It's time for a more memorable Score for SPECTRE. If it doesn't deliver then we need a New man for the job. Or woman. ;)

Lol ..you're really proud of yourself for that one, huh?

Barry's first score for FRWL wasn't as memorable as GF or TB.
And his score for TLD -although miles better than what both Conti, Kamen and Serra delivered - wasn't as memorable as OHMSS. Difficult to see your point.

Let me rephrase: I personally found the FRWL score not as good as the five scores that followed, GF, TB, YOLT, OHMSS and DAF. My point: he really showed his best qualities for the Bond films during and after GF.

So let's be patient. Give the man Thomas Newman a chance and stop this "you better we fff-in brilliant or I kill you"-mentality.

Generally it's difficult (and I think unadvisable) to judge a composer on one score. One can judge the score certainly, but I think it's best not to judge the composer on one attempt.

I did not personally find his SF score poor at all. It was lacking in orchestra certainly, but I have heard that the budget was cut for orchestra in SF, particularly in comparison to QoS. The budget cut could even have influenced his use of Arnold's Bond theme composition for the DB5 rollout (not sure). Furthermore, he did not have a bold, brassy track like YKMN to work with for SF, as Adele's track was down tempo & slow.

I'm open to seeing what he comes up with for SP before throwing him to the wolves. I'm an optimist when it comes to Newman, because I liked some of the themes & melodies that I heard in SF....and want to see how he develops his ideas for Bond in SP.

I believe the title track from Smith will give us big clues to the score, as I said earlier.

Again, I'd say that this doesn't mean things can't/haven't changed. But hopefully we can agree that it would be foolish to completely discount Mendes's opinion.

Personally, I'm fine either way. I'd be very happy to see DC stay, even though I think neither QOS or SKYFALL lived up to the promise of CR. He's still the best Bond since Connery, imo. But equally, I think there's some good candidates out there to take the mantle. There's a neatness to allowing these four films to be a self-contained unit and, frankly, I don't see how much further they can push this tone.

But if you really think you'll be devastated by Craig leaving, I'd suggest you start getting used to the idea. Every new piece of info that slips out fits, more or less, with what Mendes said to me and the PR fluff from Barbara Broccoli doesn't for one second convince me otherwise.

So, Mendes confines in someone outside of producrtion, whereas according to Babs, they don't want this (if true) to be out there. Doesn't make sense, Mendes wouldn't be so dumb. Plus, according to those, who read the script, you can see the end either way, as a cliffhanger or a Good Bye. We know, everybody is sworn to secrecy, yet you go out and spread the "news", which makes you unloyal, if nothing else.

That ad is freaking bloody great!!!! I love it!!!!
Swimming against the stream (as I seem to do often around here) I loved the new MP from the get-go, even if her casting was clearly politically driven. And I think she has great chemistry with Craig!

I sure hope she will get some action in Spectre. After that ad she already is my No 2 (a tie with Samantha Bond). Let's see what Spectre will have in store for her. Very excited.
  • I'm not 100% but is that Colin Salmon in the van that Moneypenny jumps onto? I like to think I have a good eye and having watched it a few times it sure does look like a slightly older Charles Robinson....

Just checked it. It isn't Colin Salmon. But, you know, Robinson and Eve would really make a good team. I can imagine Moneypenny dropping an ear to a conversation held by M through the intercom, Robinson steps in and says "Interesting station, Moneypenny." :))

Anyone else about to watch Casino Royale on ITV?

Watching. Don't care what anyone says, DA's score alone elevates this way above SF. Newman needs to up his game in SP.

Firmly disagree. As one can read in the "Bond Music Score Contest", Arnold's best score still is "TND". A film like "CR" needed to have a score that could really compete with Barry's "OHMSS". It didn't happen...by far. Good score, but as forgettable as many other Arnold scores:
    zdwL4i.jpg

Moreover, been listening to the expanded "Skyfall" score lately, and I think it's a huge improvement over "CR" and "QOS". I really recommend it. Better mixed, tracks are extended. The entire full work that has been recorded, not for sale and mainly send out to the Academy members. Uncut. Some tracks that didn't make the films. Other tracks that did make the film, but not the soundtrack. I really recommend listening it, to prepare for "SPECTRE". It even has the gunbarrel ending in it, as well as a beautiful instrumental version of Paul Epworth's "Skyfall", the album version of Adele's "Skyfall" and the richer orchestrated movie version of Adele's "Skyfall". "Coffins" is a lovely track also:

You can post as many pictures of the SF album as you want, you missed the point where I said I 'Don't care what anyone says'.

The score of SF was a huge disappointment and imo it is ridiculous to even compare it to the CR score.
I'll never understand why David Arnold was not kept.

Skyfall has its moments score wise but it is highly forgettable except for the very good music during the PTS.

I truly hope Newman can finally give us a Bondesque score for Spectre that is instantly recognisable as such.

I have a Sony Xperia V now, which is entirely waterproof. Have it 2 years now, and the phone still works great. Love the brand much more than Apple or Samsung. The latter brands are for the bland mass.

The new 007 steel books and box sets are out today.

Here's hoping the two SPECTRE featurettes (The Story So Far and The Shadow of SPECTRE) make their way online soon...they aren't on the discs btw it seems, it's online access.

Yes!! Can't wait!! My German friend Klaus keeps me updated once he receives all 9 steelbooks. Then he sends them to me :-).

By the way, the featurettes "The Story So Far" and "The Shadow of SPECTRE" are available online for the buyers of those steelbooks ("Neuem Bonusmaterial Online Verfügbar"). The German stickers on the steelbooks mention that. So good news no? ;-):

That's true yes, you can only get the disc versions if you buy the whole bloody new Bond set again....that's also out tomorrow:
US Edition of the new collector's box:

Dutch edition of the new collector's box:

But I can't be bothered about that. The steelbooks have more long-term value.
