No rush at all, @GoldenGun, take your time. Looking forward to the round!

    No worries @GoldenGun.
In fact, I’m in awe of your dedication in putting these ranking games together and then entertaining us with the results.

This is why I love this forum so much. Dignity and respect. Few internet forums even know the meaning of these words any more.

It's incredibly refreshing all the time around these parts.

    +1

Actually, I suspect GG wants to outshine the NTTD Premiere and release on the same day. 🙂

    Woohoo! Can't wait!
We'll most likely be discussing some of my favorite villains before the weekend is even here! :))

NTTD should be very close to the premiere when this game ends.

I'm ready for the first reveal. Will it be again a NSNA starter?

Problem with the poster of our first reveal. I'm looking for another one.

Hello everyone, it's time to get going and our first reveal, our bottom choice, is, unsurprisingly, another unofficial entry:

    WOODY ALLEN
as Dr. Noah / Jimmy Bond
    in CASINO ROYALE

    51uH44t1CvL._AC_SY580_.jpg

Nothing shocking here, Dr. Noah's best score was one 18th place. One other member did not include it in the bottom 5, though it came close with a 21st place.

Five penultimate places and fourteen bottom finishes say a lot. Jimmy Bond might be performed by a great actor, as far as the Bond films are concerned, he's not a fan favourite.

In total Dr. Noah received 36 points.

By far the lowest of them all, though still a considerbly better score than the bottom choice in our last game, NSNA's original music.

Five penultimate places? :-? Looks like I'm not the only one using the CR67 candidates to really stick it to their most disliked EON material. :))

I put two below him: Trevelyan and Max Largo.

Whoa! 006 was at the bottom for me too! But I hope to see Max get into the teens...

I’ve heard somewhere that Allen still today gets upset if reminded about CR67.

Woody Allen that low? Noah way.

I guess this is nothing if not perfectly reasonable. I like what Woody does with the part, but it is not Bond material.

Someone should send his PR reps a note that he finished last in a Bond villain ranking game.

….now hold on for a minute!!!

Jimmy Bond’s “plot” actually is kind of cool: the creation of a world in which all women are beautiful and all men over 4 foot 6-inches are killed – leaving him as the world’s most desirable man.

And since we already have the lovely Daliah Lavi (see above), I can see where this plot makes perfect sense!

The next reveal is our least liked EON main villain.

In a rather unsurprising turn, this appears to be:

    TOBY STEPHENS
    as Gustav Graves
    in DIE ANOTHER DAY

    graves5.jpg

The best ranking for DAD's baddie was one 15th place. Graves turned up in four more top 20's, but his fate was ultimately sealed with seventeen bottom 5's, two of those were last places and seven were second to last.

In total Gustav Graves acquired 56 points.
  • Not a great surprise, as you say. I have more recently gained some appreciation for what Stephens did with the role and for the concept of the character himself, but Graves and Stephens' hammily arrogant portrayal of him really grated for some time. I enjoyed Stephens much better as the voice of Bond in the wonderful radio plays of Fleming's books.
  • He wasn’t my last place, but pretty close to it! What ultimately saved him from last place is the smarmy energy with which he throws himself into the role. But he’s still saddled with some really awful material and I hate the stuff with his electrified robo suit that looks like it came out of a direct to dvd transformers knockoff or something.

    2 for 2 for me!
Enjoy Woodys role for CR, but the fact its not a proper Bond movie and a spoof sealed his fate!
Easier to put Graves in next position, godawful, all the sneering in the world cant save him,"Meet reality, Gustav!"

Graves came in at 22nd for me but looking at my list in hindsight, I could've placed him in 23rd or 24th and been even happier with it. He's hammy, ridiculous, gets in on the action and has a lot of cheesy quips, but he's certainly not the worst of the series for me.

I had him at 15th. His deliciously smarmy performance suits the film to a T. I can't not have fun while watching Toby Stephens show just how punchable he can make his villain.

I had Dr. Noah last. Woody is very funny but it's a spoof and difficult to rank with the others.

Gustav Graves finished 25th for me so I wasn't far off the mark. I think he did the best he could with the material he was given. Plus, he was one of the best physical matches for Bond, much more than some of the other main baddies on the list. However, he overplays it at times and it becomes annoying, much like the film itself.

Agreed, although I put him lower than that, at 18. Not great, but certainly fun enough.
  • I had Graves at 25, but looking back on it, his performance really suits he film as @ProfJoeButcher said so I could have put him a bit higher.
  • Possibly a controversial placement but I had Graves at #25 and Blofeld (SP) at #26..
bad performance vs disappointed in Waltz's take on the character.

I would have expected the SP haters to get Blofeld kicked out by now. ;-)

But yeah, Gustav isn't exactly my favourite villain either. It doesn't help that technically, he's another guy with an extreme makeover. Toby is not a bad actor, but he couldn't possibly have elevated the part to something better than what P&W had dribbled on paper.

Even more controversial: I had Blofeld (SP) even lower than that. That film has almost nothing on offer for me, the performances especially.
  • Blofeld (SP) has done quite well, really!
