It's going to be Hoult and you're all going to hate it.

    I wouldn't hate that.

Amazon were very careful to choose an actor who was unambiguously a good fit for Jack Reacher. No doubt the backlash over Tom Cruise playing him in the films fed into that. If similar considerations informed their choice of an actor to play Bond, we would be back to the tall, dark, conventionally handsome Connery, Dalton, Brosnan mould. But, as mtm says, given Craig's impact as Bond and how associated with Dan the role became, they may not feel the same need to go for the old Bond archetype at all. Hard to judge this one.

I don't think there are many young Connerys out there. I'm sure if they found one they'd sign him.

I think Amazon will play to the fans a bit, given the director/writer they have chosen. I don't think Amazon has the credit in the bank in terms of trust to cast too far against type. Perhaps we get a more unknown choice, but I don't they'd cast say an American, for example

I forgot to add under “worst-case scenario,” I am afraid of a noticeable shift for the series to start feeling more American and less British. I’m not saying that Bond & company wouldn’t still be located in England, but the tone and feel could easily be lost without those right, subtle sensibilities. As a US citizen (and one currently very ashamed one, mind you, though I did nothing personally to contribute to the current mess), the last thing I want is for Bond to become Americanized.

Exactly. American here as well from Colorado. A blue state. Whatever that means. And America, as we have known it, is in a death spiral because the majority of us couldn't vote for a mixed-race woman as President. Sheesh. Bond's British nature is at the essential core of the books and the films. And worst case is an American Bond, with American locations and feel. Also, just on streaming and not on the big screen (No Time to Die has been the only movie that I haven't seen on the big screen because I had COVID at the time. Did get to see it in glorious 4k on my mom's large TV). I think that we will get it on the big screen, in Real 3D. There definitely will be some monkeying around on the streaming service including side characters, game shows and who knows what else. Even though the Broccolis sold the movie rights, they still have some creative say. The producers, director, and screenwriter are all amazing choices. Bezos could afford a massive budget (All that I have read says it will be larger than No Time to Die), and with that amount of money they could afford the top technical talent. Music will always be one of the most important aspects and on the Film Score Monthly Message Board there was a lot of venom when discussing Hans Zimmer. I like most aspects of his score for No Time to Die other than the over-reliance on OHMSS. But that was sort of the thing, reversing who gets to die (Spoiler: James Bond dies at the end, though he dies for love and not jsut an act of revenge like in OHMSS.).

Can't we leave politics out of it? We already had one. Obama. First mixed race pres. Great. I'm also mixed race yet look like the minority side like Obama.
