I would say Turkey except for Istanbul...

Pakistan, since I finally want to see Bond having dinner in that restaurant in Karachi...

A yea here where there’s snow and mountains. Lots of them.

Montenegro is also fantastic. Kotor is a beautiful town. And the bay around it is lovely

Mission Impossible probably did it too recently, but the Karakoram range is so beautiful, I could see a Bond film set their working. Don't need the exact story, but take inspiration from the Graphic Novel "High Crimes" which centers around the recovery of a body of a super-spy/assassin who took some very secret secrets with him when scaling Everest (which I know is not in the Karakoram, you could do the Himalayas, too) and then died close to the peak, leading to a race up the mountain between good and bad guys. I could see that as a fantastic final act, Bond with a few helpers against a group of villains and henchmen trying to reach a macguffin somewhere in or close to the death zone fighting against each other but also the elements.

I actually have no idea if Pakistan would work for the rest of the elements we want in a Bond film, but they could probably make something work. Even if there isn't a high rolling Casino in Islamabad (no idea), you could always have a fictional event/resort/hotel/whatever set-up by the bad guy for a couple of dinner jacket scenes.

Alternatively, I think he Gulf states and the ostentatious luxury you see there could be a fun background to set the more muted and classically high society Bond against. Although Dubai has also semi-recently been the location of an M:I film...

That sounds brilliant! I have been dreaming of a Bond film set in the Himalayas, and you seem to have found a story that suits it.

That would be cool, certainly reminiscent of FYEO. I can see Moore hucking the body off the top of the mountain; "detente comrade!"

Paris always looks good on film (imo), Greece hasn't been used in forty years.
A return to the US might be fun, or visiting unused locales, Canada, Singapore / Malaysia and of course, Australia. But the west coast over the east. ;) But either is fine.

    To Russia with Bond!

How has Bond not been to Moscow yet?

    Or has he?

Seriously though, we've seen it a little on film, but IIRC Bond hasn't visited yet.

Wanted: some sneaky Bond night time scenes with snow and the spires lit up, heaps of espionage and detective work, strong military presence. Snow chase with Bond commandeering a snowcat.

Yes and “Arkhangelsk”, but never Moscow. There’s more to Russia than just the one city. ;)

Norway is just a frozen lake and the Atlantic Road. And a forest.

Bond should come Down Under, where there's just a big rock and a pub with a jalopy on its roof.

It would be very interesting to see 007 in Canada for the main location, where Harry Saltzman was from. The climax of the movie concludes in the Niagra Falls.

One country from each continent should be visited in BOND 26:

    * China: Visited only once in "Skyfall", it's time to see a chase down at The Great Wall of China.
    * Greci:. Now visiting Acropolis of Athens .
    * Egypt: It wouldn't hurt to return to The Great Pyramid of Giza. .
    * Australia. Interesting something at The Sydney Opera House. .
    * Canada. The climax of the movie should be at Niagara Falls. .

    ;)

Wherever they go for Bond 26, I hope they make more out of the location. I was disappointed with the way Norway and the Atlantic Road was used during NTTD, beautiful location but it could have been anywhere.
The way they captured Jamaica was fantastic

I disagree about the Atlantic Road. It was only in the film for a short time, but the passing of the Land Rovers, the silence as they wait, and then seeing them return over the hill was a great bit of tension, and the road played as great a role in it as it could.

I suppose it could have "been anywhere" that had a hill, but we got all this as well as the beauty of the road and location itself. What more did you want?

I would have taken a bit more time in Norway. Or at least more distinct pieces set there. For most of the action, it was pretty non-descript. The Swann/White-family house really could have been anywhere a lake can freeze over and due to the music and the spoken parts the PTS part feels more French then Norwegian anyway. Same goes for the forest. To me I don't really associate it with Norway even though that's where it is set (no idea where they shot it).

This is the worst kind of conjecture, but when you think of a Bond film you can usually immediatly name the main locations. I don't think Norway would come up if you asked people about the locations of NTTD, even though a large part of the action takes place there.

Was hoping to see a Norwegian village in passing, on Bond's way to the Swann cabin.
  • A few thoughts on this:

-America has never looked good in a Bond film. Don't go back.
-Italy is played out - give it a break.
-Canada could be interesting but the scale of the country is a problem. It takes days to drive between landmarks there, even in an Aston.

-My vote is somewhere in sub-Saharan Africa. I think South Africa or Kenya could both work: big variety of landscapes, big cities, some amount of wealth if you want a credible casino/restaurant/hotel scene. Or you could go full-pelt adventure and have it somewhere while like the DRC.

-Finally, whichever places they use, I hope that we can really get a feel for the locations again. Good establishing shots, a bit of local colour, and a bit of lingering (even just briefly) on local faces, flora, fauna, architecture, food, whatever. Especially in a COVID world where we can't travel like we used to, I'd love to see Bond include those exciting travelogue elements.

If never you've read Trevanian's The Eiger Sanction, or seen the film, I suggest both. It's been done, and very well. While you're at it, you may as well read the other Trevanian Sanction books, too.

As for those of you recommending Canada, you seem in need of a reminder: There is a LAW against taking a Bond film to Canada. Not one you'll find in any Codes, mind you, but an unwritten one and it has served VERY effectively all these years.

But they can write Bond novels in Canada without restriction, @Since62. Some compensation, there.

And it was because of that law that EON fired Boyle. He was going to do the unthinkable and film Bond 25 in Canada!

What ?!!? Such BLASPHEMY ! Oh - he HAD to go ! Do what you will with the characters, but don't you DARE set the film in - Oh ! - Canada !...besides, the torture scenes would have been unbearable, even for the audience ! They'd have treated Bond with excessive politeness to the point where he'd had just begged to tell everything and please let him leave..."Talk ?!? No, Mr. Bond ! I hope you enjoy your tea and toast and then let's us go for a nice walk, shall we ?"
