I assumed the 00s were a symbol of your two kills you performed to get your status, and the number following that the order of your own instatement into that status amongst your section.

Correct, it would be mainly that. I reminded of CR now, when Dryden told Bond he needed 2 assassinations to get 00 status. Maybe those '00' are these 2 kills, because there is no "James Bond 07" or "0" status - if you know what i'm trying to mean. :)

I was wondering just then how Moore managed to keep that vial intact with the deadly nerve gas inside at the Venice laboratories during, and after the fight with Chang in Moonraker. I know it's only a fun movie that shouldn't be taken seriously, but worth a mention. Even Moore himself at one point, takes it out and inspects it to see if it is damaged. Must of been made of some pretty sturdy material for sure

This is more a criticism than a question but why does Vesper help Bond to choose the right jacket? And why does he look himself in the mirror as if it was his first time wearing a tuxedo? Isn't he an upper class Eton-Fettes alumni? Doesn't he went to a casino before and learn how to dress right?

Well not that sturdy because the same containers break pretty easily when they fall from a few feet off the globe in the lab a few minutes earlier.

I understand why DAF is considered Connery's worst Bond film. The plot is so convoluted.

    1. I know Leiter's role as customs agent was to switch the real diamonds with fakes ones but we see him patting down the body looking for the stones and when he can't find them he closes the casket. We don't even see him make the switch. Bad editing?

We later find out that Leiter does indeed have the real diamonds because Bond calls him and tells him to send them to Vegas. I know Bond suspects that Tiffany is connected to the diamond hoarder, so he arranges with Leiter to pass the gems to Tiffany at the Casino to find out who she passes them off to but why give her the real ones and not the paste stones? Why take the risk of losing them?

    2. Was Slumber Inc working with Blofeld?

    3. Why did Shady Tree pass off the stones to Saxby if he knew that the diamonds were fake?

Why didn't Wint & Kidd just kill Shady Tree at the funeral home and take the diamonds?

    4. Why do the gangsters leave Bond alone with Tiffany after tossing out Plenty O'Toole? Were those Blofeld's men or Slumber's? What did they plan on having Tiffany do?

    5. What the hell was Plenty O'Toole doing at Tiffany's house? What was she scheming?

    6. What was Tiffany doing with Blofeld? He had Wint and Kidd kill her earlier but they mistook Plenty for her. She was also connected to the pipeline smuggling ring and Blofeld was having everyone killed who was a part of that. What use was she to him?

Two things about Moonraker which have always been extremely irritating to me:

    (1) Why did Drax not simply shoot down Bond on the pheasant hunting field when he had the opportunity? If associates of his like Chang and the tree sniper already knew that Drax wanted 007 killed, then it's not like he was attempting to be secretive! Besides, wouldn't he think it would be better off to kill 007 sooner than later, so that his plans had no chance of being ruined, even in the least little bit? Seriously, when Bond hands Drax the rifle back and says, "such good sport", I'm always wondering why Drax doesn't just shoot him as he walks off!

    (2) Why does Corrine decide to run into the woods to escape Drax's Dobermans, when clearly she could have hopped into the golf cart and most likely escape the dogs? I mean really, the golf cart is right there, and she passes it! Why?!

A golf cart isn't very fast and the dogs would have gotten her anyway.

Bond could have really been in trouble if the film makers took a different route! Just imagine if Drax snapped his fingers and all the guys pointed their rifles at Bond!! I'd love to know how he would have gotten out of that one!

She should have stood her ground and handled the dogs like Schwarzenegger!

    ;)

  • I just watched TB last night. My least watched Connery film as its the only one I never owned a copy of until a bought the blurays.

When Domino is telling Bond the story about her brother making her cry she stops and apologizes to Bond for "embarrassing" him. What did she mean by this? How would that embarrass Bond? There's quite a bit of Domino's dialogue that didn't make sense to me.

    I love that scene! :))

If she got away Corrine should have shouted "you're fired" at the dogs. =))

Another logo question, can anyone tell me what font is used for the You Only Live Twice logo?

  • Does anyone think Sean Connery would have been great in Live and Let Die?

Would Bond killing Blofeld's cat in YOLT, OHMSS or DAF have sent Blofeld over the edge? Would he have become emotional, almost hysterical?

  • I only have one unanswered question from a Bond film. What did Blofeld mean when he mentioned the "Delicatesan in stainless steel" in FYEO?
Is this some in joke about Kevin McClory?

It's just a line that Cubby had. I believe he thought it would be a funny thing for Blofeld to say.

Why wasn't Kevin McClory happy with Thunderball? It was very accurate to the Book I think.
  • The Stainless Steel Deli has been elaborated on in previous responses to a best explanation

While we're at it, why does Zorin turn a blind eye to Bond being in the bed of his Girlfriend and even more, seems to encourage it. "There's been intruders in the warehouse - put security on full alert" - "Let's see where Mr Saint John Smythe Is" etc. I know View to a Kill is a ridiculous film as it is, and it's easy to not pay full attention, but I was wondering about this. Does Mayday plan to extract information, because I don't think they learned anything. If I was Zorin, I would of chased Bond out of the room, but he just doesn't seem to care. He hadn't quite realized who 'Smythe' was at that point until the next morning, but the fact remains just allowed an almost complete stranger to spent the night with his girlfriend and she was just as much to blame as he was ? Maybe I'm just tired 8-|

How did bond manage to get in and out of a gorilla costume so quickly in Octopussy

The Living Daylight "it's no place to put down" (lots of mountains) Jeep then lands in flat ground beside the main road to Karachi, very useful

Also where did Carter disappear to when bond was chasing Mollaka in CR?

I think he tripped over and shot himself in the foot.

At the risk of asking daft questions:

In TSWLM, we see Bond's Wetbike unassembled in Captain Carter's quarters. Whereabouts on the sub did Bond actually build the Wetbike? Outside on the deck?
