just because it was written by Ian Fleming, even though Fleming himself regretted it?
  • Dr. No has a towering presence. I can understand him not being your favorite but bottom 6???

Dr. No is the best Sean Connery Bond villain...

    In no order:

    Dominic Green
    Koskov
    Kristatos
    Whitaker
    Stromberg

Coem to think about it there weren't that many really good villains...most of them were there just to serve a purpouse as a villain without much depth or complexity.

I don't think I would argue with you. I love Goldfinger and Largo and even YOLT Blofeld but Dr. No is probably the greatest of them.

You're all wrong! Rosa Klebb is the best Connery villain! I can't bellieve no one's mentioning her! :>

I like him very much when we first meet him after his parachute entrance and when he fences with Bond. Apart from those scenes, pretty poor.
