That was not funny, it was crass. Somehting you'd expect from a second grade action movie.

    You said it.

It would have been horrible in a film like Casino Royale, but I thought that it fit the overall tongue-in-cheek tone of DAD.

The scene when Jinx comes out of the water is definitely meant to be tongue-in-cheek (I think Brosnan is funny in that scene), but Halle ruins it with her "aren't I cool" routine.

Mister Kil is literally the same as Hans. Who cares about his stupid name? He put a decent fight with Bond at least.

It's just shite. Jinx is the worst written and worst performed part in the entire series by a country mile. Every other objectively 'bad' character has at least one redeeming feature, sometimes ironically, but still redeeming. Sheriff Pepper, on paper, shouldn't really work. In reality it divides opinion, but Clifton James is absolutely 'that guy', like him or not, you buy him in the role. He is Pepper. Berry is just utterly woeful. There isn't a single scene she's in that doesn't make me wince. The whole role is so lacking in any kind of depth or genuine humour, even Richards presents an acceptable 'old school' Bond bimbo aura.

    Worse than Mary Goodnight?

Wai Lin may have been something of an action hero towards the end of TND, but at least Yeoh has a down-to-earth charm as well as some genuine martial arts skills.

    THANK YOU!! :)>-
  • I for never quite understood how a PROFESSIONAL ACTRESS AND THE REIGNING OSCAR WINNER FOR BEST ACTRESS could give such a laughably bad performance. Was she trying to out-walken Walken? However I don't think she's the worst in the franchise, because at least her character was good on paper.

I'd say the worst has to be either Goodnight or Sheriff Pepper. It's one thing if you just come off as annoying, but if the character is written to be annoying and the actor conveys a whole different type of annoying, you're the worst in my book.

I remember watching LATD and one friend said that Sheriff Pepper was played by the best actor in the movie.

To be honest I'm not sure which is worst: someone who's meant to be comic relief yet utterly annoying and uncredible as a secret agent, or someone who is meant to be cool yet utterly annoying.

I think Berry scrapes it for worse...just.

    "I'm soo goood". Horrible!!

Sheriff Pepper and Mary Goodnight were out of place characters, but they did what they were meant to be comedic. Jinx was meant to be Bond's equal. Stupid concept to begin with, but she didn't even manage to be a convincing agent, Bond girl or romantic interest.
  • I thought Pepper was an absolute scream in LALD, while Jinx made me want to scream. In Gun, Pepper was tolerable, but added little to the proceedings. Goodnight was the quintessential blonde bimbette, played to the hilt by Ekland. One may not care for the character, but the actress did what she was supposed to do with it.

The fact that they were thinking of giving Jinx her own spin-off film as well is just laughable now.

Talk about falling flat on your face with that idea !

That would have been a bigger flop than Catowman.

Maybe we need to open a 'Worst performance by a leading lady in a Bond film' thread.
There are certainly a few contenders, not just Ms Berry. I'd look more towards Barbara Bach.
Actually, the problem is that many early Bond girls were dubbed, so much of their performances were lost to voice over artists.

The acting of main Bond girls has been far weaker than that of main Bond villains, IMO. Bach, Berry and Richards were el stinko. Chiles and Roberts weren't a whole lot better. St. John and Adams (in OP) are a step up from Chiles and Roberts, but were still no great shakes.

Like Brosnan to do CR, a Jinx spinoff only interested one person.

Bach is fairly stiff but I suppose she does at least play a more believable character.

Anya's a great character. Bach does have some very bad delivery moments but overall she is one of my favourite Bond girls.

For me the worst delivery she has is when Bond's in the lift in Atlantis. When the door opens you hear her say "how interesting" at Niomi, who's showing her the model of the tanker. I don't think Bach could sound anymore robotic.

I'll take it over, 'Yo' Momma'.

Well in Anya's defense, I don't know how peppy or cheerful I'd be if I lost my lover as recent as she did.

Yeah, see, that's why I think she's so wooden, I think it was intentional in the script or whatever that she give a very sort of static performance because of the plot, it's just that Bach is far from a great actress so she couldn't pull it off right.
