Both are great Bond films, but I shall give the award to Skyfall.

I think you're being a tad harsh about the photography in SF. Personally I thought the cinematography was exceptional. I've seen a few films with China and the Scottish highlands featured and SF really makes them look stunning.

It's indeed very, very good, no doubt about it. Yet I still fail to see where it is any better than in QoS, which to me looks absolutely beautifull. Also, as my girlfriend - which isn't much of a Bond Fan and therefore quite neutral in her analysis - mentioned when we left the Cinema, there was no iconic looking scene like Bond and Camille in the Dessert. The fact alone, that she remembers a scene she has seen once in 2008 speaks for itself, I think.

Think both are great, but it has to be Dr No, I still enjoy watching it after all these years, it's the original and started the whole ball rolling. Connery is great in it, but better in FRWL, and it has a great villain, exotic location, fantastic women and is based on a Fleming novel. It's a close call but in the end it has to be Dr No.

Did she nod off when Bond looks over the haunting Scottish highlands, and when Bond and M stared out at the blank hills waiting for Silva, or when Bond stood on the rooftop and looked out over London at the end of the film symbolizing his journey in the film and as a character? Not that she would know an "iconic" Bond scene anyway considering she isn't a fan, and I can tell you that the scene you mentioned in QoS sure isn't one of them. But I guess that's what happens when you order too much popcorn with your soda; your digestion makes you sleepy and you miss the best of what the film has to give. Silly kids...

Dr. No by a country mile. From the moment Connery utters the line "Bond, James Bond" you know this is indeed Fleming's superspy, Agent 007. Plus Jamaica, Ursula Andress, and the incomparable Joseph Wiseman in the title role.

I'm going to have to vote for Dr. No here. SF is definitely a much better made film...obviously but it lacks the charm and sense of Bondesque adventure that Dr.No has. Young's directorial debut if the first film in the series is fantastic given the meagre budget and no expense was spared. Jamaica is beautiful and exotic, treachery around every corner.

The 3 "blind" men taking out Strangways and his secretary, the femme Fatale Miss Taro, the outrageously sexy Honey Rider, Bond's allies in Felix and Quarrel and then there's Bind himself. Now, Connery as Bond was a little rough around the edges when dealing with people, sometimes he'd unintentionally make me laugh the way he'd bark at or speak super fast to people but other than that Connery as Bond defined and established the words, smooth operator.

From the Le Circle casino when we first meet him and he utters the immortal line to Sylvia and the way he glides and simultaneously prowls across the floor to collect his money, this was a different type if cinematic hero. He had style, panache, charisma, a manly brutality all coupled with a sophisticated elegance that was conveyed with a natural conviction. I'm sorry but there has never ever been a Bond actor that comes close to embodying a well rounded portrayal that comes close to Connery.

Lastly, SF takes numerous pages from Dr.No even down to a piece of music that is played whilst the spider is crawling up Bond's arm is played during Bond and M's escape drive from the hearing but the noticeable one is the late introduction of the villain. Both films handle such a risky tactic really well but Dr.No does it much better. Dr. Julius No is one creepy bastard with chivalrous qualities to him which make for an entertaining and interesting villain and essentially the prototype for subsequent villains to come. The Dinner scene is fantastic, the tension can be felt with the verbal jousting between Bond and Dr.No.

Sure, Dr.No feels somewhat pulpy but it never feels out of place within the series and that's because all the Bond elements are there but just arranged less typically and most importantly, Young's direction and stewardship over the production of the film conveys a real sense of wonderment and atmosphere that allows the viewer to absorb and experience a real sense if exotic adventure.

I don't have to read the rest of your post to agree with you, your first sentence says it all. Skyfall is a great film and it's probably the better movie but Dr. No is a better Bond film.

    Dr. No

Not a big fan of Dr No despite it having some great moments of the series and the fact I still really rate Skyfall and it sits at no. 2 in my ranking I think we know where I stand on this one.

    Easily Skyfall.

Both are two of my favorite James Bond films of all time. Choosing between them feels like betrayal but in the end Dr. No edges it ever so slightly (they are probably 2-3 respectively within my rankings).

I didn't want to make a new thread for this but compare The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker :

-Both villains want to start a new life
    -Both have Jaws in
-Both have spies as the Bond girls
    -Both villains are quite famous
-Both Q goes and visits them
-Both of the starts have really good stunts aka. Jumping out of a plane with no parachute and jumping off a mountain.
-Both have a hot country in where they meet Jaws (Egypt and Brazil)
-At the end they lead an attack on the base with other crews (Brits , Americans and Soviets in TSWLM and is it NASA in MR)
-Bond get's caught by the bosses with the Bond girl at the end.
-Jaws has a henchman (Sandor and the cable car guy)
-Both start off with a girl but are actually villains.
-Both of the villains female assistants die a horrible death and are both eaten (eaten by a shark and eaten by dogs)

I can't think of any more right now but this is why I don't really like these films.

Yes, I was just about to give a vote on the two, and then realized I already had, and this latest round has been ongoing for a great many weeks now (voted in favor of Dr No)

I can't remember who picks the releases to vote on (was @Beast at one time or another), but as stated, a new couple of Bond releases to choose from, would be appreciated. This just appears stale now

I thoroughly enjoyed SF, but I think I'll go with DN. Putting aside the fact that it was Bond's cinematic debut- I rate it higher based on things such as the exotic location (and better use of it); the characters are more memorable; a greater feeling of mystery surrounding the villain; we get a deadlier vibe from Bond; his detective work is ace and just more sense of adventure overall.

My apologies on leaving this thread abandoned for such a long time. I've had an extremely busy summer, and the times I have been on MI6, it's been to put my input in for the "Last Bond Movie You Watched" thread; I simply forgot that I was heading this thread up! My regards to @DB5 for giving us that reminder on the previously completed matches as well as the count for this most recent match, in which SkyFall took the win.

    Next match:
