Very interesting stuff, thank you. I don't have the Helfenstein book so that is new to me.

My source was actually (I've checked) a webpage that was later reposted here, in this very thread nine years ago. It appears to be very documented, but I can't vouch for the accuracy. The commonly accepted take about Lazenby's departure may actually be true, but we have seen other situations where the established truth is a simplified take or more exactly a smokescreen to save appearances (like Timothy Dalton "leaving" the part on his own before GE).

As I'm not sure about its authenticity, I haven't tried to rely too much on that to make my case. Lazenby, when he tells stories, is prone to exaggeration, something that resulted in the Becoming Bond reenactments. But his storytelling definitely carries some truth about his actual personality, and that's the thing I tried to focus on, to try to explain what may have happened in his head in 1969.

I used to have an Australian girlfriend and the Aussie slang she used to come out with was hilarious, tbh.

I spent a few weeks in Aus this summer and it's an amazing place, love going there when I can (about once a decade! :D ).

Here's a thing I didn't realise, the 2019 audio drama adaptation of 60s spy novel PASSPORT TO OBLIVION starring George Lazenby as Dr Jason Love is available to listen to on Spotify:

For anyone interested, George posted on his Facebook that the cutoff date for personalized autograph orders through his website is February 28th, so get them in now if you're interested. I'm sure he'll still be offering the regular autograph photos after that, just nothing customized.

After several months of waiting and a few weeks of worrying that it was lost, my autograph has finally arrived! This is too cool, I'm going to have to get it framed and hung up somewhere in the house.

Back in the day few of us were happy with OHMSS. It wasn't a bad film, but it wasn't Connery. And of course a very different Bond story than its five predecessors. As has been well-discussed, this film has taken on a very different character over time. Without question SC is my favorite Bond, but OHMSS and CR are my two favorite Bond films, yet neither star my favorite Bond.

These films work because characters are developed and allowed to grow. Diana Rigg and Eve Green are not the silly one dimensional women we've seen throughout the series.

Now that we've had six Bonds, Lazenby has long ceased to be the one off. One can look at his contribution more objectively. I don't engage in what if discussions because
    what if never happened.

Lazenby did a great Bond film, and for that I am appreciative.

You know that a film or tv show is questionable when George Lazenby is legitimately the best actor in it.

I have seen TMFHK, and I'd say I don't think Lazenby's the best actor in it. Not to say Lazenby's always bad, he's just not a particularly strong actor.

For me, I think he did a great job in it, for such a villain, I think the film may not be that good (quality wise), but Lazenby's performance is one of the positive things about that film (aside from the stunts, of course 😁).

He actually did got burned in the film, there's a scene there where he's burned.

Oh, and there's Stoner, he's there in that one too.

This made me laugh out loud.

On today’s episode of the US cartoon show “Toon In With Me”, they played a “Is it Richie Rich or James Bond?” trivia game.

“I've heard of all of the Bonds: Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig … and that one guy that I forget.”
    =))

Good to hear on Mr. Lazenby. All best to him and his family.

'Tis the season I'll be searching him out.

My guess is that the original tweet was deleted. The newer tweet is an update.

As for Lazenby, I wish him a speedy recovery.

Medium close image of George Lazenby in repose on what appeared to be a hospital bed is what I saw. And he endures.

Hope he'll be ok. OHMSS annual viewing coming up 12/22. (the date 007 visits Piz Gloria in the novel.)

Glad to see George doing alright!
My annual watch of OHMSS will be Christmas Day again ( since the Missus is working again!)
As an aside our main channels here (RTE 1 and 2) have 3 Bond movies on over the festive season, NTTD, DAD, and CR!
