Not so sure that Maibaum improved the GF plot after all. Seeing that NASA and medical facilities alike use gold to shield people from radiation, how is it then even possible to radiate gold to render it worthless?

People may be protected by gold from radiation, but gold itself isn't. Think of it this way : your shield will protect you from arrows, but it still will have arrows stuck in it.

A trivia one: Did Sean Connery wear make-up to resemble a mask on FRWL's pre-credits sequence? It looks so, but I'm not sure.

It certainly does look like they used makeup to make his skin more pale and flat, and applied more lippy than usual.

I thought they brought in an actor who looked very much like Connery.

It even passed my mind that he was actually the stunt double who had to grow a moustache because he looked too much like Connery, but nope: It's Connery all right, impersonating Kraftwerk on "The Robots" music video.

I think @Birdeson's assumption is correct: Looks completely delibarate.

Its definately Connery, just with lots of make-up.

Thanks for your reply. I have done some further research on the topic on some scientific sites, and it turns out that it is indeed possible to render gold radioactive, but due to the structure of the substance, the induced radioactivity will invariably be lost within a few weeks at most. So Maibaum/Dehn got it wrong. Fort Knox itself would be another matter, but that was not the purpose of the plan.

The answer to this is obvious, but in CR during the crane fight, why did Mollaka not kick Bond off during this part?

Surely stepping on Bonds fingers would have a deadly effect.

Because Daniel Craig's Bond tenure would be even shorter that Lazenby's !!

    :))

But surely his little fingers would remain unaffected, right?

Greetings - new hereabouts and would like some help with something that's been bugging me for a long time. I remember seeing a scene where Bond leaves a building to find a traffic warden writing out a ticket for the DB5 (which is on double yellows). Of course, Bond hops in and flips the number plates, the warden does a double take as she's copying down the digits but, before she can finish writing down the new number, Bond speeds off. Cue exasperated traffic warden. Now, where exactly is this clip from? My brain remembers Connery in the scene and there are points in both Goldfinger and Thunderball where it could slot in nicely, but obviously it's not there. Is it from some spoof or other, perhaps with a Connery lookalike? It would have been on TV sometime from the late 70's to mid-80's. I've hunted youtube and the web in general but can't turn up anything. Any ideas?

These are two questions but they're similar.

As most (if not all) of us know, originally Skyfall was to be written by Wade and Purvis just as the previous four films had been. Sam Mendes then brought in frequent collaborator John Logan to help tighten the script. According to the Skyfall dvd commentary the original 3rd act to Skyfall was completely different before Logan stepped in. No Scotland, no family home, etc. Does anyone know anything about the Purvis and Wade 3rd act of Skyfall?

Similarly the original draft of License Revoked was set to have Bond battling a drug lord in Asia rather than Central America. Does anyone, by chance, have any more details not this? That's all I've ever gotten on the original plans for License Revoked.

Good question. I'd also like to know any more details on this, although I fear they are scarce. My memory is getting worse by the day, but what little is left recalls the original ending was particularly low-key. Hence the alternative fire-powered ending. Despite Logan adding the end, it's known that it was Wade who added the name 'Skyfall', whether they wrote end, I've no idea. I think it's quite obvious it's an afterthought when you watch movie, there being no reference other than in the tests.

Because we wouldn't get to see an intense crane to crane jump and ensuing chase of thrilling proportions, that's why! Don't ask stupid questions, @Benny. It's so unbecoming. ;)

    It's a deleted scene

Whilst watching TMWTGG this afternoon, why does Bond just stand by and allow Scaramanga to blow up his sea plane? Bond knows what's going to happen and he knows Scaramanga is unarmed so why not just bloody shoot him?

I'm not saying that's a bad question/observation, but by the time we get to TMWTGG we are well beyond such logic.

Good point. I'll revise my original question:

    TMWTGG. Why? ;-)

Because we wouldn't get to see their deadly face-off throughout Scaramanga's house of fun, that's why! Have you no sense of drama, Willy? ;)

I'm a drama queen and even I do not make sense of it! But, really, it's taken from the book. Whilst Bond is sitting in the car backseat of Scaramanga, could kill him, doesn't, "But I am being a bloody fool right now for not taking the chance"! It's all power games, see what I can do, etc.

I've just watched DAF, and it never ranks highly with me anymore. Love some of the witty dialogue, but for the most part I find myself asking questions during my viewing.
    For example :
Why can't Bond get access to Willard Whyte via Felix and the CIA? Felix comments the President I can get you to see, but not a billionaire who may or may not be bad.
Why do Wint and Kidd place Bond in the pipe, rather than just kill him? And why do the construction men not notice Bond in the pipe before they bury it?
Also how much pipeline do these men lay in a day? It's hard to imagine it being any longer than you could easily find an entry/exit hatch.
Knowing Blofeld is on an oil rig off the coast of Baja, why does Bond have to try and switch the tapes? They know where he is, why not just destroy the rig and Blofeld too?
Why does Tiffany not get captured and questioned sooner as she aids Bond in switching the tapes. The guards are stood next to Bond, hauling him away when they discuss putting the real one (tape) back. Surely they would alert Blofeld to this. After all, if in doubt. Ask.
There's to many questions regarding many of the sequences in DAF that really make it a poor entry for me.

How can you not love Mankiewicz (sarcasm alert)? The guy that made Bond THE SECRET AGENT a regular celebrity that everyone and their dog seemed to know as a 00 agent for the British government. God I hate that about some of those Moore films he scripted...

He didn't die in Licence to Kill. And he's alive in CR and QoS because the series was rebooted.
