    I think that creative direction is more a wish than anything else. The best novels had already been adapted.

    We'd probably have Lazenby doing things like LALD. All action, no substance.

    I agree somewhat, but in the '70s there could have been a more faithful LALD and MR. After that, the well would run dry and they'd have to grapple with the weaknesses of the novels DAF and TMWTGG.
