Having a Benoit Blanc mystery every couple of years around this time of year would indeed be something to look forward to.

    Indeed it would, my friend.

Basically, Craig has now a good shot at a second franchise, which would be slightly less physically demanding than the first one.

And don't forget that the director is supposed to be working on his Star Wars trilogy next.

I’d be game for Craig and Johnson doing a series of Blanc P.I. than him doing a Star Wars trilogy (and I liked TLJ).

I wasn't thinking of him as the lead, but he could easily get a supporting part, as a mentor or a villain.

It's indeed quite rare for an actor who plays Bond to have a hit while he has the part. Brosnan got one with Thomas Crown, but before that, only Sean Connery could qualify.

That is a possibility, they did it with Indiana Jones, though RJ said he already had a title and an idea so who knows.

The trick will be pulling it off, Blanc is a novelty here, a new character, he is essentially a co star to Armas who is really the lead.

Though Blanc is the next main character of the piece. I imagine that BB will be more front and centre with another mystery.

We've had a peak into his persona, apparently the first day the cast heard that accent they went WOW! he is going there.

I just loved the way that dialogue rolled off his tongue, you can tell he's enjoying every minute of it.

The thing that comes across is there is a total confidence in that performance, he doesn't feel awkward in it's skin, it feels natural and it's only the fact we've never seen him in this kind of a role (although Logan Lucky was a hint) that it stands out.

Come the next time he inhabits that wardrobe and accent it will be normal and then we'll get a chance to delve deeper into that persona.

In the same way that Poirot and Columbo have their characteristics and eccentricities Benoit Blanc will be revealed more in his next mystery.

It is quite ironic considering his time in Bond people have criticised him for not having a sense of humour, it reminds me the way Dalton was levelled with the same thing and then he turns up in Hot Fuzz and is one of the funniest things in it.

Craig is getting great notices for this as he is subverting expectations , although that won't be the case next time, Johnson will need to deliver another intriguing mystery, Knives Out is ingenious and a proper contemporary update with a new kind of detective.

Next time round those elements won't be able to leaned on to get it through. I do trust RJ knows this and will give Blanc another mystery and original hook to keep the momentum this first film as well and truly begun.

What will be nice is a franchise to look forward to that isn't a comic book or car chase/crash porn. Something intelligent, humorous and for all the family to see.

This spot seems just the right time for it, it already feels like one of those films that would play well in the Christmas holidays like Murder On The Orient Express.

If you haven't seen it yet, get yourself to the cinema it's unlikely you'll have more fun with anything else this year.

Is there anyone left in Hollywood to cast?

Daniel and Ana have received Satellite Award nominations, and the 'Knives Out' cast have already been awarded the Ensemble Award.

Is a Knives Out sequel a real possibility then? Cause I'd definitely be up for it...

Daniel Craig is the first James Bond actor to be nominated for a major acting award (Golden Globe or Oscar) during his tenure as Bond.

Lazenby was nominated for a Golden Globe for OHMSS. Granted, he had already quit and the nomination category is no longer practiced.

True. But it wasn't specifically a "Best" actor/supporting actor award. It was some sort of newcomer award.

It’s the kind of category I think only music awards still practice these days. Film nominations seem to have abandoned the idea of a newcomer award altogether.

Finally saw Knives Out last night and enjoyed it very much. Especially Daniel Craig's accent, which was both hilarious and strangely sexy.

The Cannonball Run as well, though to be fair, Burt Reynolds was his co-star.

Apparently there seem to be disgruntled Star Wars fans review bombing KNIVES OUT on IMDb because they can't let go of a grudge against Rian Johnson. It was as low as 6.8 according to early reviewers, before it shot up to 8.1 once sane people started voting.

But don't believe the hype, the high praise might just be a conspiracy conducted by The Mouse.

There is a similar thing percolating for NTTD. Wishing critical and financial failure on the next Bond film.

Maybe they aren't even a Star Wars fan, just a troll. Nothing would surprise me with the internet these days.

Oh my god the TLJ hate has hit nuclear proportions.

Hurt fan boys really are the very epitome of pathetic.

Disney have nothing to do with Knives Out as far as I am aware.

I've said this before if Bond fans took this approach we'd be openly dissing 1917 and saying similar things about it in relation to SPECTRE.

I'm not going to see 1917 but I will watch it at some point, I'm not boycotting I just don't go to the cinema that often due to prices etc.

I really do hate SPECTRE but that has nothing to do with 1917, I don't think Sam has no talent, I do think SP is a bad film but the worse film of all time...... don't be silly.

My dislike stems from the potential it had to be great, though I must be more tolerant of it than SW fanboys as their disgust of TLJ is just ridiculous and anyone would think that Johnson had physically harmed them or a member of their family.

Knives Out is close to 100 million gross from a 40 million budget, it is a hit and no doubt will go onto to do very well in the home market with physical and streaming revenues.

Knives Out isn't a hit due to some wild ridiculous fan theory that Disney engineered it to make themselves look not incompetent for hiring Rian Johnson, people genuinely liked it and Johnson did a great job.

The internet is just full of the most idiotic nonsense ever known.

Star Wars makes people act funny. Those giving the 1 star reviews with comments like “RJ is a hack, he ruined Star Wars, now he ruined Daniel Craig!” are an extreme minority of butthurt fans.

With awards season, I’m sure there will be more of this silliness. I don’t expect Johnson to get a director nomination for an Oscar, but OH BOY would that drive that small group nuts and I’ll just sit back and watch it for the entertainment

Maybe not Johnson for directing and possibly nothing at the Oscars but we could see KO grab some other awards.

I would say that it definitely wouldn't be undeserving of a best original screenplay nom, many have said it is funnier than most comedies and it is such a clever re imagining of whodunit genre.

Johnson deserves accolades for this for the sheer quality of it, if some of the effects of that are to wind up hurt SW fanboys that would be just a bonus.

As far as Oscars go, I can see it get a best picture nom, but maybe not get anything else. If so, probably best screenplay, but I’m not expecting best director.

That sounds fair, it is a very clever well executed and brilliantly acted piece of entertainment. I certainly hope that Johnson and Craig get to do more of them.

The trick will be doing something that level next time with the novelty of DC's Benoit Blanc being more of an established character and topping Ana De Armas contribution to the whole thing.

It already feels like something that will be returned to not unlike Sidney Lumet's by far best Agatha Christie adaptation Murder On The Orient Express.
