Coat of Arms: Russian Federation. Notice two major state symbols that go back to the 15th Century and the days of Ivan III plus the Roman/Byzantine Empire:
    1. Gules, two-headed Imperial Eagle. Peter the Great commented: "A ruler that has but an army has one hand, but he who has a navy has both." Applies to heads, as well, I guess. Its elements:
    - twice-crowned
    - dexter claw grasping imperial sceptre
    - sinister claw grasping an imperial orb
    - the ribbon of the Order of St. Andrew, the First-Called
    2. The inlay, in which St. George slays the dragon. No longer recognized up front by the (secular) government, but some elements like the Bank of Russia still confirm it as "Saint George the Victorious on horseback killing a serpent with a spear".

Smirnoff was Bond's preferred vodka during Brosnan's tenure; they're big into their double eagle logo now, though I think it was pretty subtle in the '90s, if it was there at all.

Nonsense. Vodka is a very pure spirit, and thus will not give you a hangover. Allegedly.

Supercars.net Blog: c1936 Hispano-Suiza Type 68 J12 Cabriolet, #14018. Sold at David Gooding’s 2010 Scottsdale Auction for $1,400,000 USD. According to the Hispano-Suiza Society, chassis number 14018 was originally fitted with this wonderful, open body by Saoutchik and was delivered to its first owner on December 30, 1936. Like much of the earliest history of this car, the first owner eludes any firm information, but it is believed that a Czech film star was the original caretaker of this J12. Owned by Michel Seydoux of Sclumberger oil fortune who had Lecoq restore the body and interior. Used in the 1979 James Bond film Moonraker. Displayed at the 1988 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

With a naval flourish, closing out the epic Eagle entries I hope.

HMS Eagle, Audacious-class aircraft carrier, Royal Navy 1946–1972.
One of the two largest Royal Navy aircraft carriers. The 15th HMS Eagle in the fleet.

    HMS Eagle crest.
    R05-HMS-Eagle-crest01.jpg2c727a00e65448c418b557309c16481b--banners.jpg

    USS Eagle (AM-132), was renamed Captor (PYc-40) as a Q-ship, 1942.
Q-ships, aka Q-boats, also decoy or special service or mystery ships, acted as covertly armed merchant vessels, intended to bait German subs into surface attacks. Once the U-boats rose and committed, the Q-boats sought to sink them. Used in WWI by the British and Germans; in WWII by the British and the US.
Q refers to the original home port of Queenstown, Ireland.
    12144001.jpg

    USS Eagle 56 (PE-56).
US Navy patrol boat from WWI, carried forward to WWII in service towing targets for bomber training. Sunk 23 April 1945 off the Atlantic coast of Maine, blamed on a boiler explosion. Many years later in 2001, German records confirmed what servicemen and family members believed all along: a U-boat (specifically, U-853) was to blame. These events are chronicled in the book Due to Enemy Action, Stephen Puleo.
(I had an uncle that went down with the ship. Have visited a small memorial plate by the lighthouse at Fort Williams, Portland, Maine a couple times. Last, June 2017.)

Well that is, imo, a 19th century perception. We know crows learn to use tools and can figure out how to get to food by observing how it's put in a box. Also, parrots can learn not only language, but the meaning of words. Birds on the whole are good singers too.

    Osprey - ˈäsprā – noun
    1. a fish-eating raptor with a black and white appearance
Old French (ospres). Latin (ossifraga, from os or bone, frangere meaning to break, likely related to habits of the Lammergeier to drop bones from height seeking their marrow).

Osprey (Pandion haliaetus): daytime specialists in fishing known as Fish eagle, Sea hawk, River hawk, Fish hawk. Use special vision to see under the water's surface in flight, a short hovering pause, then a diving action to grab prey with talons. Dark brown and light grey coloring. Found worldwide in many habitats understandably near water. A single species ranges worldwide, excepting Antarctica.

You Only Live Twice, Ian Fleming, 1964.
    Chapter 13 – Kissy Suzuki

They motored down the main street to where the police launch was waiting at the jetty and set off at a good twenty knots across the beautiful bay and round the headland into the Sea of Genkai. Tiger produced sandwiches and a flask of sake for each of them, and they ate their luncheon as the jagged green coast -with its sandy beaches passed slowly by to port. Tiger pointed out a distant dot on the horizon. 'Kuro Island,' he said. 'Cheer up, Bondo-san. You seem preoccupied. Think of all those beautiful naked women you will soon be swimming with! And this Japanese Greta Garbo with whom you will be passing the nights!'
'And the sharks who will already be gathering at the news of my swim to the castle!'
'If they do not eat the Amas, why should they eat a bit of tough Englishman? Look at the two fish eagles circling. That is an excellent augury. One alone would have been less propitious. Four would have been disastrous, for with us four is the same as your thirteen - the worst number of all. But, Bondo-san, does it not amuse you to think of that foolish dragon dozing all unsuspecting in his castle while St George comes silently riding towards his lair across the waves? It would make the subject for a most entertaining Japanese print.'
