    The 1980 date in CB

I HATE calling it a reboot. It says the last film made no money and the film bombed ( which it has). And if you think about it all the films move forward in date so....
  • Samuel001 is the closest but no cigar. The info was avalible in the official Casino Royale website biography.

It was 1968, the same year Craig was born and said his Bond was born in Germany. As for the actual date in 1968 of his birth, I don't know.

What is the origin of the name Thunderball? (I'll accept two answers).

This is a rough answer, but if you're talking about the movie and not the novel, then it comes from when M gives the name of the latest mission, Operation Thunderball

The Abandoned Screenplay that was turned into the novel
  • I meant the actual name 'Thunderball', where did Ian Fleming get the name from?

He stepped into a time machine and watched a UK National Lottery broadcast in the Noughties, thereby ensuring that the naming of the novel/ film is thanks to a temporal paradox (given the National Lottery's 'Thunderball' draw is surely named after 'Thunderball' the film)?

All right, maybe not, but somebody had to... ;)

Is it something to do with what soldiers called the cloud from an atomic bomb?
  • Is it something to do with what soldiers called the cloud from an atomic bomb?
Yup, it was a slang word for the mushroom cloud created by an atomic bomb. The other answer is that it was his wife's nickname for him, although that's possibly an urban myth.

    Over to you.

I've just been reading 'The Letters Of Ann Fleming' and can confirm she actually referred to Ian as 'Thunderbird' rather than 'Thunderball' to her literary friends, on account of his passion for the American car model.
