A coworker of mine died this weekend from a heart attack. I didn t know him well, but I believe he was only 42. Sad to hear it.

Sad news. Only a young man.

Sad news. Wasn't aware the rest of the family were talents in their own right.

The 60s/70s Mission Impossible series was a favourite during my childhood. It didn t air on Norwegian tv, but an older friend had Swedish tv in his home where it was aired every Wednesday evening. Thank you, Mr Lansbury.

The 80s show and the Cruise films are pale imitations.
  • Just learned of John Hurt's passing last month. Man. One of the greats. Gave a lot of great performances.

I have to confess when I think of Mission Impossible I usually think of the Cruise films, same with Harrison Ford's The Fugitive.

Normally I associate Peter Graves with Captain Oveur from Airplane!

Another member of the Twin Peaks has left us.

    http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/news/warren-frost-doc-hayward-rip/

Yet another memorable character from that groundbreaking show, he will appear in S3, prominent member of the cast of the original show, Warren Frost imbued Doc Hayward with such warmth and humanity and he's also Mark Frost's Dad.

    RIP.

I'll always remember Warren Frost as George Costanza's would be father in law from Seinfeld.

Agreed I think in a way it still as the upper hand over most shows in it burnt bright for a short period of time but it's influence resonated so much.

Although the warmth of it which is sometimes forgotten in all the weirdness and kooky element is something that modern shows are missing, Peaks was at time full of such emotion.

For instance while Laura Palmer's funeral was darkly amusing it was also so sad and moving, well it was for me.

I've noticed some in the fan community mentioning that they hope it's more like FWWM but although I do expect the darkness to be there, it would be a shame for it to lack that warmth that the best elements of the original program that made it so special.

And fans of wrestling are mourning George "The Animal" Steele.

I must confess that I didn't know him. Not a big fan of american wrestling I guess.

@Gerard, how many obituary pages do you have bookmarked?
None. But I can't help it if the sites on which I go regularly sometimes post obituaries. Like Comic Book Resources, for example, where I go to have news about comics and movies. Didn't expect to see the obit for a wrestler there, that's for sure.

And another one : former Wallabies player Dan Vickerman dies, aged 37. Wait, what ? 37 ?

    https://theguardian.com/sport/2017/feb/19/dan-vickerman-former-wallabies-player-dies-aged-37

WTF happened here ? 37 is not an age to die.

Very brutal way to remove the boards. All the 'post history' of every user deleted too. Complete deletion. :( Almost two decades of internet human interaction wiped out.

It's so strange they didn't just archive it all, giving you the ability to at least view the posts and/or discussions.

I predict imdb will have less and less views now. Bad mistake they made. Granted it was seeming like more and more people would post there as trolls just to stir the pot, but much of the fun was reading others comments about various films, actors, and their experiences seeing different films and so forth. Oh, well.

What a shame. Been on there since 2002. Sure there was a lot of trolling but it was easy enough to ignore. Lots of good posts and fun interaction, all lost. Can never access it again :(. Perhaps wayback machine will allow us to review past posts.
  • Every time I watch a movie for the first time, I always checked the forums for a bit of info not offered in the trivia section.

Completely deleted, no archives whatsoever? I didn't frequent the IMBd boards, but that's just sacrilege.

Yeah, I expected some final farewell activity at least through today the 19th (their notice: IMDb Message Boards Announcement. The IMDb message boards were disabled on February 20, 2017. This included the Private Message system. IMDb is passionately committed to providing innovative ways for our hundreds of millions of users to engage and communicate with one another. We will continue to enhance our current offerings and launch new features in 2017 and beyond that will help our customers communicate and express themselves in meaningful ways while leveraging emerging technologies and opportunities. For more information, see the FAQ here. . ]

I understand business decisions and having a focus, but there's also the idea to end well. Not so much for IMDb Message Boards.

So it's tomorrow's news today. Death for breakfast.

And as of 7:23 PM EST 19 February 2017, it's done like Vijay--no more problems.

  • I read the reviews and occasionally read movie lists on the Imdb forums though never joined up, are people now unable to make movie reviews on there?

Movie reviews and lists and polls are available.

Discussion on Message Boards is what's ceased.

Re the demise of the IMDB boards...

    https://www.themoviedb.org/

is similar to IMDB. The site has boards for shows/films. :) Given enough support and users it can become the new IMDB! It's been online since 2008. Worth checking out and supporting.

I agree wholeheartedly. That is pretty senseless. I personally thought that they would have archived the old forums and discussions but they must want a fresh start instead. A pity, but there you are
