In about 2hrs I will be sitting down to watch it. Guy I know who works at the cinema says the IMAX showing I am going to is sold out, I too like it a little quieter, but I do love the buzz of a crowd at a first showing! I feel like I am going for an interview, nervous, and managed to avoid spoilers bar the trailers!
    Really looking forward to this!
  • How is the action in general? Are there any really standout setpieces? I’ve heard the gamut of opinions on the action from pretty good, to amazing, to Brosnan era generic gunfire.

Also, is the henchman put to good use?

I think as an overall film for the action sequences, this is unparalleled by any other entry in the series. I'm pretty sure this contains my new favourite individual set piece as well, but that's a tougher call.

If there's any way to block the YouTube account "Kelly Goes West" without viewing absolutely anything on their channel, everyone here should do that before they browse YouTube next. There is what could be a massive NTTD spoiler in the title and thumbnail of a recent video from that channel.

If it's not possible, DO NOT search for this channel on YouTube, just be very careful when browsing YouTube, or maybe stay away altogether.

Wow, that’s exciting. I was hoping that would be the case based on the trailers.

Are there any standout action moments for you, large or small, that weren't necessarily hinted at or revealed in the trailers and clips? Feel free to PM it if you'd like, easy to get mixed up on which thread is which and I'd like to avoid even spoiler tagging any revelations in this thread.

Am I allowed to do a Daniel Craig movie ranking?

    1st Casino Royale
    2nd No Time to Die
    3rd Quantum of Solace
    4th first half of Spectre
    5th Skyfall

    99th Last half of Spectre

Just to calibrate I think Quantum of Solace is very underrated and Skyfall very overrated and dreary.

The entire PTS is pretty spectacular, although a lot of the big moments from it were in those first two trailers we got ages ago (I still haven't seen the two "new" trailers as I made a point of ignoring them until after seeing the film).
There is a sequence in a forest about two thirds in that has a brief moment in the second trailer but of course has much more going on in the film that is spectacular but also very different, almost like a horror film in some ways.
The set piece that I'm thinking of as being a new best for the series isn't in the trailers save for the very beginning of it, though you wouldn't tell from the way the shot is used in the trailer as it's cut into the trailer as a sort of independent moment, if that makes sense.
Overall, the gunplay in this film is marvelous. It's the closest thing this series has had to the kind of gunplay we see in the Wick films, without just copying the way those sequences are shot and edited, and still only going about two-thirds of the way into that territory. Let me put it another way, NTTD proves that Bond is a ruthlessly efficient killing machine without veering into him being a "one shot one kill every time" death-breathing master like Wick is.

I have my tickets for next Thursday at 4 PM so I'm really hoping it's not too packed. As long as I have a couple seats empty on either side of me, I'll be happy.

Yeah I'm next week too (just a social calendar thing) and we're going early evening- but mostly because the film is so long and it's hard to get home from London late night! :D

Ah blimey, thank you; but I guess that sort of thing is going to be really hard to miss. YouTube knows I like James Bond and I'm likely to go on YouTube in the next week. What a bastard.

The "one take" stairwell scene near the end.

And yes, the stuff in the forest was very good.

Thanks a ton for those write-ups, @StirredNotShaken and @Chevron, but might want to spoiler tag them just in case anyone reading this non-spoiler thread has no clue what to expect. Those are the sorts of things that get my optimism climbing and my excitement supercharged once again. Can't wait to see it for myself. This next week is really going to drag.
  • To understand as many of the easter eggs as possible, which prior films do you recommend watching? I've seen every Bond film at least once, but some not for many years.

I feel like to name specific films would be too spoiler-y, but honestly there were callouts, some loud and some incredibly nuanced, to a wide range of Bond films. I'd say watch a random handful and at least half of them are likely to see some sort of reference here.
  • I'll make sure I get OHMSS in as I've not seen it for ages and I sense there will be some callbacks!

    OHMSS
    The Living Daylights
    Casino Royale
    Quantum of Solace maybe
    Skyfall maybe
    Spectre

I'm very intrigued by your suggestion to watch TLD again! All the Craig stuff I'm very familiar with.

So it’s on par with CR & SF & SP?
It's slightly above Skyfall for me (I gave both 9.5/10 but NTTD ranks two spots higher in my Bond list), a few steps behind CR (which isn't exactly fair as CR is my only 10/10 for the series and one of my top 25 films), and miles above SPECTRE.

I guess there's a great big grey car in it which shares something of a link with TLD :)
  • Maybe Brad Whitaker makes a surprise reappearance.

So I just got back from my screening of No Time to Die. I thoroughly enjoyed it and had a really good time. I have to say, despite some obvious modern aspects and even with some aspects that you wouldn’t expect from a James Bond film at all (in a good way), the film really feels like a classic, old-school James Bond adventure, with all the great trimmings of Craig’s era. From the very beginning, I was enthralled and onboard, and it was really quite the ride. A very exciting and emotional ending to my favourite James Bond actor, with all the gravitas and spectacle you would want.

I should also add, while my rating now goes as follows (so far), this should in no way reflect badly on the film as it is really good and deserves to sit right beside my two personal favourites of the Craig-era.

    1) Skyfall
    2) Casino Royale
    3) No TIme To Die
    4) Quantum Of Solace
    5) Spectre

Great job on the mods for keeping this thread as non-spoilery as possible for any little thing, I really enjoy this. I get to find out people's opinions without any details about the movie! (this might read as sarcasm, but it's not i am serious, i hope the thread stays with as many spoiler tags as possible)

Btw, for future comments by people that saw the movie, can you also compare it on a list with the other Craigs? (or maybe general Bond movies), cause I like to see the taste of the person so I can see if a person that likes ___ would also like or dislike ___, just as a reference

Seems to be falling into #2 or #3 on most people’s Craig rankings. Very exciting. A handful of quite positive critical reviews dropped today also.

I should also like to add just quickly, EON please bring back Cary Fukunaga. I don't know if he'd want to, but if they can get him, they should. To just imagine what he could do a with a clean slate...

I recall reading an interview where he said that he’d like to do another one.

If you go to the series ranking (no details) thread, my updated ranking with NTTD at #2 overall is there, but you can see from, I'd say my top 10 and bottom 5, what I do and don't want respectively from a Bond film. Anything in between are Bond films that feel are a mixed bag in that respect.

an actor from that movie appears in a painting.

How is the action in general? Are there any really standout setpieces?
Way, way too short. Take the length of the Madagascar chase scene in CR. That's about the same time for the Matera bike/car chase and Norway car chase in total.
Actually I found the setpiece with the sinking ship to be an unexpected highlight. The Zimmer score there is fantastic ("Final Ascent")
The two standouts though are the donut-scene in Matera and the flying landrovers in Norway. Both around 10 seconds.
The PTS of SF had more action extravaganca than NTTD in total
But I am going to watch it again tomorrow, maybe my perspective will change. For now:
    1: CR
    2: NTTD
    3: QoS
    4: SP
    5: SF
  • My ranking:

    CR
    QOS
    SF/SP (tie)
    NTTD

I'm guessing I'm the rare fan who ranks them in release order. I do the same with the Brosnan era.

The real question is....after the way SP was received....why didn't they try a clean slate approach with this one?

edit: Meaning a story that is not related to SP at all, not a new Bond actor
