I agree that the main problem with basically all modern Bond video games is their total focus on the aspect of James Bond that is shooting and killing people. It's a large part of the character, but there's so much more to it than that. I'm very interested in exploring different ways to interact in the world of James Bond that encompasses more than just the shooting.

I'd love to see IO Interactive or Eidos Montreal work on a Bond game. They have experience in creating stealth action games that allow for player freedom in both gameplay and narrative.

I understand Splinter Cell started it's life as a Bond game, that dropped the licence at some point in it's development. Might be a fun game to play to get that Bond stealth feel.

I've already completed every Splinter Cell game several times over... easily one of my favourite video game franchises of all time. Wish we would get a new one.

    On another note...

Which Bond game do you think best represents the film franchise as a whole?

This is going to sound so dumb but my mind instantly goes back to the gameboy game my profile picture comes from. Travelling, talking to people, using a variety of methods and tools to solve puzzles, requiring to know the basics of Baccarat ;) I know it sounds silly, but narrowing your perspective on the Bond world down to the barrel of a gun misses out on so much of what makes the world appealing. I don't think it's the best James Bond game, but I think it get a lot right, where other more popular Bond games miss the mark.

I'm also working on my own interactive Bond experience that I hope will capture the world of Bond better than any of the games.

Not dumb at all. I own a loose copy of that game but have yet to purchase a Gameboy to play it.

Having seen a few YT videos on it I can see why you would choose it. It's unique among the rest of the Bond gaming library.

Out of the ones I played I'd say TWINE on the PS1. It strikes a balance that most other Bond games don't, 1/3 of the game has no combat, it places emphasis on stealth and gadgets. One level had you mostly avoiding cameras, the next at a casino playing cards, another even has the player stealing I.D to gain entrance and then finding pass cards to make their way down to Renard before a confrontation. It's only about 4 hours long so it never feels like it drags either.

Yes Splinter Cell was going to be ptiched as a James Bond game. The game was sci-fi shooter called The Drift. They change the works around and made it a MGS 2 killer instead. Using Thief and MGS elements to create what we know as Splinter Cell today. I'm a big Splinter Cell fan and I always thought of Sam Fisher as American James Bond.

I’m surprised more of the games don’t have a cards playing element, seems like it would be a simple enough addition. I suppose it would mess with the pacing of a FPS, but I go back to my original point that a strict FPS doesn’t really capture Bond. Might have to check out TWINE but I gave my PS1 away lol

I'm shocked as well you don't see a lot casino mission in other Bond games it makes sense for a Bond game. I think a lot of FPS Bond games comes from is Goldeneye since that game pretty much changed console FPS genre.

A PS2 or PS3 would suffice, they both play PS1 games.

But I agree, this focus on Bond video games playing more like Goldeneye 64 or Call Of Duty is ultimately what led to poor sales. It's a shame that EON have no interest in the marketplace anymore. I'm beginning to think we will never see another 007 game.

    Two points

    1. I wish Calvin Dyson will review the James Bond game for gameboy (I would also like his reviews to include The Duel but of o had to choose one)

    2. I too have played a ton of splinter cell games ... I want both Bond and Fisher back

Nick and others pm me as I want to continue this bond conversation

Finished the Last of Us Part 2 today. The graphics and the gameplay are all superb, however the story is something to be desired. There were parts of the story I loved, other parts I have mixed feelings on. The game is no where near as bad as what some people are saying, and seem to judge moments without any context and overlooking some of the beautiful moments this game has to offer. It is a game which I think is worth playing at least once, however I would say at this point in time I much prefer the first game. It will be interesting to see how my opinions change with time.

The Last of Us Part 2

I am a bit divided on this game. It looks amazing, is well acted, and the moment-to-moment gameplay is really fun (I prefer the exploration elements but the stealth combat is good fun too). Not too fond of the story, not because of what happens, but the pacing to me seems off and the game is easily 10 hours too long. I thought we were getting to the end and then it continued on for another 5 hours. It is a game I am glad I have played and finished, but am not sure I would revisit it.

    Far Cry 3 Classic Edition

Bought this for £2.49 from the PlayStation Store. Graphics have aged since the game came out but the core gameplay, shooting and exploration is really good fun. A nice palette cleanser from TLOU Part 2, due to its tropical island setting.

    Ring Fit Adventure
I have been playing this during lockdown and it a fun way of having a core workout, and a fun game too, with a light story and RPG elements. The mini games are fun too.

I've got three going. Paper Mario: The Origami King on Switch, Dragon Quest VII on 3DS (yes, I still play 3DS),and Cult Manager Tycoon on Android.

Paper Mario is hilarious and a series best as far as I'm concerned. Not sure how many Nintendo nerds are around here, but it's a pretty perfect example of the delightful childlike escapism they do so well.

Dragon Quest Vii is just me trying to get through the whole series this year. It's my favorite one, but you do feel that 70 hours.

Cult Manager Tycoon is also pretty hilarious, but not in a Paper Mario way. It's a satirical indie game about running a cult.

I'm also tempted to start Metroid Prime Trilogy again in my Wii U, but I keep hoping an HD version will be announced....

The Gene Machine, a wonderful British graphic adventure game from 1996 that takes its inspiration from Jules Verne. The dialogue between Piers Featherstonehaugh (pronounced Fanshaw) and his servant Mossop is absolutely top notch, often laugh-out-loud funny.

    ---

Rayman Redemption, a splendid fan-made "remaster" of the original Rayman game, that adds many things (including a new world) and fixes or improves several aspects of the original game.

Something else I have been planning for a while. Playing the series (at least the entires availble on current gen consoles), from the beginning, in order of where the events take place. I just need to pick up the games 4 to 6. I remember playing this on the Gamecube in the way back when, though I recall very little of the story.

Opinion is stronly divided on that one. Myself, I really liked Blacklist. The stealth mechanics were just perfect. It's kind of... the OHMSS of the Splinter Cell series. Conviction is the only one I haven't played. Didn't have a 360 at the time. Now it's available as bc on the XBox One, I should grab a copy to try it for myself.

God dammit Ubisoft, stop arseing about and give up a new Splinter Cell. Enough with the cameos already.

I only play the original mobile version of the game...

I have been playing Arkham origins I am the knight mode (doing most of the side quests rather then try the main quest for now because I am just happy to have something to do in the game I fear the boss battles to be honest.

    Fallout 4- Far Harbor DLC

Pretty fun. I should have gotten this years ago. Since I finished most of the original game, it's fun to expand on it and deal with new quests, characters and enemies.
