Thunderball. I think it's a film that, without being very widly recognized like Goldfinger or Casino Royale as classics, is probably one of the most classic Bond films their are. In it, you have Bond saving the world from SPECTOR, a great villin in Largo, and great Bond girls in Claudine Auger, and Luciana Paluzzi, (perhaps my personal favorit Bond girl of all time). Their's so many great things in Thunderball from the actors, to the locations, but what is perhaps most important of all is that X-factor, that sparcle that makes a good movie amazing. It's a great movie, full stop, and among the Bond movies, it's one of the best...

I'll second that. TB is my favorite Bond film for both the reasons you mentioned and the fact it's the only Bond film to combine Terence Young's directorial style from the first 2 films with the big budget, Panavision epic feel we would later find in the Lewis Gilbert and Peter Hunt films.

Damn right to all of that^

    I agree as well.

I thought it was appropriate lol. so can you recommend a bond film to me?

1990 on: First of all, Goldeneye! Great Bond movie in every way.
Secondly, License to Kill (was that 1990?) (I love The Living Daylights but that was maybe 1989) Dalton makes the film work, in spite of some flaws.
Third: Tomorrow Never Dies (Pierce is quite book, great PTS, and Yeogh kicks butt)

Your dates are a bit off:

    The Living Daylights - 1987
    License to Kill - 1989

But I think I see where you're going here. All the films you mention have a more modern look and have lots of action.

After the Skyfall teaser trailer my friend got very excited about Skyfall and everything Bond. He has only seen CR and QOS to this date but now he has agreed to let me choose 7-8 bond movies to watch before Skyfall is out in theaters. So do you have any good suggestion for which movies to choose? We have agreed that CR and QOS is safe as 2 of the movies but the other 6 is still to be found.

I thought about showing him the most essential Bond movies so when I considered the options I ended up with something like this:

    - Dr. No (First movie)
    - Goldfinger/Thunderball (Connery at his best, epic movies)
    - OHMSS (Lazenby)
    - TSWLM (Moore)
    - The Living Daylights (Dalton)
    - GoldenEye (Brosnan)
    - Casino Royale (as I said, both Craig's movies are already chosen)
    - Quantum Of Solace

What do you think about this? One problem I think is that this is some of the absolute best of the series and if my friend should want to watch the other 14 they might be at a little lower level... Wow, long post... :D

That provides a good variety of films from different actor's eras and from different decades. The only one I'd scratch off the list would be QOS and replace it with FRWL.

Good pick! Only problem is, my collection is slightly disheveled - haven't really gotten everything moved back properly from college - so do you have a second recommendation if I can't find it? It's honestly the only one I brought to college one time, and it's mixed in with all of my things, still.

Uhm, too bad. If not, go with TWINE or TMWTGG. But preferably TWINE :D

Ahh, very good choice - I can do that. I see you're a Brosnan film, so you're very good in my book! TWINE it is on blu-ray.

Oh yes, Brosnan is the best actor without a doubt. TND is one of my all time favorites!

TWINE is a guilty pleasure though.

@MrBond, awesome! Brosnan is my favorite Bond, pre-Bond, and post-Bond actor, with GE my favorite in the series - unbeatable, for me.

You sir have a great taste! He is really so smooth and sophisticated but still has the physical demands. He is perfect!

As do you! That he does: he's incredibly smooth and suave, even in 'The Matador,' 'The Tailor of Panama,' and 'The Thomas Crown Affair,' yet he's physical and able. It's what I love.

In ' The Thomas Crown Affair ' he is indeed really cool and suave.

One detail that you just gotta love is his style when he walks in public places, with his left hand his pocket and walks smooth!

That left hand in his pocket is so sly. I do it all the time, just to copy him: simple, yet he pulls it off and makes it look incredibly cool. That, or when he leans up against bars or back in chairs - so smooth.

You do that too? I thought i was alone doing that.
And the way he is talking, i used to imitate that too ;)

I watched TND yesterday morning actually, haha. Still a top five favorite without a doubt! So action-packed and entertaining, with pretty much everything you could want out of a Bond movie involved! It got me ready for the day in no time!

The Hamburg part is the best. Easily Brosnans best performance. He is just as smooth and cool as he should be!

Bond just confronted Renard for the first time. I love this scene.

YES!!! I could eat that scene for breakfast it is so good! "I couldn't kill you, you were working for me. Saved your life at the banker's office." Man, a classic if there ever was one!

"A man tires of being executed."

Great film; glad this was the second one you selected, I haven't seen it in quite some time.

Christmas Jones: "Yeah, but he's no atomic scientist."

Quite ironic, as how they could have picked so many other people that I would find more acceptable to play an atomic scientist than Denise Richards.
