I think with 53 years of Bond history, there's simply too much comparison material. Sometimes we get "drowned" in it really.

From one perspective, SP can never be a truly original film. It brings back not just S.P.E.C.T.R.E., but it's entire universe. Including Bond. If you're that strict about the meaning of "originality", then only DN is an "original".

But we all know the other perspective. That of the mythology, the so called "Bond universe", which can be divided into Bond Universe 1.0 (1962 - 2002) and Bond Universe 2.0 (2006 - present). So re-inventing, re-fuelling and re-shaking the franchise in such a way can make a film appear "original" from a creative point of view within that mythology.

And from those two point of views we can make comparisons. Earlier I said Hinx could be best compared with Grant. But perhaps Hinx can be best compared with itself first. And that we can only do after we've seen the film :-). Will Hinx look like a rather pale bit of unoriginal copy-paste work from previous henchmen (think Stamper, TND)? Or will he feel truly "original" in this re-invented Bond universe 2.0. I think we have to wait and see......:-)

I don't mind more of the same, GG. Just done in a different way. That's why sequels and TV-series are so popular ;-)

And while we're on that note, the 007.com articles are still saying a November 6th global release. According to Marketto, Eon's publicist are still deciding?

I see Grant as more of an operative from the opposing side rather than a henchman, while Oddjob and Jaws were 'Yes men' to their bosses. The question is, will Hinx be a rival operative or a henchman? In my honest opinion, he's more comparable to Oddjob.

Yeah right. Mr Hinx' only lines will be: "Aah aah!!". No way ;-). I think it's a matter of opinion. For me Grant is a henchman. And is the definition of "henchman" in part not "rival operative"? No, I think Mr Hinx is more of a Grant than an Oddjob.

We won't know until we see the movie.

Regarding Grant and I know it is off topic, but he is not merely an henchman: he is the main villain in FRWL.

NO SPOILERS there. I haven't read any leaked material. I'm just WILDLY speculating, that, you know, being a villain in a Bond film, he's probably going to die, as has happened to EVERY henchperson in a Bond film (with the exception of Jaws)

(Edited my original quote to prevent heart attacks)

Thank god! I was drinking coffee when I read the quoted original post. It didn't turn out well... ;)

Why does everyone here think Hinx will be an oddjob type of villain? I'm not seeing that at all. I'm seeing Red Grant completely. From what we heard this character is sophisticated, and I get the impression he'd break some rules if he needed to.

I think he will be a cross between the two, which is a good thing.

I remember reading that Hinx was not just 'the muscle', he's more of an intelligent hit-man. I think it was Mendes, but you've read the script so maybe you have a different take.

RC7 I saw the same it was at the launch it was Baustia himself who said it while being interviewed. He is the anti Bond equally clever and another blunt instrument. His gun is frigging cool double barrelled hand gun.

Yeah, we also heard that Madeleine won't be the "typical" Bond-girl. That she "has a mind of her own" and blah, blah...
Guess they changed the final script a lot ;-)

Wow! You think the villains in this film will brake som rules if needed? Looks like we are in for an unusually badass Bond film!

Yeah, they give us the usual guff, but with the Bautista images I assumed they were being genuine. If not, hey ho. As long as Blofeld didn't know Bond as a kid I don't care what happens.

Grant was rather thuggish though and a philistine. Hinx I see more as a renaissance assassin. Or an Hispanic Grant. I guess people have seen many Aryan poor man's Grant in the franchise. Hinx is not a copy in that sense.

The way I see "Henchmen" are people who mindlessly follow orders from the villain, like Jaws, Oddjob etc - They're muscles who are good at killing but don't have much in the way of brains.

Then you have assassins and killers who follow orders, but have their own minds. They are inventive, ruthless, sly killers - They could be the villains in their own right, but they know where the power is and they side with it. Moving their way up.

Which is Hinx? We'll have to wait until the film is released to find out...

Hinx reminds me a bit of Severin Hydt's main henchman Niall Dunne from Carte Blanche.

    .

From some interviews with Bautista, we already know a little bit. He seems to be sophisticated. More so than Grant anyway, who was sociopath and a philistine. He does have a bit of Oddjob: the rather clunky name (I grew to like it personally), the dark suit, the somewhat odd elegance. But I think he will be more than a grunting, mean looking brute.

Hopefully we get some set photos coming May 17th when they film exterior shots on the Thames. Are there any of our own "field agents" who live in London and are willing to spy on the filming and take pictures when the time comes?

Do not underestimate the resonance, the power this forum has on people :-). I see it as a compliment if people find these fan posters on our forum or via Google Images, and then use it.

Moreover, be certain that key marketing executives at Sony, MGM and Eon are browsing these forums as coverts :-). Fan opinions are very important aggregates and sources of inspiration for them. Trends are in part picked up on these forums.

Sources of inspiration? Well, EoN need to do a better job because our people on this site create infinitely better posters than the garbage EoN end up going with and putting out. The last good poster we had was the Casino Royale teaser.

I agree with that. =D> The official posters have been pretty boring, but the
Fan made posters are always very inventive and exciting. :)
