For me it's always worked the same as when posting an image... but I'm not 100% sure, I'll try it now and see

    giphy.gif?cid=ecf05e47nylzqwxju5z4ezw8sy3bas8evjabhocrn23f4ne6&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g

If you're trying to use Giphy, you have to actually click into the gif itself to get the correct "copy image address".

    really-daniel-craig.gif

Yes, Daniel. And if you're trying to get them off a browser, it could be the same story, you have to click through to the actual gif (rather than trying to copy it from the google page or whatever).

    Hope that helps!

Okay, for real now. You have to place the URL of the gif between "img" tags.

In other words, the following (without the extra spaces):

    [ img ] http://address-to-your-gif.gif [ /img ]

Click on the image symbol, and just copy and paste the URL in the square that pops up.

Strange. The image function usually does it for me, but only if the link ends with .gif

Ok I just tried posting a gif there of Djimon Hounsou saying “ not yet “ there using the method you demonstrated but it only posts the image text.I put then the link and then but it doesn’t work.Bear in mind I’m using an iPad.Dies that make a difference?

The problem is that that's not the address to the gif file itself. By right clicking the image on the Tenor site and clicking on "copy URL to clipboard" (or whatever this action is called in English on your browser) I got the URL of the actual gif file.

    https://c.tenor.com/2ADGuw1Fwn8AAAAd/but-not-yet-djimon-hounsou.gif

    but-not-yet-djimon-hounsou.gif

Note how it ends with (dot) gif

Ok clearly I have posted the proper URL of the image there but it’s just displaying the code, now how do I actually post the image? Do I just post it again and put and at the front and back if it?

    That's correct.

Also, pasting the URL of the gif in the "image URL" textbox (accesible from the toolbar) should achieve the same result.

You can t. Not to this site. You have to go via a third party picture-share service.

    Thanks for the reply.

I'd been trying but couldn't figure it out.

The slash in the closing tag is the wrong way, should be [/img].
The image function should include these tags; you have the broken image icons, are you using the image function *and* adding your own closing tag?

    1. Go to giphy.com.
    2. Search " James Bond".
    3. Left-click on a gif you like. This will open a page with just that gif.
    4. Right-click on the gif, and left-click "Copy Image Address".
    5. Come back to base, here in this thread.
    6. Click the little image icon (looks like a wee landscape) above the box where you type a new message.
    7. Right-click and paste in the dialogue box that pops up. The forum should automatically put your link in the text box with the appropriate tags.
    8. Preview, or Post Comment et voila.

I think the GIF URL you're using doesn't work.

At least you know that if you get fooled once you can't get fooled again.

For what it's worth (not much, I know), I normally insert the image link into a Microsoft Word document so that I can verify their format prior to posting here. Sometimes the link is so long (>200 characters) that I know there is a good chance that I can't use it.
